NoCalMike Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 I dunno if this deserves it's own thread, but fuck it..... http://www.dreadcentral.com/index.php?name...bctid=507831569
Insanity Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Romero tarnished his rep as the king of this genre. Land of the Dead was so bad and the only thing I'll ever remember from it is that stupid ending. "Hey there's zombies who are going to kill people, we could easily take out that group and save lives" "No let's just fucking spare them for no reason whatsoever." I might see this if I hear good things from people. I ain't doing it based on his name anymore.
Youth N Asia Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Land of the Dead was baaaad. I'll definaly give Romero another shot...he's George fucking Romero after all. Land's ending was piss poor. When they dude's like "just let them go, they're looking for a home," I was thinking...you know they're going to eat people along the way, right?
Ripper Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Well, there weren't many people left right? Yeah, its sad that I thought the Dawn remake was lightyears better than land. Not good at all.
Gary Floyd Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I must be the only guy who liked Land. Granted, it's not as good as the other three, but I still like it.
NoCalMike Posted March 2, 2007 Author Report Posted March 2, 2007 Yeah, by the time Land of the Dead is made, Mankind is the minority, and confined to small cities that are barracaded in. It's not likely there is much for the zombies to eat outside of these cities.
BlackFlagg Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I liked Land, yeah the ending was quite meh, but I liked it overall...quite frankly I don't think it was possible for it to live up to the expectations
luke-o Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I didnt mind it at all. Granted it wasnt as good as the other three but it was certainly better than the pile of arse that was the dawn remake.
Youth N Asia Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I didnt mind it at all. Granted it wasnt as good as the other three but it was certainly better than the pile of arse that was the dawn remake. Well, I suppose if you're on crack that statement makes sense
Epic Reine Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 I thought Land was pretty good but to this day, I cannot understand how anyone could like the terrible 2004 Dawn remake. Absolutley atrocious.
Gary Floyd Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 The Dawn remake, while not as good as the original, is the best of the recent horror remakes, and one of the best horror remakes ever made. It's really best if you don't think of it as a remake as much, and think of it more as it's own movie, IMO.
dubq Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Zombie fact number one: Zombies do not run. Let's not all get into this one again, okay?
Secret Agent Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 So Romero wants to direct a comedy with zombies? Shaun of the Dead 2?
In Credible Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Those zombies were a hell of a lot scarier when they were running and screaming.
luke-o Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 But it felt more like 28 days later with those zombies. It just didnt sit right with me. Thats all im saying.
luke-o Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Then call them the infected. Dont call them zombies.
Coffin Surfer Posted March 5, 2007 Report Posted March 5, 2007 Ugh, I dislike the The Dawn Remake as well. Promising pre-credit opening but that's it. Lame characters I could give a damn about, no dread, really bad jokes, little to any zombie carnage, and plenty of annoying forced conflicts in a desperate attempt to keep things interesting (see: security guard crap, "your not gonna take my zombie baby!", "not without my dog" and "let's find an island for the hell of it.") Give me the decent Night remake over this garbage any day. Land on the other was a very enjoyable movie. I think people found the action movie approach disappointing, but I think it worked for what it was. Besides Romero's real masterpiece was "Martin" anyway. And of course Zombies can run, Return of the Living Dead is a genre classic.
The Buzz Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I enjoyed the Dawn remake, Land, the Night remake, and Shaun of the Dead, but to this day can't seem to finish the original Night of the Living Dead. Not because it bores me, or is bad. Just because something always happens where I either fall asleep after work, or have to turn the tv off.
RepoMan Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I liked Land and the Dawn remake about the same but I'd say the Dawn remake has a lot more rewatch value though. A satire of the modern media covering a zombie outbreak sounds great, but a Blair Witch with zombies sounds like crap (that Ramero went out his way to say it "wasn't Blair Witch" scares me). I'll go see it no matter what, I even plan on going to see the awful looking Day remake opening night.
luke-o Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 Oh christ, i forgot about thet Day remake that was coming out. I think i'll avoid that like the plague.
NoCalMike Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 The Dawn remake was ok. It was entertaining, but honestly, besides the fact that the majority of the movie takes place in a mall, it is nothing like the original. With the short term attention span of people and lack of knowledge of movies made before they were born, I am sure they still could have used the Mall as the main setting without having to called the flick, "Dawn of the Dead"
Gary Floyd Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Updates It's coming out on Feb. 15th. Here's the Poster, and a trailer:
Edwin MacPhisto Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Well, I'll probably see it, but I could have done with more than a month between handheld faux-documentary monster movies.
dubq Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Rue Morgue magazine has a really good interview with GAR this month where he goes on about how much more he enjoyed making this film than Land. It's a pretty good read.
Ripper Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 I just watched Land again last night. Its not that bad. i just like the Dawn Remake better. And of course I will see tihs. I watch any and all Zombie/zombie like movies and enjoyt most of them. *slips in praise for Slither just to piss Laz off*
Jingus Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 I probably would've liked Slither except for the bizarre tentacle rape shit, which seemed like they wandered in from an Overfiend hentai and seemed terribly out of place for a sort of whimsical Night of the Creeps remake. Really felt like the director was a sick fucker who sort of got off watching that shit. Personally, I don't understand all the Land hate. Yeah, the "don't shoot 'em, they're just like us" part was lame, and they went further than necessary with the Smart Zombie concept. But overall I thought it was a perfectly fine flick. I liked it much better than Day, which I've always thought was terribly overrated and never understood all the fanboy love for.
dubq Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 I liked Land. It wasn't my favourite, but I still liked it.
Youth N Asia Posted January 19, 2008 Report Posted January 19, 2008 Slither put me to sleep, which sucked cause I wanted to like it
