Mik 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Zito going in game 1 for the A's. Still undecided for the Tigers. I hope Joe Morgan has to call at least one of the games so his head explodes on live television. Tigers in 6.

Bored 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 My prediction for the storyline FOX slams into the ground for the series is the Billy Beane chair throwing incident after the A's drafted Jeremy Bonderman.
Guest Smues Report post Posted October 8, 2006 I'm more curious what new show they over hype this year. And if the show will fail miserably like Skin or Girls Club, or succeed like House. HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTOURNEY!

the max 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 TWO CINDERELLA TEAMS! NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS PICKED EITHER OF THESE TEAMS TO ADVANCE! Should be an entertaining series that will likely set new lows for ratings.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 I should've known this was going to be the ALCS. The Yankees don't advance to the ALCS unless it's they're going to play the Red Sox, and vice versa. Seems like the new rule.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 Again, I like both teams in the series, but will pull for the A's in this case. I'm terrified of the Tigers' pitching, and don't want them as the opposition should the Mets make the World Series.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2006 I think this will be a really fun series to watch. Hopefully not too many people miss out 'cuz these teams aint famous.'

Bored 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 Tigers will stick with their rotation for the ALDS and start Nate Robertson in Game 1. A's will also stick with their rotation even though Rich Harden didn't pitch in the ALDS. I'm still thinking they still aren't sure about his elbow and he looked pretty bad in the last game of the season after two promising starts. I might as well mention that by reasons of insanity or more likely to force people into putting down deposits for 2007 season tickets, the A's are not taking off the tarps on the upper deck even if they make it to the World Series. They aren't even putting up World Series tickets for general sale but holding a lottery for the tickets. I can understand not selling the seats on top of Mount Davis as those seats are completely worthless for baseball (trust me I've sat up there once and you can see San Francisco better than the field) but not removing them from the upper deck is nuts. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted October 9, 2006 That will look great for baseball! Tens of thousands of tarped-off seats for the World Series? Even the buttfucking Marlins opened the rest of their shitty park up.
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 The least they can do is make it look pretty. Make a "2006 ALCS CHAMPIONS" printing onto the tarp. No, it's just plain stupid. No wonder this team can't afford players, they waste money making opportunities like this.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 I'm going for the A's, mainly because of Frank Thomas. One of my favorite players growing up, I would like to see him earn a ring.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 Why wouldnt the As want to sell more tickets? How does that possibly help them?
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted October 9, 2006 Scarcity, I suppose, but come on, this is ridiculous. This is a new thing from the new owner, too: the upper deck was open in the Steve Schott years. I know the A's don't get the best attendance during the year, but I'm sure they would for the ALCS, so if there's demand, come on, open up your stadium. The Coliseum's capacity is like 30,000 now. That's way too low for the playoffs.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 I've been waiting for the Tigers to get good again for years. I've gotta pick my team. Hopefully the A's put up a better fight than the Yanks though

That's way too low for the playoffs. Well it was Schott who killed the season ticket base. I actually didn't mind the tarp idea for the regular season but it backfired because after putting the tarps they started talking about moving to Fremont (20 minutes from Oakland) and that a pissed off a lot of people so thus the demand for season tickets didn't go up as much as they hoped. Again my theory is that they are doing it for the playoffs to force people to put down deposits for 2007 season tickets out of fear of being shut out for the World Series. Really there is no other logical explanation to not open the upper deck. If they do advance scalping is going to be out of control.
dh86 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2006 I pray game 1 is the only game Robertson starts...Bonderman and Rogers have both been spectacular against Oakland over their careers
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 well well well. my two favorite childhood teams. i don't think i know more about any two teams. i guess i'll give my very unbiased opinion. starting pitching: advantage a's. i'd take 4 top end guys over anything the tigers have. all four of the tigers starters could already be out of gas. verlander, bonderman, and rogers could all be out of gas due to their ages. when robertson pitches, he'll do just enough to win & a lot to lose. he won't overpower & rarely impresses. relief pitching: advantage tigers. zumaya, rodney, and jones are almost lights out if the tigers have a lead into the 7th inning. jamie walker is a capable left handed specialist. wil ledezma & jason grilli are capable long distance relievers. the only guy that scares me is zack miner. but even he did some magnificent things earlier in the year. the a's bullpen is not horrible by any means. duchscherer, kennedy, calero, and street are all capable relievers. blanton and sarloos are probably better long relievers than what the tigers are offering, though. but none of a's have the over-powering strength of zumaya or the cagey veteran dependancy of todd jones. defense: advantage tigers. at nearly every position, the tigers are stronger in the field. losing the middle infielders hurts the a's tremendously. while guillen nearly led the a.l. in errors, he is still capable of making critical plays. polanco is a strong defensive influence. the only position that the a's have a better player at is 3rd base, but even that comes with some question marks. chvez has been hurting for awhile & inge has slowly developed a reputation as one of the stronger fielders in the league. while the tigers don't have any speedsters, they could look to challenger jason kendall's arm. the same will not be said about the a's against pudge. hitting: tie. while the tigers may have a more balanced line-up, they do not have that one game changing bat in the middle of their line-up. both of the tigers big name bats (pudge & magglio) were silent in the first round. it was streaky & unproven stars like curtis granderson, marcus thames, and craig monroe who made the difference. dependable batters like sean casey, carlos guillen, and polanco chipped in nicely as well. conversley, the a's have a hot & healthy future h.o.f. in the middle of their line-up who can burn ANYONE at anytime. he's propped up by a suddenly post season mvp candidate marcus scutaro as well as jason kendall & mark kotsay. ultimately, the a's will need eric chavez & milton bradley to bust of their slumps to succeed. just as quickly as the tigers unheralded stars broke out, they can fall silent. winner: banky. Bored 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 God damn I can't wait to get to the game tommorrow. I wonder what American Idol reject FOX will get to sing the national anthem? Found a link on foxsports.com for the regional breakdown for Wednesday night's games as both LCS' will be going on at the same time. Less than 20% of the country will get Game 2 on FOX while the rest will get Game 1 of the NLCS. Detroit Tigers at Oakland Athletics 17% MARKETS INCLUDE: Cleveland, Detroit, Minneapolis, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle The game will be carried on FX for all other markets. Also for this series it's a damn shame the Yankees didn't hire Lou Pinella today so we possibly wouldn't be subjected to hearing him announce for this series. Note: Due to their numerous infield injuries, to replace Mark Ellis on the roster they've had to add minor leaguer Mark Kiger to the roster who just this year at age 27 made it to Triple-A. He'll only see action in an emergency but I'd have to imagine he'd be the first player ever to make his MLB debut in the playoffs.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2006 I can't decide who to cheer for. I hated both of these teams growing up. Not so much now, with the Tigers in a different division and Oakland being more likable. I'll say A's in 6.
