Ok I picked the wrong question to answer. But that still doesn't explain this:

If they had the same color pattern (genre), were in the same business (entertainment), but the newer restaurant had a dinner buffet and no breakfast buffet (in essence, no bomb going off)...would they steal be blatantly stealing from them?"

Why are you asking me if those two restaurants are still the same (stealing) when you just asked me to take out the one major similarity that I'm basing everything on? (the bomb)

I messed up earlier by defining my own analogies. Here ya go:

buffet = bomb

New York = breakfast

California = dinner

That being clear, you still didn't answer the question.

Except all Luthor wanted to do was increase the value of his land so he could make money. I really don't see how that "benefits humanity."

Now onto the New York/California thing. Yes, I would still consider it stealing because unlike 24 and Watchmen, the bomb storyline in Heroes isn't the only thing being used that's similar. If you typed that up because of my remark that Carlos Mencia would have had the "decency" to change the location, well that was just a joke. That's exactly what Mencia would have done. He would have stolen a joke and then changed a word of it and pretended that it was different. Except in the case of Heroes, they've taken a lot more than one word and they're not even attempting to say that it's different because they don't have to. They have legions of fans (most who haven't even read Watchmen so their opinions about this theft should be worthless (Hawk 34)) willing to do that for them.

No, I changed the location to California because that was the site of Luthor's scheme. And the parallel I was going for was each man's personal agenda. Linderman doesn't care if it benefits humanity or not. He knows it will be the catalyst to getting a man he can control into the President's chair.

So my point is Luthor didn't care about the millions killed as long as it helped him out. Neither does Linderman. If he had said California instead of New York, would you really tie it in to Watchmen so easily? Now earlier in this thread, you said that him saying "half of New York" was a big part of it. Just the word "half" was a major point you brought up. So would it really be the same? Be honest here. Did you get the Ozymandias vibe from Luthor's declaration of his master plan in Superman? Because there was going to be an explosion killing millions just so one man could accomplish what he wanted.

I swore pages ago that I was going to stop discussing this, and I have begged you to take the discussion somewhere else. Let's do this in PM, Chocolate Socket, start a new thread, or something. We have seriously derailed the thread.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have said "benefited" because neither Ozymandius or Linderman actually said that even though it was the result, but they did both use the term "united." Linderman is counting on the bomb bringing humanity together under a united fear, which is what Ozymandius also hoped to accomplish. Luthor counted on the explosion bringing his land prices up. It wasn't about instilling fear into people unless you're talking about the fear of being homeless. And no I didn't get the Ozymandius vibe from Luthor's plan because it just wasn't there. Now I obviously got the Ozymandius vibe from Linderman, and even those people who don't agree with my claims of theft got the vibe too. They were just fine with what Heroes did while I wasn't. But they clearly thought of Ozymandius when it happened.

Also, I've followed this thread from the beginning. Somehow I doubt my accusations of theft derailed any meaningful discussion seeing as how 80% of this thread is composed of people marking out in sentence fragments in response to Hiro. It's not like I corrupted some brilliant, thoughtful discussion. The episodes air, people make their short posts, some people ask questions, some people answer those questions and then there's a dead period in the middle of the week where nothing happens in this thread. All I did was take up that empty spot. You can still see people in this thread discussing Heroes without any care about this whole mess.

What the fuck are you talking about anyway? Jesus....

This is one of the only shows I watch on television these days. I missed last weeks (the last episode shown) episode, and didn't even realize it until they were showing the recap. So, if anyone can fill me in on what happend, it'd be great.

I used to have a clear cut favorite character in this show, but the last few episodes I've seen has changed my mind. I liked Clare and the events surrounding her, but they've switched gears now since they saved the cheerleader, and since its time to save the world, my favorite is by far Sylar. It was cool when he stole that female mechanics power for super sensitive hearing and it backfired on him.

Well of course you're not going to know what I'm talking about considering the fact that I'm talkng about the episode you just admitted you didn't see.

edit: And I thought most people here already knew about the episodes being on nbc.com

Very helpful, Dragon.

(Edit: This was written before Dragon did his edit. Confused yet?)

OK, grabbing this from TWoP since they do a great job of condensing things down (although they can be TOO snarky at times):

Bennet's being held captive by the Evil Eric Roberts, but he manages to throw some thoughts toward Parkman, and Matt starts taking orders from him in his mind. Bennet orders Matt to bust RadioacTed out of his own cell, and they in turn bust Bennet out of his. They all join forces and agree to head to New York to take down some tracking system so that Claire can be safe or something. Yeah, that didn't make a lot of sense to me either, but who cares? They're back, baby!

Linderman reveals to Nathan that, not only does he have a power of his own (healing), he also used to be partnered up with a bunch of other superheroes in the past. He claims that they all went bad, but since Linderman wants to blow up New York just so Nathan will get into the White House, I'd say his perception of good and bad is a little fuzzy, wouldn't you? Nathan agrees with me because he tells Linderman to go and shite. But later he kind of starts digging that painting of him in the White House, and I think he's going to let a lot of innocent people die just so he can get a blow job in the Oval Office.

