WWE 24/7

Recommended Posts

Yes, we discussed it (briefly) in the Spider-Man 3 thread and possibly 2 years ago in the SW thread (in regards to ROTS). I was joking, although it is kind of a fine line with 24/7 because a lot of it is new to some people (despite being years old).

It's like about a year and a half ago, someone posted a J-Cup (forget the year, maybe 94?) tournament on PWT. Someone I was talking to refused to download it because the poster gave out the full tournament bracket and thus "had no reason to watch it", which I thought was kind of bull but I understood his point.

I dunno...if you're a WWE watcher, as most of us are, surely by now you know what's happened.

By the way, I owe the Razor Ramon Coliseum Home Video an apology, becaue I ripped on it being two hours, but it is actually pretty good.

Drury37 do they show all the matches in full.

I think they show the sweet Razor/Shawn match from Raw in 94 on that Razor special. It's not a ladder match and it just flows really good.

I watched that Razor show last year. Gee, are they just repeating the same programs? I guess they'll have to drag out GAB 1990 during the summer yet again. Let's get some other obscure WCW PPVs, dammit! How about some Watts era shows? I guess they DID have Havoc 92 and Starrcade 92, but why no Beach Blast 92? GAB 92? WrestleWar 92 with the War Games?

I also have Vengeance (which I mentioned at the beginning of the month would be on) so I assume spman made a typo.

The 6 man tag from ECW Barley Legal seems like an odd choice to spotlight Latino Legends, but it's an awesome match. I watched the 6 man match from Nitro in Shorties (involving La Parka) and there was a line in commentary that got a good laugh out of me. When Hector Garza does a big dive, Larry says "Who does that guy think he is, Captain Planet?". I know it's a Turner cross-promotion deal, but any CP reference is ok with me.

It's actually a tv show match, not the PPV match. It's also not from the ECW Arena as the caption claims.

Tuesday Night Titans has the Killer Bees match from the rain soaked Puerto Rico show. It's a sight to behold.

only thing i have not seen on 24/7 was the Pick Your Big One (unless that was Vengance 2003)

Hmm, I just assumed by taking a 1 second glance it the was the bWo Japan match from the Barley Legal PPV. Not sure why.

MNW is ok this episode. Nitro is fairly dull but Dean/Ultimo was ok while it lasted (killer brainbuster early in the bout). I loved all the Raw cheap shots at Robin Hood while constantly advertising La Femme Nikita (Nikita could take that skinny Robin Hood! No bait and switch here!). I liked the Bret angle and Furnas & Lafon vs Bulldog & Owen was pretty good. It was also an interesting episode in that, as far as I know, it was the first time Lawler and Ross called a show without McMahon (I think McMahon was on a hiatus from Raw in the summer of 96 but Kevin Kelly was on the commentary team).

Yeah I watched the MNW show tonight and I have to say that Raw punked Nitro big time. It's funny when people blather about WCW and say "Whoa, Nitro beat Raw for 83 straight weeks!" I pose the question: How many of those 83 weeks was Nitro actually a better show than Raw? I'd say it was for the 2nd half of 1996, but really once the Bret/Austin feud picked up steam Raw was easily superior in quality.

Also checked out the added World Class show and it's wonderful (as they've all been thus far). What blows my mind is that back then WCCW only really had 3 actual heels on the entire roster: Kabuki, Magic Dragon, and Checkmate. I guess Spoiler and Wild Bill Irwin were also heelish. On the face side you had all the Von Erichs, Al Madril, Brian Adias, and Bugsy McGraw. Of course the heel side will be bolstered hugely when the Freebirds turn, but that is coming up in a few weeks.

The highly intriguing guy in World Class was King Kong Bundy though. If you watch the shows you'll know that he essentially got fed up with Gary Hart and Co. and left to go out on his own, but also got Hart and Co. in trouble with the NWA office for copying a $5000 check from Flair that was Kabuki's bounty to take out Kerry Von Erich. In other words Bundy is now at odds with Hart and his men, but yet still feuding at times with the Von Erichs. This is fascinating booking for 1982, very proto tweener style stuff from Bundy and I'm digging it big time. Shades of gray!

