Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Oh for goodness sake... One of the commercials for our Fox news station has the IMPORTANT topic of some fan going on a hunger strike over Sanjaya's singing. This mentioned right after a story about a polar bear cub. Hey, an "Oliver!" song. Interesting. But Melinda totally missed the point of it, dumbass.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Good lord Haley got some gams on her. More tiny pants, please.

Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Crying Girl gets to come on stage. Oh, how lovely. Award overly-exaggerated displays of fan affection. Great going, AI.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Oh fuck you all. Crying Girl is the best damn part of this show. They need to have her on every show. Like, as a guest judge to make Paula look more coherent. "YO DAWG THAT WAS THE BOMB" "That was just a shining rainbow... it was great... you are great... I love your souls heart" "It was... well... it was like I was in a bar... but this was a thai bar and a street girl came up to me and was constantly asking me if I wanted to have a good time." "WAHUHUHWHWHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 but man it was all so hokey...so fake...you didn't get that vibe? Meat, what the fuck you doin here, you hate this show!
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 It's American Idol. This is like swimming in the ocean and saying "Well, this part is a bit wet".
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 yeah, but that really takes the cake...along with Simon and Ryan's raised levels of homoerotism compared to past seasons.

Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Woah, Sligh gave a blatant shoutout to VFTW... Stupid fuck. He might even kicked off for that, but probably just get buried by the AI folk. And VFTW isn't even going to choose him anyway...
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Not as the worst, but some of the VFTW people might vote for him along with Sanjay
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Okay, I'm surprised no one has mentioned this but what was up with those song choices? To me stuff like Shirley Bassey is hell and gone from British Invasion. I know she is from Wales technically and had albums that happened to be in the 1960s, but she is hardly BRITISH INVASION. Further, Diamonds Are Forever isn't even a song from the 60s, it was from 1971. I had a similar problem with Phil doing Tobacco Road. I checked and the Nashville Teens were in fact English, but that song is really American. And doing Oliver songs? WTF? I swear they had no concept of what is actually British Invasion. As long as the singer or song had some vague 1960s connection to the U.K. it was fair game. I was pleasantly surprised to see The Zombies have 2 songs on the show though. But no Animals?? No Beatles at all? Gina did do the Stones and was pretty crappy on Paint It Black, probably her worst outing yet. Girls cannot do Stones, it just doesn't work at all. Until now Gina has mostly stayed with songs by female rock singers and she's fared well. As far as who is gone, I guess either Sanjaya or Phil. Haley is improving and showing all sorts of leg, so she better be safe for now!
Hawk 34 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 I was saying weeks ago that Haley would easily break through the rounds on looks alone. With all the guys being total ass and the counter-act of the black singers, Haley could easily sneak into the top five.

Haley is improving and showing all sorts of leg, so she better be safe for now! obviously, they couldn't get the rights. as i understand it, the only beatles song that ever got performed on AI was when taylor hicks did "something," and that isn't in the northern songs (lennon/mccartney) catalog. and they probably got into some legal scuffling with that even, or just said something like "if we only let contestants sing george harrison songs it's just gonna look weird, so we'll just take the beatles off the table." or, no one this week wanted to do a harrison song. so how fucking embarrassing is it when you're doing a show focused all around the british invasion and you can't sing any lennon/mccartney songs? and you have a tremendous amount of talent being represented in that period, & the best you can do for a special guest is peter noone and lulu? this just makes the whole show seem bush league. it made for a horrible and boring choice of songs from almost everybody, & made that whole period sound like a shitfest. who, when hearing the words "think of a british invasion song to sing," thinks "oh! i'll do 'tobacco road'!" or "oh! i'll do a song from 'oliver!'!" even gina, the one most suited for this period, chose the wrong stones song. "paint it black" only sounds like a great song when it's done a very specific way...they at least got the booming drums right, but it was just way too polished and not dark or edgy enough. "paint it black" is exactly the kind of song whose greatness you cannot duplicate in any way on AI. do "time is on my side," or "you can't always get what you want," or "heart of stone"...ANYTHING but "paint it black." this SHOULD'VE been a great week with great songs, and it turned into a mess. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Eh, I personally still thought it was better than the Ross stuff from last week. In some cases allowing the Bassey songs was probably a good idea, since the black chicks at least had something to do that would be decent. It just doesn't fit the theme. Why not do a Bond song theme? Speaking of Lulu, I could have sworn that someone would do The Man With the Golden Gun. And hopefully been eliminated the next night. You pretty much hit the nail on the head there. I've yet to hear the Stones version of the song - though, out of curiosity sake, I may give it a listen - but even I knew they totally destroyed the song. Gina was all for this gothic-rocker version but it was so completely out of tune with the melody, which was more light and 70ish. The two didn't mesh at all, and it's not entirely Gina's fault. Luckily for her, in two weeks it won't be remembered.
godthedog 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 well...a lot of it IS her fault. A, she chose the song. B, she fucked up the melody on almost every line. i understand what she was trying to do, the song has a really simple melody that doesn't show off your voice very well & she wanted to clear some space to show it off. but when you go UP instead of DOWN at the end of every line, you destroy the whole tone of the song. the 'american idol'-ingrained desire to turn the melody into a swirling crescendo veers you way off from the descending melody line that makes the song bluesy & dark & interesting. it's a terrible mistake that tells you she doesn't know what the song is about. Jason223_ThePit 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 That's what Randy meant by "pitchy".
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 But "Pitchy" means consisting of or relating to a dark, tarry substance, or to be a very dark shade of black (ie: pitch black)

C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 Okay, just watched the Today show where they talked about how Sanjaya turned it around. He was balls. He's always balls. His balls made a little girl cry. He needs to be gone, or else the show turns into a freakshow instead of a competition. Everyone else was kind of boring to me, except for Gina who murdered Paint It Black.
Mik 0 Report post Posted March 21, 2007 I haven't really been posting in this thread because this season is so uninspiring to me. Hayley is a second rate McPhee to me in terms of sex appeal. I like Chris Sligh but he isn't exactly awesome. Melinda is a great singer but she's so unfortunate looking that it's hard for me to buy it. Lakisha seems to be getting worse each week. I think it's possible that "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" ends up being her high point. The two JT wannabes piss me off. Blake's "Time of the Season" pissed me off last night with the gay ass beat boxing mixed in between the verses but the judges slurped it up. I don't know. This is probably my least favorite season yet. Even worse then Fantasia and Diana Degarmo. By the way, did you guys see what I assumed was Sanjaya's lady last night sitting next to his mother? Jesus christ. I don't feel bad for the kid at all.
