I think the worst part of this movie (aside from the obvious) is that instead of having a wise-cracking black dude to help him out McLane recruits the fucking Apple bitch. He'll no doubt pull a wacky scheme with his iBook that allows him and McLane to escape a sticky situation.

I know the line "I'm gonna kill them all and get my daughter, or i'm gonna get my daughter and kill them all, or i'll just kill everybody" (or whatever, I'm paraphrasing sorta) is one horrible horrible line.

I watched all 3 Die Hard movies in the past month and I gotta say that Die Hard 2 is definatley the weakest one but it's still a solid action movie. Dennis Franz was good. The lack of Al Powell upset me though.

The early reviews of the movie say that it's cut pretty poorly to accomodate the PG-13 rating. People will be talking and their words don't match the movement of their lips and the real icing on the cake is

instead of McClane's trademark line, he says "Yippie Ki Yay mother..." and before he finishes, he shoot a guy in the face.

It's like someone who has never heard of the Die Hard series is in charge of what happens to the film.

I can't wait to run out and get my John McClane action figure with the special jet playset. Hopefully he comes with a kicking action instead of a weak punching one.

To try and turn away from the Benoit story if I may

 

I saw this tonight and I didn't really have too much of a problem with it. It's certainly not on the level of the past films in the series, but it's a good summer action flick. Things explode, people get shot, and lots of crazy action shit happens. It's certainly not Shakespeare, but it works well for what it is. The PG-13 rating wasn't THAT much of a hindrance, it's just missing some blood and some profanity, that's all. It's still a good film regardless. I give it a B

I really enjoyed it. It's the perfect summer popcorn flick and Bruce was great.

 

There are a few scenes where they obviously dubbed things over, but the PG-13 really wasn't that bad. Fun flick

Really fun movie and a nice compliment to the series. It didn't feel too much like other modern action flicks, which is a good thing. No wire-fu, slow motion karate fights or excessive amount of CGI. Just good old action.

 

Smith's cameo wasn't very funny.

I agree with Bob, the PG-13 rating isn't that bad at all. I didn't go into this threaduntil after I watched the movie so I didn't know really anything about the editing. After I saw the movie I came into this thread and started reading about the editing and then a few certain scenes dawned on me that those certain scenes might have been edited but I didn't even realize it until I came into this thread.

The thing is, how much money do they think Die Hard movies are going to make? The first 3 did very well for themselves while being rated R. What good does a PG-13 rating do here? I remember seeing that in the late 60s and through the 70s there would be different versions of movies. For instance if you want to see the PG version of Saturday Night Fever, it's out in theaters. If you want the R version, you could see that too.

 

I did enjoy this movie today and found it very exciting, but the whole time it did feel very watered down compared to the previous 3. Here it was like I kept waiting for Willis to scream profanities during fights, or rant and rave in hilarious fashion but due to the rating it never happened. Also a sad lack of blood compared to the first 3. It does have the most diabolical heel in the series though with the most ambitious scheme.

 

If I had to rank them I would go as thus:

 

1. Die Hard

2. Die Hard with a Vengeance

3. Live Free or Die Hard

4. Die Hard 2

I agree with pretty much everyone here, with it being a decent summer action flick but not at the level of the other four.

 

My biggest problem was not the PG-13, but the crummy villain. Alan Rickman, William Sadler & Jeremy Irons had a real presence in their respective films and were easily credible foils to Bruce Willis, but I never bought this new guy as being a true challenge. His scheme is ambitious, but the performance is more whiny than threatening. Hell, he can't even standup to McClane's daughter let alone the man himself. He is the weakest part of the movie by far.
