Now people are just rewriting the story to fit their point of view.

 

I don't see the part where it says the guys were followed back to their car by a guy they saw had a gun,or the guy stood in front of them, blocking their escape.

An undercover officer walked closely behind Bell and his friends as they headed for their car. As he walked toward the front of the vehicle, they drove forward -- striking him and a nearby undercover police vehicle.

In other words, someone--probably the police--are saying they did in fact identify themselves. In other words, we don't know if they did or didn't based on the story.

And I will give you the benifit of the doubt...this officer who was also the first one to open fire never once showed that he had a gun when following them to the car. fine. They just decided they had to leave very quickly for no reason.

I never said the police did the right thing. I just wanted to remind people that this man who tragically died was not entirely innocent, and there are facts you have to overlook before you can say this was entirely the police's fault.

Simple automotive mechanics.

 

The car has a steering wheel that allows the driver to point the car in a direction other than directly forward. The steering wheel can allow the car to move forward at an angle, either left or right depending on the direction that the wheel is turned. If a steering wheel is turned counter-clockwise, the car can move at an angle to the left. If a steering wheel is turned clockwise, the car can move at an angle to the right.

All Superjerk is saying is that the police had a genuine reason to be suspicious of this person(s) to begin with. No one is disputing that the cops really screwed up awfully here. But this isn't a clear cut and dry case of "oh, they were black, so the cops automatically opened fired on them without reason".

One relevant part:

 

The shooting on Saturday unfolded in a flash. An undercover officer posted inside the Club Kalua, a site of frequent drug, weapon and prostitution complaints in Jamaica, overheard an exchange between a stripper and a man that led the officer to suspect the man was armed, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said on Saturday. The undercover officer alerted the officers acting as backup outside — there were seven officers in all — about 4 a.m., setting into motion the events to follow later.

 

Eight men left the club and argued briefly with another man, with one from the group saying, “Yo, get my gun,” Mr. Kelly said.

 

Which if true, it does give the cops a reason to be suspicious.

 

The police version of the story seems to be this:

 

A person familiar with the case who knows the detectives’ version of events said yesterday that it was Mr. Guzman who asked for his gun, and that the first undercover detective on foot clearly identified himself to the occupants of the car and, gun drawn, told them to get out. Instead, the person said, they roared toward him. That detective fired the first shot.

 

The news article gives an interesting point, a former cop says that in a situation like that if one cop starts firing at someone, the other cops just automatically react and assume that the first cop had reason to shoot, so they will shooting as well. The facts are still fuzzy here but this may have been a situation where one cop got freaked and started firing, and the rest automatically assumed that the first cop had good reason to fire and joined in.

 

I heard from somewhere that some of the victims may have had criminal records but I don't know if that's just a rumor or not.

I think this is important for a few reasons.

 

1: Eyewitness that was extremely close says that there was no warning about who they were.

 

2: Now everyone knows they were leaving with a stripper.

 

3. I got to see "No nothing." in a sentence.

 

 

Once again, undercover plainclothes guy pulls his gun and a unmarked van pulls up. In a BAD neighborhood. That is how a robbery goes down. Some guy follows you from a strip club and pulls a gun and a van pulls up. That is a jacking. The dudes were scared, and tried to get out of there. simple as that.

Let's review:

-Group is partying at 4 am and gets into argument.

-Guy in group says he has a gun.

-Other guy hits a police officer with his car and drives off.

-Same car hits a police van TWICE and keeps driving.

- White cops encounter group of rowdy negroes and instantly become nervous

 

While it is tragic that he lost his life, this man was not an innocent victim.

In regards to the bolded part ... I've heard that it was a group of multiracial cops, including non-whites. Methinks that this doesn't have to be a black-v-white thing.

 

And how long do you guys think it takes to rattle off 50 shots, when it's at least 7 or so cops doing the shooting? Maybe a minute? It's not like this was a long, drawn-out shootout over the course of an hour.

But yeah, this isn't so much as a terrible race thing as it is a terrible thing period because two cops were black, two were white and one was hispanic.
