I don't know if it's so much the Cards looking impressive (although, there have been some nice defensive plays) as it is the Padres just being awful with RISP.

That what happens when people like Russel Branyan and Mark Bellhorn get up and big spots and have to deliver.

Pujols drives in the first run with a single and then escapes a rundown to get to second base. 1-0 Cardinals.

Part of the problem was the cutoff guy, who might have batted down a perfectly good throw home. Sure, it got Pujols into a rundown, but it seemed like the rest of the infield was a little surprised that they were attempting a play at second base there.

The Mets would have. Maybe the Cards, if Pujols was healthy all year, could have hit 80 HR's or something. Other than that, not looking good.

On the other hand, the Mets were spanked in interleague play this year. American League teams would have feasted on that pitching staff. There is no way that team was better than say, the Red Sox, and we saw how mediocre they were this year.

The Mets were also stuck playing the cream of the crop in the AL East, though.

Isn't that the whole point behind the question, though? It's not like the Mets wouldn't play those teams if they were in the Amercian League anyway.

And Wainwright gets him looking for the final out in the ninth and a win for the Cards.

But, they could also beat up on the Devil Rays.

Plus, I think the National League is at a significant disadvantage with the DH.

Hey, no Chris Berman!

Instead we get treated to Joe Morgan......man what.

Ahahaha, second and third with no outs and Brian Giles at the plate, he's talking about manufacturing runs.

What was the reason for taking out the only Padre to get a hit with RISP in the series in favor of a guy who didn't even play the last couple weeks of the season because of an injury that affected his hitting?

They wanted their "best defensive lineup" on the field. Don't know if I agree with the call, but it didn't hurt them today, so no problem I guess.
