NFL 2007 Draft Thread

Recommended Posts

Peterson was smart coming out this year, he'll be the top RB and a top 6-15 pick as people have mentioned (Houston at #8?) unless Lynch has a tremendous workout. Plus with all of the potential RB's next year (McFadden, Slaton) this was a good move. His injuries are a real concern, but his talent level is amazing when healthy and that will be too tantalizing for teams to pass up.

If you watch any of them, feel free to put your thoughts on players here to give the rest of us some idea of how they may transition to the NFL or what round to expect them to be drafted in.

The Broncos (and, by extension, Kubiak) don't use high draft picks on running backs. However, if AP is available at 8 I don't see how they don't at least write his name on a card and tell the runner to be ready to send it up if the clock runs down. I'm pretty sure the coaching staff is high on Chris Taylor, but let's face it, he's an undrafted FA with decent size and decent speed, but doesn't stand out in either. Ron Dayne is, well, Ron Dayne. Walli Lundy is a small back who doesn't have breakaway speed. The Texans basically just lack the guy who can be the "home run" guy out of the backfield, the big play guy.

Personally, I think the Texans would be better served spending the pick along the lines. If no one grades out that well (or guys like Joe Thomas and Alan Branch are gone) I wouldn't mind seeing AP wearing a Texans cap.

Wait, whatever happened to using Samkon Gado?

He went MIA after about his 3rd game in Houston. I'm hoping Sherman gets the Cards job so we can ship Samkon to him for a draft pick, some athletic tape, anything. I'll even throw in Flanagan.

Flanagan was of no use to you guys? Interesting.

Green Bay would love to have both of them back in backup roles. Flanny was a great center for a long time for us, he had to replace a hell of a guy in Frank Winters. Not that Scott Wells is doing a bad job, but Flanagan can play guard too.

Gado's stats says he played in 9 games so he didnt totally go MIA, but yeah. Texans need a better line, obviously.

As a rutgers fan, I'm curious as to where Brian Leonard goes round wise. He's the best full back in the draft, but how much is that really worth?

Here's the first fullbacks taken in the last five drafts.

2006: Round 5, #163, David Kirtman USC (Seattle)

2005: Round 5, #158, Justin Green Montana (Baltimore)

2004: Round 2, #55, Greg Jones Florida State (Jacksonville)

2003: Round 3, #85, B.J. Askew Michigan (NY Jets)

2002: Round 3, #84, Lamar Gordon North Dakota State (St. Louis)

As far as Brian Leonard goes, I would say that he goes towards the tail end of Day One, late third round.

What's Domanick Davis' status?

EDIT: Apparently he's Domanick Williams now.

He's still talking about coming back and is apparently doing all the rehab, but I doubt he'll ever see the field again. Reports have it that his knee has lost basically all it's cartilege, leaving it bone on bone in there. Painful to run on, and it can lead to arthritis of the joint. I'm pretty sure he's done barring some minor medical miracle.

Anyone looking for a quarterback, David Carr is looking more and more likely to be trade bait by the Texans. For who you ask? Apparently, Jake freaking Plummer. Right, Plummer is really going to excel behind a line that doesn't give you to one Mississippi to throw the ball. That is the latest rumor: The Texans will deal Carr, possibly for a third or fourth round pick, or just outright release him (if they do, stab yourself in the balls Texan fans) and sign Jake Plummer (who is likely bye bye in Denver) to be the quarterback with Sage Rosenfels.

Any team needing a quaterback, there you go. Seriously. I want to see what David Carr can do behind a line when he doesn't have to scramble for his life every play. You had a run heavy offense that couldn't run, a line that couldn't block and somehow Carr was the problem. I don't know HOW exactly, but alrighty.

FUCKING PERFECT.

I said it before last season and during last season when Carr was posting the highest QB rating in the league, that I would LOVE for the Packers to take a shot at him. Now's your shot, Ted Thompson. If anything, this gives you some insurance for Aaron Rodgers. Carr can play. FUCKING DO IT!

Oh I fucking swear.. if that's the move we pull off then I'm done with Houston and will fuckin back Dallas.

I'm not a Carr fanboy, but fuckin seriously... it's not hard to see that without a line to block for him, he can't do much.

*sigh* ...sadly, Houston would pull this bullshit...

Wow...didn't know WR Ryne Robinson had 7 Returns for TDs with 5 called back on penalties in his career. Could be a good 4th/5th round steal if he falls that far for his return skills.

The North/South All-Star game is currently on ESPN2. South leads 17-7 at the half although it's cool to see some of these small school players from Georgetown and such.

You oughta check out the Texans' message board and the board at houstonprofootball.com. Half the posters are mouth-breathers who blame everything short of ethnic cleansing and the AIDS epidemic on Carr. Texans win and Carr throws for 150 yards? "Carr didn't do enough." Carr throws for 300 yards but they lose? "Carr lost the game!" It's a freakin' joke. I pity any QB the Texans have because he won't live up to most of these idiots' version of a football God: Vince Young.

I don't go near the Texans' message board for fear of my IQ dropping a few points.

As much as I love Houston (born an raised)... we're a fuckin fickle ass city that at times, makes LA seem more of a "team" city than we are.

Rockets are putting together a good run in the NBA.. do you see anyone show up to the games? Hell no.

Astros start winning a stretch of games.. anyone showing up to Minute Maid? Nope.. well, unless Roger's pitching.

..if we trade David... and that's "IF".. then I'd hope we'd get a couple of picks for him to help us shore up the O-Line and maybe use a pick on another DE or an LB to get Kailee Wong the hell off the Texans. If we're going to keep him.. then.. as much as I hate to think that we'd have to burn such a high pick on an OL-men.. well.. so be it. The guy needs a line to protect him and to help out whatever RB du jour trots out onto the field for the day. Even if we had Vince Young, the guy would've gotten killed behind our pourous line and the reactions to our losses would be worse.

Only thing that I blame Carr for is his inconsistencies in the passing game. One play he'll nail a wide out in perfect stride and the next, he'll just lob it up for a DB to snatch up. Of course, I'm sure some of that same blame has to go to our coordinators for not giving Carr much slack on the leash before they just have him hand the ball off and dink n dunk the ball for 3-4 yds every play..

I hope Millen trades the farm for Carr, so the Bears can kill him for a change.

Isn't Carolina thinking of looking for a new QB to phase Delhomme out? Quite frankly, Carr deserves to play with a real line and Houston obviously has no plan to provide him with one.

I think he could be great for Green Bay.

Im hoping Michael Bush, RB Louisville or Tony Hunt, RB Penn State are available when their pick comes around in the rd 1 or 2.

I want Darrelle Revis. If Ted Ginn enters the draft, I'd like for the Jags to have a receiver with his speed.
