devo 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 The Midwest Bowl! This is going to be one hell of a game with both teams playing as good as they have all year. Of course, the story over the next couple weeks is going to be "Does Rex '0.0 and 1.9" Grossman stand a chance against Peyton Manning and the Colts? OUR EXPERT PANEL WILL TELL YOU NEXT." I foresee a Bears victory. They kicked all kinds of ass today against a team pretty darn similar to the Colts.

It was the first thing they asked the winning teams, the first thing they noted and already talked about it in the pre-games. Aside from the Manning "History @ the Big Game" and Rex's "issues", this will be the BIGGEST story for the next two weeks.

Guest "Go, Mordecai!" Report post Posted January 22, 2007 I feel sooooo much better about Bears-Colts than Bears-Patriots. This is a game that can certainly be won. It'll be interesting to see how well the fanbases travel. Hopefully we have a mostly Bear crowd.

At least over the past 10 years. I guess I'm a dumbass for not being excited over a champion with A) an embarrassing rush defense, or B) a team starting Rex Grossman that's looked mediocre since they virtually clinched NFC home field in October. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 I'm probably going to be more excited about this SuperBowl than any since Green Bay-Denver. Could be a fantastic game, there will be plenty to hype even without NOLA stuff, you got a huge market with Chicago and a superstar in Manning, and a great D vs an explosive O with both teams looking really good in the Championship games. And todays AFC title game deserves a spot in NFL lore.

Guest Smues Report post Posted January 22, 2007 2nd comment down DONT READ THIS! In 1987 there was a murder spree in Chile. 18 children and 25 women all brutally raped and murdered. These murders are unsolved and the one who committed the atrocities became known as Chicanarney. Now 20 years later there have been more mysterious deaths, all committed in the same fashion as the earlier ones. If you've read this, you or someone you love will be attacked by this being within 13 days. For protection you must send this to 6 other videos before your time is up. Just John 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 Oh come on, this is miles ahead of Steelers-Seawhats. Both of those teams were actually playing at the top of their game going in. The actual game didn't really deliver (except for me because I'm a Steelers fan), but there's a wide quality gap in the teams. The 05 Steelers and Seahawks would wipe the floor with the 06 Bears and Colts.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 Yes, this game tonight is one of the best games of all time, or at least it could be if the Colts go on and finish it in Miami. Sure, the Bears kicked the crap out of the Saints today but let's face it: The Saints were a 10-6 overachieving team. Hell, even Kerry Collins had his great day with the Giants against the Vikings to get to the Super Bowl in a rout that one time. Honestly, I see this Super Bowl ending up as a major anticlimax. One of two things will happen: 1) The Colts are severely hung over after this one and have nothing left, thus the Bears run it down their throats and cruise to a 31-14 type win. 2) Grossman goes against the league's #2 rated pass defense (yes, the Colts rushing D sucks but the pass D is actually solid) and tosses about 4 INTs. Colts win it like 45-20 in a game echoing the Bucs/Raiders Super Bowl.

naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 Endy Chavez made one of the best catches in postseason history against the Cards in Game 7 of the NLCS. . . and it didn't matter because his team still lost. If the Colts get blown out by Chicago it makes today a nice little game that ultimately meant nothing. However, if it leads to Peyton finally getting his ring it takes on an even greater historical significance given that he overcame all of the odds, got the monkey off of his back and a dozen other sports cliches. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 Endy's bank account would disagree with you on how much that catch mattered.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 So, how much does Tom Brady's "Comeback Kid' stock fall after we saw how he handled a late drive when a touchdown, not just a field goal, was necessary?
naiwf 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 I'd say none. He still has 3 rings and 2 SB MVPs. Now if he throws a season ending pick in a tight playoff game next year, that's when his stock plummets.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 The Colts have a shitty run defense, but have at least shown that they can make some big stops when they need to. The Bears have a very good defense, but I can't help believe that their medicore offense is going to need a ton of breaks in order to score enough to beat the Colts. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 The outcome of the Super Bowl makes all the difference in the world. I'd say the 1982 Niners/Cowboys game is legendary because the Niners won it and then also beat the Bengals to win the Super Bowl. If the Bengals win that game 26-21 though? It'd still be a great game, but not quite as great. Sure, Denver/Cleveland was also a major game for Elway, but since the Broncos just got squashed anyway in the Super Bowl it takes a bit off of it. I'm amazed that anyone thinks the Super Bowl won't draw massive, insane ratings. That aforementioned Niners/Bengals game is the highest rated SB of all time, mainly due to the amazing playoffs leading up to it (Dallas/SF in the NFC, and the crazy Miami/SD game in the AFC before SD lost to Cincy). Funny that the Colts are being compared to the Cardinals now, since St. Louis was a team reeling into the playoffs but somehow put it together. Both teams played astounding league title series (Cardinals vs. Mets, Colts vs. Pats) and ended up facing a team that had just steamrolled someone en route to the big game (Tigers smashed the Yankees and Oakland, Bears just mauled the Saints). I wonder, will Rex Grossman end up being like the Tigers pitching staff?
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 Yeah. Nobody ever talks about The Drive. Or Indy's just-missed hail mary that sent the Steelers to Super Bowl 30. Or the Falcons upset win over the Vikings in 1998/9.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 Well sure people still talk about the Drive, but it sorta takes a bit off of it when Denver just got killed by the Giants in the Super Bowl.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 (edited) I won't bother to find the post where I brought up the 2004 Red Sox. Famous last words because New England essentially pulled off the football version of the 2004 ALCS. What an embarassment by that defense. Using the "San Diego beat us up" excuse doesn't fly because the Colts played the friggin' RAVENS last week and it didn't seem to effect them too much tonight. This exposes the linebacking corps as having lost a step and are getting too old to be effective. Still, you're telling me that Dillon or Maroney couldn't have converted a 3rd and 4 against a rush D that they had some success on instead of McDaniels pulling a Billick and calling this: 3-4-NE 46 (2:30) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass incomplete short right to 80-T.Brown (21-B.Sanders). If McDaniels accepts the Raiders job, I'll drive him to the airport myself because he did the SAME EXACT thing in the first game in basically abandoning the running game and trying to make it a shootout (Belichick deserves some of the blame as well, but Josh is the O-Coordinator). This is WITH A FIFTEEN FUCKING POINT LEAD, too!! Perhaps the Colts would have stiffened up, but that kills the clock and lets the defense get a bit of a damn breather. Peyton played his ass off and deserved it, but at the same time, geez, what a fucking chokejob. EDIT: I gotta say, the Bears D may have found it's fastball again, so this SuperBowl matchup has me intrigued. If Grossman can pull his head out of his ass, this'll be a closer game than everyone thinks. Edited January 22, 2007 by KingPK
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2007 I think the Bears today were fool's gold to some degree. The Saints were a dome team playing in shitty weather (sound familiar?) and good grief they put the ball on the ground so many times it wasn't funny. Just stupid shit like fumbling the kickoff, or Brees having it taken away for no real reason other than they were sucking today. Let's not kid ourselves...the Saints weren't too amazing. The Ravens, Bengals, and Steelers all whipped the Saints this year and 2 of those weren't even playoff teams. Even so, they were moving the ball today against the Bears but every time they did they would blow it by fumbling or something equally foolish. That said, I'd advise the Colts to jump out on the Bears in this game. If the Bears get any sort of lead they will no doubt pack it in and run the clock, no way in hell would they dare throw it with Grossman at that point.
