This week in the NBA

Nice dunk...meh. would have won it for him on his first couple tries.

Gerald...How is that all 10's? Shenanigans...

Good win though :)

Please, for the love of God let Green win in regulation so we don't get Nate missing ~10 dunks part III next year.

I'm glad he won, but that wasn't a 50. These judges are retards.

Nate tried something too difficult. Green did well, his first dunk was probably the best, but Nate screwing up saved him from attempting anything too difficult.

So THAT gets all ten's but Howard's didn't get shit? RIIIIGHHHTT.

Impressive dunk but the finals was lame.

Exactly, everyone in the contest could probably have done that last dunk. I don't think anyone else in the league does Howard's as high as he did his.

Howard's dunk was creative, but one he's 6'11, and two he has long ass arms. I think Green could've done that maybe, he does get up pretty high.

I'd say the top dunks were Greens first, Nate's first, and Dwight's 2nd.

It's not the Sprite High Jump. It's the slam dunk contest. Give Howard credit for his jump and creativity, but the dunk wasn't that impressive.

Green basically did the same dunk twice in the competition, jumping over Nate and then the table, the off the side of the backboard dunk was an easier version of Iguodala's float under the backboard dunk, and the over the backboard pass was the hard part of what amounted to a regular two handed dunk. There's nothing he did there that will be remembered for originality, creativity or execution. At this point in the game I'd rather reward something I've never seen.

Jumping over Nate was an homage to Dee Brown w/ the arm over the eyes. I don't know how you missed that, what with the jersey, shoes, etc. The table was different b/c it was a lot farther back than Nate. The over the backboard was pretty mediocre, but the side of the backboard was by no means easy.

Gotta disagree with you. His Dee Brown look alike dunk was sick because he did everything down to the Reebok Pumps and retro jersey. Showmanship is everything and then when Nate played along it made it that much better.

That's why everyone, including the announcers were upset that Howard got no love on his sticker dunk. Does anyone know what he wrote on it?

Jumping over Nate wasn't that impressive whether he was emulating Dee Brown or not since Thomas jumped over a bigger guy, caught it and threw it down lefty in the 1st round. The table dunk was from about the same spot as Howard's first dunk which was just as forceful and got about 7 or 8 points less. Again, nothing Green did was all THAT impressive.

I was torn on that part of the dunk. Classy move by Nate, but I kinda wanted Gerald to dunk over a cardboard cutout.

If Green can clear the cardboard cutout without moving it or knocking it over, THAT's a 50.

Howard's dunk wasn't "OMG BEST DUNK EVER~" material or anything, but it should have been enough to make the finals. The judges really took me out of the contest, that was ridiculous. I think the last 50 was given just so someone got a 50, not really because the dunk was outstanding or anything.

Howard's dunk was neat and got a laugh out of me, but what was all that crazy about it? It was cute, but like someone else said he's 6-11 with long-ass arms and mad ups, the fact that the actual dunk was so basic kept it from going over the top.

And really, the sticker wasn't that high up. The TNT guys were overselling it as being at the top of the backboard when it was a good few inches short of it. Cool dunk, but nothing to get all indignant or worked up over that he didn't score better.

Green and Robinson had the best combined rds 1/2, they deserved to be in the finals.

And Green's Dee Brown tribute was sick. The difficulty level of jumping over someone and then blindfolding yourself in mid-air was greater than that of any other dunk attempted. And, he actually covered up through the dunk, Dee Brown peeked :P

But don't you think there's a certain degree of difficulty in trying to finish an oop and slap a sticker high up on the board at the same time?

Nate's dunks weren't all that hard. A one-handed toss dunk, and taking it out of Lee's hands and doing a 180. If he's 6 inches taller, those dunks don't get him to the finals.

There is, but only to a slight degree. Catching the ball with one hand and slapping the backboard with the other, that's just basic coordination, it doesn't take a special talent to be able to use both hands at the same time. Most guys couldn't get that high up with the slap, but again, he's a huge dude with huge wingspan and a huge vert. It just didn't have that something extra in the actual slam to put it over the top from being a neat idea to a great dunk in my eyes. It scored on creativity and the kitsch of slapping a sticker with his mug on the backboard, not on difficulty. If it's just the slap without the sticker nobody is talking about it. I'm not taking anything away from it, it was neat, I just don't see where Howard got jobbed on the score

As for Nate and his height, it's a moot point, he isn't 6 inches taller, and that's why his dunks are "all that hard". If Dwight Howard was 6 inches shorter and did his dunk it would have been fucking mind blowing. Of course Nate's dunks would be easier/less impressive if he was taller, but he isn't, and they aren't. That's just the nature of the beast, smaller dudes throwing down will always have an "unfair advantage" in contests.

I didn't think the statue of liberty one with Lee was all that great, I thought the judges overrated it, but I wouldn't have scored it any worse than Howard's dunk. Nate's first dunk was fucking sick though, just for where he jumped from, and the extension with where he had to reach back to grab it. Major style points for that one.

I don't think Howard got jobbed at all on his big dunk. Yeah he got the sticker 12'6 up on the backboard, but the guy is 7 feet tall. He's 7 feet and his arms have to be at least another 3. A two and a half foot vertical is good, but not super-duper exceptional at the NBA level. When Nate Robinson jumps 3 feet, he barely gets the ball over the rim, but everyone wants to give Dwight a 50 for doing the same thing? Come on.

And I loved the judges this year. MJ as the "Russian judge" was great. I'm glad they didn't whore out 10's all over the place (until that last one) like they do every other year. While this dunk contest was better than last year, none of these dunks were perfect 50's. It's good to see judges being honest for a change.

I kinda agree. While the sticker thing was kinda neat, he is 7 foot, and the height/sticker had nothing to do with the actual dunk. This woulda scored better I think had the judges not been dunk-contest-winners-of-the-past.

I also think it was good the judges weren't handing out high scores (though the last dunk wasn't a 50, I think at that point they decided "ok Green is the winner" and pushed his score up higher to end it).

My favorite dunk was the Pierce to Green off the side of the board.

This game has been fairly entertaining thus far, but 24 hours of Law & Order after the game? Fuck yeah I'm there.

funny sequence with Lebron. He all of a sudden got the urge to take like 3 or 4 straight shots for the East. that little ball-hog stint included a horribly botched attempt at backboard-dunk, and an airball 3. Nice coaching move by EJ pulling him.
