NFL Week 4

Recommended Posts

How much weaker is the NFC than the AFC, though? I don't think we're gonna have another year like 2004 in which two .500 teams make the playoffs in the NFC. Besides, the AFC has the disappointing Dolphins and the ridiculously bad Browns/Raiders/Titans.

I don't think it's as weak as it use to be.

Hey, looks like the Raiders might beat the Browns. So much for the impossible dream.

Speaking of historically bad teams, wasn't it fairly recently that the Panthers lost 15 games in a row? 2001, 2002?

Is it me or does the NFL have the weakest rules? You must allow the punt reciver a fair chance to catch the football? What kind of shit is that?

The announcers sell Caldwell's hit like he was shot: "Medical tests being ran...", "Caldwell, if you can believe it, is back!"

I hope the officials aren't like this for the Bears game tonight. I want Brian Urlacher to kill someone.

The ending to the Jet game almost game me a heart attack. Probably not, but my chest felt weird. Damn they were so close.

I didn't see the game, was it a close game?

I wonder how insufferable the ESPN guys will be this week if the Pats end up winning this game by double digits which seems likely since the Bengals defense is being shredded right now.

I like the under in the Bears/Seahawks game. I probably won't watch it because I don't like SEC football.

Yeah, Indy scores with 2 min.-ish left. Up 3. Jets return the kickoff 103 yard for a NY record, take the lead by 4. Patriots score a TD, woeful NY defense, with like 30 seconds left. Gramatica's kickoff pins the Jets at the 2 with 30ish seconds and 0 timeouts. Last play is the "50 laterals" attempts, 8 seconds left, Jets got it to the 20 and time ran out.

You already know the answer. If a team is within 200 miles of Bristol (or in NY) they have no choice but to let it be known how good that team is to the rest of a country who would like to hear about their teams every now and then.

Re: Winless season

If the Browns lose to the Raiders, they could go 0-16. They'll be the considerable underdog in every game this year up to Week 16 and Week 17, where they play the Buccaneers and Texans.

They also play KC, tho. At home. But KC just crushed the 9ers so they seem to play well against crap.

But Browns just took the lead. Raiders really need to pick it up now.

Pats 4 SB CHAMPS~!11!1

I wonder how quickly the Bengals bandwagon will empty.

Re: ESPN -> The ESPN talking heads will do a quick 180 as they'll say Tom Brady got this team to jell because he's the greatest leader of our time, or that Belichick and his crew of geniuses finally came up with a way to replace Branch. Trust me, the slurpjob will be thorough this week.

How the Jets moved downfield on their multi-lateral, multi-fumble final play against the Colts:

3rd-and-3, Jets 32: (Shotgun) Chad Pennington pass short middle to Leon Washington to Jets for 8 yards (tackle Freeney).

Lateral to Brad Smith to Jets 37 for minus 3 yards.

Lateral to Laveranues Coles to Colts 44 for 19 yards.

Lateral to Pennington to Colts 37 for 7 yards.

Lateral to Justin McCareins to Colts 35 for 2 yards. FUMBLE.

Fumble recovered by Brad Smith at Colts 33, to Colts 37 for minus 4 yards. FUMBLE.

Fumble recovered by Coles at Colts 40, to Colts 27 for 13 yards.

Lateral to Nick Mangold to Colts 27, no gain. FUMBLE.

Fumble recovered by Colts CB Jason David at Colts 34, to Colts 39 for 5 yards (tackle L.Washington).

Coles was the MVP of the lateral frenzy.

The Pats secret weapon is their front office. They consistently draft good guys and get good free agents, etc.

The Bengals screwed up by punting on the Pats 40. What a stupid play. 4th and 2. Best you can possibly hope for is +35 yards or so on a punt, and if it goes into the end zone you end up with a +20 yard punt. So they punt it away, Pats march down and score. Dumb.

4 and 2 on opponent's 40 you should nearly always go for it.

Coles also got hurt because of said frenzy. If he's out for a while, Mangini will have had a really bad afternoon.

Man, the Bengals are getting killed. I suppose it helps when you get 15 free yards for a simple tackle.

Oh well, time for Football Night In America!
