I don't think that will end up anything major but Reggie Bush needs to get the fuck away from the program. He's making us look bad. No one else is having anything said about them but him......seriously Reggie if you wanted to take benefits or whatever fine but don't fuck up shit now that you're gone.

Also why is yahoo obessed with USC.....it's like they're trying to fuck up USC purposely.

This story didn't come from Yahoo Sports doing an in-depth investigation this time...

It came from the public statements made by Joe McKnight, his HS coach JT Curtis, and Pete Carroll, which are now being spin-doctored a new way every time they talk to the press. The story is getting play from every major sports outlet and I haven't seen one of them say Yahoo was the original source on this.

The statements by McKnight in particular were carried live on ESPN and WWL TV (New Orleans), which is why JT Curtis is now trying to claim that McKnight pulled the story out of his ass after being asked "a thousand questions at once".

In this particular case, Reggie isn't the problem as much as Pete Carroll is.

*IF* things happened as McKnight stated publically, Carroll freakin' knew better than to let McKnight have contact with Reggie, direct or indirect, and yet he did it anyway.

That would be a recruiting violation by USC that would cost them some scholarships at the least and probably McKnight as well.

The rules are retarded in the first place.

I'm not too worried about McKnight anyway since the rest of the recruiting class is so good, but honestly. The kid probably just wanted to know more about the program when he talked to Reggie.

Definitly.

Seriously, what 18 year old wouldn't want to talk to Reggie Bush? This is as bad as "you cant get a discount on shoes even though you make us millions of dollars." The NCAA can be such a joke sometimes.

The rule is fine. Only employees and current players should be allowed to help the school recruit. It's almost an extension of the booster safety net that the NCAA installed. No way in hell should alumni players be allowed to help the school's recruit players and convince them to go to any school. If this happened, Carroll probably realized the MOST they would get hit with is a 2 year probation NEXT season and Pete would probably make a run for the border well before the ruling came down.

The rules may or may not be stupid, but breaking them will land you in a world of shit if the NCAA feels like taking up the case.

On top of that, the specific reason given for contacting Reggie was that Carroll wanted to put the kid's mind at rest over possible NCAA sanctions on USC for what Reggie did.

The ironic thing is that, by breaking the rules involving boosters and recruits, Carroll may have put the entire team on probation to get this one kid.

The big thing I'll reiterate is that *Reggie* isn't the problem if this blows up in USC's face. The problem is that Carroll fucked up if this causes problems, as from all indications Carroll called Reggie to do this and not the other way around.

Leave the hyperbole off the keyboard, 2gold. This rule, like so many others enforced by this organization, is lame.

Sorry, disagree. If the school can't land the kid with their own staff and players, they don't deserve to sign him. If they couldn't convince him they weren't going to get nailed by the NCAA, they lose the prospect.

The NCAA has lots of horrible rules, this isn't one of them to me.

People also don't enjoy that USC has sustained being good so they think they must be cheating and look into all sorts of irrevelent shit. Honestly most schools break some of these rules because there's so many inane ones.

The problem is that one major violation is being accompanied by a WIDE variety of seemingly-minor violations.

Bush's family getting $300,000+ in benefits from an agent is the big one. That alone is enough to open the door and investigate other potential violations.

Dwayne Jarrett was getting most of his rent paid by Matt Leinart's father. (Amateur eligibility violation. This one was overlooked after Jarrett paid back the difference and was put through a reinstatement process)

Carroll violated the rules on using boosters to recruit by having Bush be involved in a conference call with Joe McKnight and his coach / guardian JT Curtis. (Recruiting violation. McKnight was living with Curtis at the time and contact with a player's guardian is considered contact with the player. Carroll being aware of this and not reporting it makes this potentially a huge violation.)

At least one restaurant run by USC alums in Los Angeles had been serving USC prospects for free until the NCAA told them to stop it. (Recruiting violation)

There are reports of agents having free-reign of the USC locker room and training facilities, with Bush even interning with one during a Summer break.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

If anything happens to USC, it will not be because of one single action but, rather, a death by 1000 cuts.

A multitude of minor NCAA violations can actually open up a HUGE can of worms if a case can be made that there was a Lack Of Institutional Control around the football program.

The combination of the major Bush story and a bunch of these little stories could potentially add up and give the NCAA the leeway it had to slam Alabama in the 1990s for repeated violations of NCAA rules.

In short, the original Bush story itself may have opened the door for the NCAA investigation, but whatever else they find while performing that investigation is going to be the determining factor on whether USC goes on probation and, if so, how big of a hit it takes.

Poor Tulsa, it appears Mitch Mustain is heading to USC.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2843033

Former Arkansas quarterback Mitch Mustain plans to transfer to USC in the second week of May, sources close to the quarterback said Wednesday night.

Mustain has attended USC's spring game and practices and is currently attending classes at Arkansas, where the semester ends May 8.

Mustain, considered by some the nation's top recruit before last season, enrolled at Arkansas in large part because coach Houston Nutt hired Mustain's high school coach, Gus Malzahn, as offensive coordinator.

But Arkansas didn't utilized Malzahn's no-huddle, spread offense and he left for Tulsa, where he'll be co-offensive coordinator. Mustain, who was benched at the end of last season, then announced his intention to transfer.

Arkansas won the SEC West last season and began 10-1 before losing the final three games of the season.

This week Nutt released a statement denying rumors he was pursuing other jobs and did not promptly respond to hate e-mail sent to Mustain. He also denied a rumor that he had an affair with a local television anchor.

Can someone please explain why Mustain was benched in favor of Dick after going 8-0 to begin with?

The title of the link rules. Thanks Bored, for giving me something to replace the "kid gets hit in the head with a basketball hurled from the other end of the arena" video when I need a laugh. The kid just gets wrecked here. It says a lot for the quality of pads/helmets these days as well as having padded walls around the field. Still, that kid is hardcore.

Why couldn't they give up their 2006 wins so I could pretend UW didn't lose to them?
