tominator89 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 What I have learned this week: The Colts are not as good as previous years and have no running game. But Peyton is still a winner. The Jets can't D-Up under pressure. The Saints are not that good. The Vikings offense is awful. The Cowboys have a pretty good offense and Bledsoe is throwing well. Titans fans are great. Even when their team is getting blown out they still stick around th give Young a huge ovation when he comes up with nice plays. Carolina is slowly getting back on track. They get off to a slow start nearly every year, seemingly. So far the elite look to be: Cincy, Indy, Baltimore and Philly, Chicago. I won't consider the Eagles to be an elite team until they can beat a division opponent, like Dallas this upcoming week.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 I totally agree, but that Giants loss was an extreme breakdown, and they should be sitting at 3-0. I think they crush Green Bay, handle Dallas in a tough game, and beat New Orleans pretty easily. So 5-1 works for me, and they need that, considering it gets much tougher. The NFC is still so inferior that its hard to call any of the teams there "elite". I mean, Eagles blew a huge lead to NY, the Bears didn't look good last week, Seattle is playing poorly except for the NY game and now they've lost Alexander for however long. It may take a few weeks to see who's a pretender. I'm totally not sold on the Falcons, though. Michael Vick is a fraud and it's only a matter of time before they collapse again. naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 I'm not ragging on them. Simmer down. I just said they're not THAT good. As in Super Bowl contender. Personally, I see them at 9-7. No one on the Saints would have listed the Saints as a Super Bowl contender going into today. Saying they're not that good is putting them on par with the Buffalos and Arizonas of the world who'll be glad to go 6-10 or 7-9. Even if NO had won today, they still wouldn't have been a SB contender. If the Pats hold on and win this game, are the Bengals "not that good" either? UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 "Saying they're not that good is putting them on par with the Buffalos and Arizonas of the world who'll be glad to go 6-10 or 7-9." Don't be so dumb. Saying they're not that good simply means just that, they're decent-good but not a team that's gonna win nearly every game. No one said the Saints were a Super Bowl team. That doesn't mean they're free from being criticizes for not being one. In the poor NFC, a good start like the Saints have/had automatically makes them a contender. I simply stated that they're gonna barely make the playoffs, if they do. BTW, Arizona was predicted to be a playoff contender.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 "If the Pats hold on and win this game, are the Bengals "not that good" either?" Bengals are different from the Saints, because the Bengals have actually beaten a GOOD team this year and they're coming off a very good previous season. If the Bengals lose to the Patriots, depending on how they lose, it'll just be because of a lack of experience, since the Bengals, IMO, have a more talented team. naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 BTW, Arizona was predicted to be a playoff contender. By people who forgot that Kurt 'Fumbles' Warner was their starting QB. These same geniuses had Miami winning the SB despite Daunte 'Clutch INT' Culpepper being their QB. The Saints blew out the NFC South leading Atlanta Falcons last week and barely lost to the Panthers on the road in what was basically a must for Carolina. Again, it's not like they lost to the Bucs. They're not an elite team, but they're also not my Giants who would be classed as "not that good" based on their start, and yet they still managed to beat the Eagles in Philly but that doesn't dissuade you from listing them as an elite team. Consistency isn't your thing, that's cool. I just didn't understand it when we first started this discussion.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 Vince Young looked alright IMO today from what I saw. He seems like he will be getting adjusted to the NFL play sooner then most thought. From what I've seen he's looked better then most 1st year QB's.

Consider the conspiracy theories about the Patriots winning the Superbowl because of Sept 11 why can't the Saints with the Superbowl because of Katrina? Pats vs Saints at Superbowl this year! The winner, the politicians. If the media had their way, it'd be New Orleans Vs Cincinnati. Chris Henry's antics in Miami and the "emotional" story of NO probably would have the media doing backflips. Combine that with the Reggie Bush starpower, Chad Johnson and Joe Horn in a smack-off war... So it'll be Seattle Vs New England, most likely. Those Patriots aren't respected at all, at all
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 naiwf, you ignore the fact that I outright explained the Eagles ranking as "elite", despite their loss, as being because the NFC sucks and their lone loss was an aboration. You want my honest opinion? The NFC has *NO* elite teams. However, the closest things would be the Bears and Eagles, both who have had one bad game each. But in those games, the Bears found a way to win and the Birds played like a Super Bowl team for 1/2 of the game. So I give them both the benefit of the doubt. Reading must not be your thing. But I do agree with you that anyone thinking the Arizona Cardinals or Miami Dolphins were going to be good this year is an idiot. I sure didn't, if only because of the washed up QBs they have, among other problems.

Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 Bills almost blew it today thanks to the same crap that drags them down every week, namely stupid penalties and spotty defence. I am liking J.P. Aberration. More importantly, Don't be damaramu. The Eagles have lost this year. Whether they should have isn't relevant. Taking Chicago & Seattle aside, The Eagles are 2-1. The Saints & Falcons are 3-1. The Falcons got smacked by the Saints on the road, but they do have a win over Carolina even though STEVE SMITH~! didn't play. The Saints lost by 3 on the road to the Panthers who are one of the better teams in the conference regardless of their 2-2 record. Again, they whipped the Falcons' ass on national TV. The Eagles lost AT HOME to a 1-2 Giants team. When the NFL standings start awarding victories by who played better for the first 45 or so minutes please let me know. Thus far, the Eagles loss was the worst of those 3 teams AND they haven't beaten anyone of note this year since Houston & SF will be vying for high picks in next year's draft. It's cool to be a fan of your team but at least try to be objective.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 This personal foul call is bullshit. It was clearly a great, hard-hitting tackle to knock the ball loose. Helmets are gonna touch every now and then, when, the object of defense is for one helmet-wearing guy to tackle another.

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2006 Dama was an annoying homer who couldn't be reasoned with. I put over my team as being a strong team in a weak conference. In my next post, I said that it's gonna take weeks to determine if there is a true "elite" team in the NFC. Relax, I'll proclaim the Birds elite when they are 5-1. If they get to 5-1, then they'll have beaten a good Cowboys team and New Orleans, who is also good.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted October 1, 2006 How much weaker is the NFC than the AFC, though? I don't think we're gonna have another year like 2004 in which two .500 teams make the playoffs in the NFC. Besides, the AFC has the disappointing Dolphins and the ridiculously bad Browns/Raiders/Titans.
