Bruiser Chong Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Speaking of the Tigers, they DFA Dmitri Young.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Anibal Sanchez has one of those things going through seven, but ESPN is naturally all over it, so, yeah.
naiwf Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 The Tigers losing out would be FAR from the biggest choke of all time. It shouldn't even register really. How so? They were 40 over .500 on August 7th, and there's a WC to fall back on.
treble Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I'm listening to it on XM now, that's usually enough to jinx it. Well, Sanchez made it through the first batter, better than Ortiz did on Sunday.
naiwf Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 It's on ESPN right now. I say Gonzalez gets a blooper to break this one up like he did to win that WS for the D-Backs. Or not.
naiwf Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Uh, that guy looked safe on that last play.
devo Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Congratulations, Anibal. If this doesn't signify what an amazing season the Marlins have had, I don't know what would.
vivalaultra Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Congrats, rook. First rookie since Bud Smith in 2001. Anybody remember Bud Smith?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Congrats, rook. First rookie since Bud Smith in 2001. Anybody remember Bud Smith? Bud Smith's no hitter was one of the five most nerve-wracking games I've ever watched. I can't helped but wonder if the stress of that game contributed to his arm problems.
Cheech Tremendous Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Fuck. So I know that it's the National League, and I know he plays in a cavernous football stadium, but this one still hurts give how abysmal Josh Beckette has been. But congrats to the kid.
Mik Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Yay. Fire up the national media train again.
Guest NYankees Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Congrats, rook. First rookie since Bud Smith in 2001. Anybody remember Bud Smith? Bud Smith's no hitter was one of the five most nerve-wracking games I've ever watched. I can't helped but wonder if the stress of that game contributed to his arm problems. Was Bud Smith a Cardinal? Congrats to Sanchez on the No Hitter.
vivalaultra Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 So, for the Marlins no-hitters, we've got who? ...Kevin Brown, Anibal Sanchez, AJ Burnett...and...fuck...somebody else, right? I remember Burnett's...that was a fucked up game. 9 walks and still got a no-no. Yeah, Bud Smith was a Cardinal. Only played 2001 and 2002. He had arm problems.
vivalaultra Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Oh yeah...I forgot that Al Leiter was a good pitcher at one point.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Congrats to Sanchez. I'd be lying if I said the celebration gave me more chills than the last two World Series clinchers.
the max Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Meanwhile, Beckett gave up four homers without even pitching.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I didn't realize Sanchez was part of that Beckett trade. Ouch.
mike546 Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Meanwhile, in Trenton, Phillip Hughes gos 6 innings, giving up 1 run and strikeing out 13.
vivalaultra Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 So, in terms of evaluating after the fact, it looks like Florida did better than alot of people thought in the Beckett/Lowell trade. In other gameday news, the Phillies and Astros are having another Hella good game. Big Puma just broke up a 2-2 tie in the top of the 9th with a three-run double.
Mik Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Most people knew the Marlins did pretty decent in that trade. Anibal was highly touted and of course they got the immortal Hanley Ramirez. Not to mention two great flamethrowers that are currently in AA. With that said... I've never been routing for a KC Royals hit more in my entire life.
CanadianChris Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 So the Marlins have four no-hitters, and the Mets still don't have any?
devo Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Well, they should have one, but partial scoring is to blame for erasing it from history.
vivalaultra Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Would it be going out on a limb to say that there's a good chance that the 2011 WS could be between the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the San Antonio Marlins?
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 The Phils are mounting a comeback, but Willy Taveras just cut the wheels off of it.
Mik Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I'm gonna catch heat for this, no doubt, but I'd be willing to bet they make the WS before 2011.
Bruiser Chong Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Derrek Lee just hit a grand slam to get Rich Hill off the hook from a potential loss, even though he gave up one earned and struck out 11.
devo Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I'm gonna catch heat for this, no doubt, but I'd be willing to bet they make the WS before 2011. Given their track record, that's not an outrageous statement in the slightest.
