Carbonated drinks.

So, I grew up on drinking coke and despite the fact I'd always worked out and all that, always had a bit of a gut, and switched completely to diet (I drank both diet and regular growing up, so the switch wasn't that difficult) and dropped like, 10 pounds immediately. This was about a year or two ago.

Now I'm at a more comfortable weight and working out more regularly and all that, but I've heard that carbonation takes about 48 hours to get completely out of your system. This sounds like it'd be particularly bad for working out often, and someone else also told me it's hell on your skin as well. Anyone know if this is the truth?

As a result of that, I've been trying to drink iced tea, fruit juices, or water if there's an option for it. I've found Wendy's iced tea in particular is actually really good and brewed strong. Not a big fan of sweetened caffeinated drinks, and of course that applies to coffee which I almost always drink straight black (the only exception would be if I hadn't had anything to eat yet and won't for a bit but I need a caffeine jolt).

So what do you guys think, and what drinks do you like? If I do go carbonated, I'll drink diet coke most of the time (I absolutely loathe Pepsi, so if Pepsi products are offered, I'll just go with water). The only exception to that is if I find myself at Taco Bell and I can get Baja Blast, which is FUCKING AWESOME.

I went from only drinking coke to only drinking water to kick caffeine. Now, on the few occasions I've had caffeine since, it tastes vile.

I also felt the difference in physique and sleep a lot better now. I'm also a lot more tranquil, although I dunno if that's due to kicking it. I was also getting heart palpatations from the caffeine, which wasn't nice.

I've cut way back on my soda consumption, personally. I now have _maybe_ one soda a week, and it's usually either something like Diet Pepsi or root beer. I usually get iced tea or lemonade if I'm at a restaurant now. I definitely feel better, and I know I've lost some weight due to not having all those empty calories all the time.

If diet Iced Tea was readily available, I'd probably drink that almost exclusively, with a little V8.

It's not though, every cheap tea distributer makes tea with high fructose corn syrup. I still make myself a cup of lady grey occassionally, but it's pretty much Diet Coke for me.

Caffine helps me concentrate, I think.

Like a very weak Adderall...

I saw a test they did on that recently.

After a few weeks, the effect caffeine has on you is diminished and your natural, uncaffeinated state becomes less responsive.

If you give up caffeine, after a week when you go through withdrawl, your response rates go back to what they are after a caffeine fix.

I can't wrap my mind around what that means.

Like, what effects would carbonation have in your system, and how would it stay in your body? Carbonation isn't a discrete substance like, say, nicotine, which would travel through your bloodstream.

You down too much root beer and have a seizure right after, your asshole will explode. No joke.

Working out more but eating at Wendy's?

Does anyone know if Gatorade is actually better for you than carbonated drinks?

Gatorade is actually worse for your teeth than most soda.

I don't think I've found a Wendy's since I moved to Portland, actually. And at worst, I've eaten chicken sandwiches and salads there.

But yeah, they do have pretty good iced tea.

I've never been a fan of diet cherry coke. And I can't tell you the difference between diet and coke zero. However, Cherry Coke Zero is brilliant. It tastes good, has the burn, and, well tastes good. It's not syrupy.

I think it depends on your neighborhood. I live in SW Downtown, and hang out around the Pearl/NW 23rd, and sometimes close to Mississippi/Alberta and Belmont/Hawthorne. I did find one up in North Portland once, so I guess I lied, but looking at Wendy's store locator, there's none really in my vicinity. All I know of, of major fast food chains, is a 24 hour Taco Bell and 24 hour McDonald's on W Burnside. There's several other places, restaurants and fast food, open late that make those places expendable.

Hell, we've got pizza that delivers until 4am. Healthy and vegetarian, too. Fuck a Wendy's.

Man, A&W root beer sucks. Only Mug is worse. I've always been a Barq's guy. I remember Dad's being decent. I've heard great things about Dog-N-Suds root beer, but I've had trouble finding it in grocery stores.

While not a huge root beer fan, A&W does have that vanilla cream stuff. However, I never could drink a full can since the novelty of the flavor wears off about halfway through and then just kind of tastes gross in how sweet it is.

The only root beer I could ever really get into was Root Beer Stand (in house only) and that is strictly local but as far as national brands are concerned, if given a choice, I'll always take Barq's. Although, IBC was a favorite as a child. I don't think I've had that in awhile. I brought a pack of Ale 8 tonight but I'll grab some IBC after I finish it off.
