King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 I rewatched it last night while not half asleep and there's nothing funnier than a posh, well spoken person speaking gangsta slang. Nothing. So long as they're half decent in the ring and the WWE don't go overboard with the parody to the point that it's just offensive, I've no problems with it. They're no LAX though. FroGG_NeaL 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 They're a parody of rappers who stay getting arrested for dumb shit, even though they're famous rappers. Only these dudes are pro wrestlers, see? cd213 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 I missed the video on Monday since I wasn't watching RAW and only read about it when I got home. The first thing that came to mind was "How can Vince get away with this?" I just got back from WWE.com where I watched the video and must say, I will mark out for these guys. This gimmick is soooo funny. I loved the video and just hope that these guys can work in the ring. The gimmik is so stupid it just might work. Just remember The Boogeyman got over and he can't wrestle and has an ever more stupid gimmick then Cryme Tyme, and I love horror films.

Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Jermaine Dupree and Da Brat are from Atlanta. Jermaine Dupri was never a person who tried to be gangsta though. He was always known as an intelligent man who had a passion for music. Young Jeezy, T.I., Young Wun are real gangsta rappers from ATL. STL is known for fake thugs trying to rap like Chingy and J-Kwon. Nelly isn't a gangsta rapper no more, he's only CD that was really "gangsta" was Country Grammar. And that was a really good CD. I think Cryme Time will be from Brooklyn, Compton, New Jersey or somthing along that line.
dh86 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2006 Alright it seems that this new tag team is causing controversy, I think this deverses it's own thread. As mullato(half black half white) man, I really don't find this offensive as most people are. I think this gimmick could work well, if used right, and could attract people from the Hip Hop crowd. It's not like they are saying all African-American's are thugs and gangstas, I mean they have blacks acting like thugs on other TV shows, what makes this difference? I mean there are other African-American wrestlers on RAW and SD! and they aren't going around acting like thugs. They have Booker T with his whole King gimmick, they have Shelton Benjamin as a star athlete, they have Lashley as the intense powerhouse who is himself doesn't have no real gimmick, and they have Elijah Burke who is pretty much himself also with no real gimmick, and so on and so forth. If they had every black male on the roster go up to each talking in slang, and acting like gangstas then yes I'd understand. I see this no different then New Jack, Ron Killings as the Truth, Slick and other past gimmicks. I mean they had the whole gangsta/thug gimmick a few years ago with John Cena, but the difference between him and Cryme Time is that Cena is white, so does that make it any better? The WWE is not trying to say all black people act this way, they are merely having 2 black wrestlers out of the whole African American roster act like gangstas. And if used right, they could be very succesful for the WWE and bring in the Hip Hop crowd into the WWE, more so then John Cena because alot of people viewed him a poser(not me though) and a Vanilla Ice. Drop your opinions. Dont be stupid...i'll assume by "hip hop crowd" you mean young blacks and I seriously doubt WWE playing up the worst stereotype for a black male for chuckles will bring in any fan...I honestly dont see the hilarity of 2 buff black guys seemingly uneducated beating a clerk to a persumably bloody pulp....to me its worse than eddie stealing jewelry while chavo stole a baby bottle...sure theres room for some stereotypical characters like mohammed hassan...he had redeeming qualities as in the social commentary that worked into his character...but theres a line I dont feel should be crossed and cryme tyme crip walked (im sure they'll do that dance soon enough) on that line for me Why would I mean young blacks? Alot of people from different races listen to Hip Hop, incase you didn't know. I suppose this is much worse then Booker T and Stevie Ray in their slave gimmick with an old white Southern man as the manger right? Get real. That's real racism and sterotype, that isn't. Believe it or not, their are black males who do act like this in bad areas of the States, and they are really making a gimmick out of it to help debut wrestlers. Like I said they have done this in the past in other organization, but it's because it's in the WWE, all of the sudden it's wrong. Harlem Heat could be consider sterotypical tag team aswell, but they ended up being one of the best and most over tag teams in the 90's. the hiphop crowd just happens to be the demographic WWE dominates in already...white males 18-34...so if you meant them then its a moot point...and this isnt "much worse" than the slavery angle but it is just as bad in my eyes...one represents the slavery that lasted 400 years and one represents the remnants of slavery that has plagued us ever since and will for as long as people have different color skin....of course theres black males that rob banks and beat up clerks...that doesnt mean that light has to be made of the terrible stigma associated with young blacks...and while u are on the reality binge...why then arent there a rob feinstein character stalking dominic mysterio? or JBL in a KKK hood? or Alex Wright rocking the swastika proclaiming aryan supremacy?...those characters doesnt exist because they cross the line...yes they represent certain real people and their thoughts but entire groups of people shouldnt be alienated for a cheap pop

There's only so many wrestling moves, holds, styles, etc. to see, it gets boring if thats all you look for.

I've been reading up on African-American history for over half a decade now. I problay know alot more about then you. It's irrelevent where I am from, I have lived in the states before, so it makes your point irrelevent. Your completely ignoring the points of my previous posts. THE WWE IS NOT SAYING ALL AFRICAN-AMERICANS ARE LIKE THIS. They have many African-American wrestlers in different gimmicks, or not even in a gimmick, and have them being themselves. Having a gimmick using Gangbangers is NOTHING new or out of the strange. If "In Living Color", "Chapelle Show", "Saturday Night Live" and many other shows and movies, but since the WWE is doing it, it's the biggest racist thing of all time. "one represents the slavery that lasted 400 years and one represents the remnants of slavery that has plagued us ever since and will for as long as people have different color skin" Gang-banging is not slavery your moron. Gang-Banging is somthing that is a choice, involving stupid people(for the most part) who think commiting crime's is cool. Instead of trying to make an effort of getting education and making an difference, they would rather rob stores and banks or deal drugs and hustle. That is a choice. Don't give me that "white people won't hire black people, so they resort to this" bullshit. Because there are pently of job oppurtunity's for young black people, IF THEY CHOOSE to. They do alot better job of killing the culture then the WWE has. Slavery there was no choice. Our people were sold to rich white folks where they would have to obey every demand or else suffer disgusting punishments, and which resulted in our women being raped by rich white males. And having no choice. To compare the 2 and calling "Gang-banging" another "slavery" is just plain ignorant. Yes the idea was scrapped, but how about the Gangstaz in SMW when they used fried chicken and watermelon, as weapons and had the whole affirmative action 2 count bullshit. Is this as bad as that? You problay will say yes. I don't even know why I'm debating with you in the first place, because your a very confused person. I went back on my word of not debating with you, but I figured I'll make one post regarding you. But I'm done debating with you.

These wrestlers are acting like Uncle Tom's, these African-Americans are comparable to Bryant Gumbel in acting like an Uncle Tom. "Coon" is basically another word from Uncle Tom. Which means a black person acting white. In my opinion, I find this word much more offensive then "Nigger". I find it funny he calls Bryant Gumbel a "coon", because he's done ALOT for the African-American community.
