HarleyQuinn Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 I think Belichick will be smart and find a way to not only limit LT (he limited the Bills offense in SB 25 and the Rams offense incl. Faulk in SB 36) but he'll have Bruschy/Vrabel manned up on Gates the whole game, limiting his presence. The Patriots O-Line is underrated and underestimated, IMO. They'll do well to limit the pass rush and Brady/Belichick will have the design formatted to get rid of the ball quickly on three step drops to beat the blitzes/pass rush. Dillon and Maroney can both wear down a defense as well, and can be kept fresh while the other does their work on the field. My score: Patriots 27, Chargers 20.

The Bills, who scored 95 points in their previous two playoff games leading to Super Bowl XXV, had the ball for less than eight minutes in the second half and just 19:27 for the game. Considering the offense only scored 17 points and went 1/8 on third down conversions, I think he did a pretty damn good job. Unless your contension is that he wasn't responsible for the defense.

Sheppard dislocated his elbow Sunday and will be replaced by nickel corner Rod Hood. - Eagles site NOT GOOD Also, this is Stallworth's first game against his former team. He missed the one earlier in the season.

Both live when I was 7, and afterwards when I was older just to torture myself. Infact, the offense should have been even worse with Lofton's lucky tip catch early in the game. But, whatever.
Slayer Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 While on the phone last night with Fridge, discussing the upcoming Pats-Chargers game, a realization hit me on how similar this game is with the game against Pittsburgh two years ago... a rookie QB sheltered by a good running game, an overrated defense, and notorious choker coach I'll admit the Pats certainly aren't as strong as they were two years ago, but I think they win this one for those same reasons

Hasselback had a few picks, receivers a few drops, Alexander basically won the game for them single-handedly. If the Bears can keep him muffled they should actually make it to the NFC championship.

The meatheads must be jumping for joy at the prospect of BEAR WEATHER. Me, I'm not so sure. On one hand, there is the poor track record. However, if this shuts down a lot of the passing game and narrows things down to a <100% Alexander against Jones & Benson, then that bodes well. Plus, games in snow look cool.

Ravens 31, Colts 17: The Chiefs slowed down the Colts on offense, so unless Peyton really steps it up, it's going to get a lot worse against Baltimore. The Ravens also have a more balanced offense. I expect Air McNair to lead the charge and the Ravens' offense won't look like a bunch of incompetent goons like KC. The Ravens have the edge on offense, and can keep things close on defense. If they force some timely turnovers, this game could get really ugly. Saints 31, Eagles 21: I like the Saints offense to put up some good numbers, especially in the passing game. With Lito Sheppard out, Drew Brees could have some big plays down the field. That should open up some space for the McAllister/Bush combo to pile up some yards as well.The Saints D is passable and should be able to keep the Eagles from scoring an unreasonable number of points. I say the Jeff Garcia nightmare finally ends. Seahawks 24, Bears 10: My ridiculous pick of the week. Like many, I'm not sold on the Bears. The offense is weak, and the Seahawks have enough talent to put up some points on the Bears D. Though inconsistent, Seattle's D isn't too bad, and is certainly capable of shutting down Rex Grossman. Patriots 23, Chargers 20: These two teams are very evenly matched. Both bring a good defense to the table. SD has the edge in the running game, but New England is better off in the passing department, especially at the QB position. Special teams are a push. With these teams putting equally talented teams on the field, it's going to come down to how they are used. With that I look to coaching. I see playoff Schottenheimer vs. Playoff Bellicheck. I'll take the Pats.

"They're high on themselves right now," Patriots wide receiver Jabar Gaffney said. "They have every right to be, being 14-2, had a great season. (But) they don't even know us. All the people they know on the team is Brady and Reche, so we've got to show them who we are."

Well this is coming from a crappy backup NT and a sparingly used crappy backup WR so take that for what it's worth. I think the pats are in some trouble to be honest. Vrabel is the only LB who could even remotely cover Gates and as of yesterday he could barely move with his bad back. The D-Line MIGHT be able to stuff LT for a good portion of the game if they try to run up the gut but let's face it, it's LT. The thing the pats absolutely NEED to do is win the Turnover battle big. Force Rivers to make mistakes and go for the ball when LT carries. Brady, if his line plays like it did last week, could throw all day against the SD secondary but they are definitely not going to be able to run up the gut against that front 7.