Peter repeats his visit to Mohinder's place and once again finds the poor man stapled to the ceiling. Sylar appears and starts to rip Peter's skull open, but Peter heals too quickly for him to gain access to the gray matter inside. They engage in a gnarly little battle that ends with Peter dead and Sylar knocked out by a newly brave Mohinder. Mo then takes Peter directly to Mama Petrelli's house, interrupting a heartwarming chat the old lady is having with Claire about how Claire needs to shut her pie hole and go to France already.

Meanwhile, in Vegas, DL is suddenly onto Jessica impersonating Niki (did I miss something somewhere? When the hell did THAT happen?) and he declares that he's taking Micah away and that Jessica better just suck it up and deal. Jessica actually seems to consider this as an option because, hey, she's really not exactly PTA mother of the year, you know? Linderman then requests a meeting with Jessica and tells her that he needs to borrow Micah for a bit. Jessica tells him to go fuck himself. So Linderman brings in Candice the Wonder Morpher to impersonate Jessica impersonating Niki, and Candice hands little Micah right over to the Big Bad Boss. What the man has planned for the poor boy is anyone's guess.

Nathan returns home to weep over his dead brother's body. Claire busts in and wants a moment of her own with her dead uncle. She removes the glass from Peter's head and he totally comes back to life. Everyone acts surprised, but Mama Petrelli just informs them that she's known about her "special" sons since long before even THEY did. Nathan then tells Claire that he loves her and everything, but could she go to Paris already because dude's gotta go fondle some interns in the Lincoln bedroom, dammit!

After Sylar disappears from his floor, Mohinder calls Bennet, only to have Evil Eric Roberts show up instead. Their meeting is relatively unfruitful and only serves to creep Mohinder out because Evil Eric Roberts is really skeevy. Sylar's across town, paying a visit to Isaac, who appears to have grown an extra set of brass balls because he bravely faces off against Sylar even though the man is seriously murderous. Sylar kills him anyway. Bye, Isaac!

And, finally, Hiro and Ando have landed five years in the future and the bomb's already gone off. So they decide to go visit Mystery Sock. Instead of finding their friend, however, they just find this whacked-out version of his studio and…Future Hiro! And he looks mighty pissed to see them, let me tell you. But his soul patch is the BOMB. Um. Unfortunate choice of words, no?

Yeah, I do consider it helpful since I posted the link to the episode while you posted a boring text summary.

Yeah, and if he doesn't live in the States? He can't watch it. (Edited because it's not worth arguing about)

Well since you referred to it as "last week's" (7 weeks ago) episode I assumed you meant the newest one. Anyway episode 18 is also on the site.

You know what I just thought about?

If Future Hiro tells Peter "Save the cheerleader, save the world" and in his time the New York bomb did go off, he obviously wasn't talking about the New York Nuke at all.

I think that save the cheerleader means that Nathan's secret daughter is still around thus making it possible to bring up some scandal on Mr. "bring the world together". Fucking up his hold on the world thus, she saves the world by existing....

I watched this show for the first time on Monday night and must say that it was boring. It seemed to me like the makers of the show watched The 4400 and The Dead Zone and thought they would put them together. Didn't do anything for me.

I've slightly followed it, but not in depth. Monday was the first episode I've seen fully and it just didn't do anything for me. Plus it's really not hard to figure out what was going on.

But its a character driven show. If you come in not knowing shit about the characters, it would be kinda boring I guess. Plus, there is no way you could follow the whole season off of last night. I wouldn't watch anymore and just watch the whole season.

Not sure how reliable this is going to turn out to be but I've been reading around on various forums and.....well....this is interesting. Regarding the finale......

Sylar kills Claire and Ted, thus absorbing the nuke powers and remaining indestructible. He's the event in NY, not Peter.

I am thinking that peter ends up doing it on purpose. I think he kills Sylar, has a heel turn and does it on purpose.

Ok, did this bug anyone else?

When Pete goes invisible and Sylar Sloooooowly raises glass from the floor...um, didn't Peter have time to if not take cover, AT LEAST not have his back him Sylar? Sorry, but that bugged me for no reason really.

Yeah, i took it as peter went invisible and stopped moving once the glass came up. Thinking Sylar wouldn't know where he was. As soon as he made a move Sylar hit him with the glass. Remember, he got hit in the BACK of the head.

Last night on Conan they showed a clip of next weeks ep with Future Hiro telling present Hiro that

Sylar is the one wo explodes

either someone screwed up and gave that spoiler away, or they're using it as midirection.

OK, I'm gonna be nitpicky here, but has anyone noticed that the promos have Hiro and Ando going to 2012? Isn't that SIX years into the future if everything in the "present" has happened before the 2006 elections?