I'd say just about everything on Raw was enjoyable outside of Faarooq vs. Bart. And I have to say, Lawler can really suck at commentary at times, but I don't know if he's ever been more annoying than when he was calling the Austin-Taker match. Just non-stop squealing about Taker's injured ribs. Yeah, he's supposed to be the heel commentator, but dear god.

hey, I already told you this Latino stuff they're showing is the exact same stuff they showed last May.

Well, I didn't get 24/7 until last November, so I guess it won't bother me until next May... ;)

That's what happened to me two weeks ago, it was annoying. Although in my instance, I was missing a lot that all gradually showed up except MNW.

I was happy this week because, for the first time in awhile, EVERYTHING was there at midnight. That gives me hope Cogeco is back on their game.

For those who have watched the MSG show:

Without spoiling the result, is the Mascaras-Graham match as craptacular as it sounds?

I didn't pay close attention. I don't think it's that bad though, just a standard Graham title match. Remember that Mascaras was at least then in his prime.

Even in his prime Mascaras didn't like to bump, and I can't imagine Graham taking Mascaras' offense properly.

got to watch all the stuff before the tuesday turnover. Good to see the 1/13/97 Nitro had the parts of Hogan/Giant that happened in the commerical breaks cuz I never got to see that when it aired back in the day , cuz I had to go out after Nitro ended.

with the new MNW coming on, I should watch the 97 rumble dvd to stay in order, since the hype for me got me interested, but I havent watch a rumble dvd since last month with the 92 show (hard to watch my dvds when 24/7 puts on so much stuff every week) and would rather watch them all in order.

only new thing I watched was the Morales/Savage match, not too greta but a fun savage promo beforehand, and the crowd was way into Macho here even as a heel.

the morales special is pretty interesting as it actually shows the Koloff/Pedro title change match, with commentary by Jim Ross, plus the Morales/Muraco where Pedro regained the IC title. even if the matches kinda suck, cool to have the history recorded on dvd.

Graham looked bad taking a few moves, including a dropkick and a hiptoss. They looked well when they used grappling sequences. I'd put it in the *1/2-** range. It wasn't all that good, but nothing you'd actively piss on. The ending though is awful, and shows what a different booking mindset wrestling had in that era.

Raw was really good in the MNW. JR taking pot shots at the Robin Hood bait and switch from the previous Nitro was funny, Austin owned in his two promos, and we got a fun Furnas and Lafon vs Owen and Bulldog match. Nitro was boring though.

I don't know if every match is in its entirety, but they have the WWF WrestleMania X Ladder Match and the WWF Royal Rumble 1994 match both for the WWF Intercontinental Title in their entireties I know they have that atleast. Oh and the great Rick Martel Vs. Razor Ramon match which I love for the WWF Intercontinental Title from WWF Monday Night Raw in 1994.

WCCW is a better show than NWA in my opinion. NWA is great for interviews but mostly boring for wrestling, whereas WCCW gives you some good action and some promos too.

Actually the Razor/Martel IC title match was from Oct. 1993 if I'm not mistaken. They were finalists in a battle royale and faced off the next week, or really the same show but shown the next week.

I think Johnny Polo and Gorilla Monsoon (featured on the Ramon video) was the best worst commentary pairing ever. They seem to be on their own wavelengths and a lot of times it sounds like Polo is trying to be funny and Monsoon misses it. However, and this isn't related to 24/7, Polo singing Come on Baby Light My Fire during the Shawn/Marty cage match was pretty great.

I think the reason WWE 24-7 recycled the stuff from last year is that they have a larger subscriber base this year at this time than last. So to the majority its completely new content. I bet next year it will be different.
