devo Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Glad to see Milledge starting tonight, even if it is just because there's a lefty on the mound for the Marlins. One of the main things the Mets should be concerned about the last few weeks of the season is getting him as many at-bats as possible.
Guest Felonies! Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Twins lose, White Sox win. Bad day for baseball. Though the A's winning and Angels losing is a good thing. I'm torn!
Cheech Tremendous Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 A guy that is batting over .340 means little to the team's success? Alrightie then. Jeter is a very good player and he's having an excellent season. But really, the Yankees would hardly suffer if they lost him for the year. Just look at how they did with Sheffield and Matsui gone this year, and your eyes should tell you how insignificant one player can be to a machine like the Yankees. Let's look at a theoretical situation where Jeter is out. They already have a better SS on their team. If Jeter was out, they'd slide A-Rod over, acquire a 3B (like Shea Hillenbrand or comparable player) and lose a game or two in the standings. It wouldn't exactly bury the team.
Brett Favre Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Having to acquire another player shows us that he is valuable. Anyway, this year Jeter has been better than A-Rod. And I don't know why you have a problem with Yankee fans liking Jeter. You exaggerate even more, maybe because of the media, I don't know, but you're pissed at us for liking our team's (this year) best player? What's up man? He's one of the better hitters with RISP this year, so it's not like him going out wouldn't hurt us. If you take Ramirez or Ortiz off that 2004 team, maybe the Red Sox still would have been as good, but you don't see Yankee fans going "OHH THEY THINK ORTIZ IS GOD..MAN I WISH HE WAS HURT..THEN YOU CAN SEE BIG PAPI ISN'T THAT VALUABLE!" Just mind your shit.
Guest NYankees Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Arod with an ABOMB into the black seats.
Hawk 34 Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 The Reds, with a key chance to continue to gain ground on the WC take another step back as they are currently taking a beating from the Padres.
vivalaultra Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Somebody bad-mouthed the Killer B's. I love Biggio and Bagwell. My girlfriend said we couldn't name our children Jeff or Craig. I was sad. Comparing Jeter to either Biggio or Bagwell (especially Bagwell) is like comparing apples to oranges. Derek Jeter's played in over a hundred postseason games. Bagwell's played in 33. Jeter's average is about .50 higher than Baggy's, but his OBP is only slightly better. Biggio's only played in 40 postseason games, and his stats aren't anything really great either, but not horrible. And plus, Jeter didn't have to face Glavine, Maddux, and Smoltz in every single postseason series for the better part of the 90s. O.k. that's my best attempt at vindicating Bagwell and Biggio.
Guest Felonies! Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 That really did nothing to vindicate Messrs. Bagwell and Biggio.
Slayer Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Hey, viva likes the Astros' most notable players
naiwf Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 The Yankees would only win 90 games without Jeter. Clearly he is the MVP.
vivalaultra Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Biggio and Bagwell have statues outside Minute Maid Park. They have to be good. I like most Astros' players. Biggio and Bagwell aren't like...my favorite Astros of all-time, but if you're an Astros' fan that doesn't like Bidge or Baggy, something's wrong. My favorite Astros of all time are Ken Caminiti and Mike Scott.
Slayer Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 This is a random bit of player gush
the max Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Biggio and Bagwell have statues outside Minute Maid Park. They have to be good. Rocky has a statue too. He's a fictional character.
Guest Felonies! Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 I don't think active players should get statues so soon, but the Astros need all the history they can get, so who cares.
jwest27 Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 This is a random bit of player gush Well, to be fair, that was a random bit of player bashing by NYankees up there.
vivalaultra Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Biggio and Bagwell have statues outside Minute Maid Park. They have to be good. Rocky has a statue too. He's a fictional character. Shut up! He's is so real! And Paulie likes sno-cones! The Astros have history...not like the Cubs' history...which is a history....of LOSING! Ha! Zing! ...I got nothing.
Guest Felonies! Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 The statue should be a reward of sorts for amazing service to your team, but it shouldn't come until you've hung 'em up. Compared to retired numbers, statues are serious business, and as such should be limited to only the best players in the history of your team. In the case of the Astros, yeah those two (plus Nolan Ryan despite the team-hopping) are the greatest Astros ever, but just wait until they're done before you put their likenesses out there. The Anaheim (Mighty) Ducks have a statue of their mascot. Fuckin' pathetic team.
Slayer Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Philly built a statue of a fictional character because that's all they have going for them
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Philly built a statue of a fictional character because that's all they have going for them Actually, Sylvester Stallone built the statue and donated it to Philadelphia. There's a fair bit of debate where to place it right now.
vivalaultra Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 I dunno...they also make a good cheese steak.... And Rocky's not a ficitional damn character! He's as real as you or me or Cliff Huxtable.
Guest Felonies! Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 "Maybe she can meet Sherlock Holmes in heaven." "Homer, Sherlock Holmes is a character." "He sure is!"
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Actually, for a while we had two sports statues In Philly. We just traded one to the Yankees like a little over a month ago.
vivalaultra Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 The Tigers are continuing their chokejob. 8-3 Rangers in the 8th. Gary Matthews, Jr. is continuing his out-of-nowhere breakout year by hitting for the cycle in this game. Edit: Whoops...10-3 after Michael Young hits a 2-run shot.
the max Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Actually, for a while we had two sports statues In Philly. We just traded one to the Yankees like a little over a month ago. You mean that damn unclutch Bobby Abreu? That fucking lazy asshole who didn't run out grounders and didn't hustle after doubles in the gap, making his defense awful?

I wish his dad could've had a breakout year and not been such a fucking stupid coach for once, but that ship has sailed.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Actually, for a while we had two sports statues In Philly. We just traded one to the Yankees like a little over a month ago. C'mon. Sal Fasano's slow but he makes the most of what he has.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Yes, that lazy Bobby Abreu. Wow, he acts un-lazy because he's playing in the most popular baseball city in America. Wow. And actually has a spotlight on him. And has management that pressures him to perform. As opposed to Philadelphia, where baseball is the 4th most popular sport following the Eagles, Flyers, and 76ers, and no one cares about baseball at all, and the management probably doesn't know half of the players' names. Abreu having a good month for an actual contender doesn't take away the years of lazyness and untapped potential he wasted in Philly, smartass.
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 I think Sal Fasano is one of the best defensive catchers in baseball. In Philly, when he got to play, he was very much respected for his plays at the plate, hustle, and throw-outs. However, his offense was just too abysmal.

How the hell does a .411 career OBP, .303 batting average, 190+ home runs and 241 stolen bases equate into lazyness and untapped potential?!
