Red Baron 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Yes. I'm not arguing the fact that what Chris Simon did was wrong. I agree with Canadian Destroy. I love Simon. He's a guy I would love to have on my team. What he did was wrong, and should and probably will be suspended for the rest of the season.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Have you ever seen the Perezhogin on Stafford stick swinging. Stafford was, quite literally, having seizures on the ice. Stafford hit Perezoghin pretty brutal to start the incident, which is often overlooked, but if Perezoghin had gone to jail that night, I'd have been fine with it. Stafford's convulsing was awfully fucking scary. Hollweg clobbered Simon, and probably could have expected a fight or to be nailed later on. But that was one of the most disgusting acts I've ever seen, probably worse than McSorley.
Annabelle 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 this one is the dirties one of all. he slashed him in the face as they guy was coming towards him. thats serious momentum. pereghogins was real bad, too. but this was worse. turgeon - hunter wasn't really that bad, it was just how & when it happened that made it cheap. Red Baron 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 One I think gets overlooked is when one of the Kings players sucker-punched Jeff Beukeboom. Oh and Steve Moore.

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 ya the beaukaboom one is nasty. bertuzzi's is overated. at least he used his fist instead of clotheslining someone with their swinging stick.

But that was one of the most disgusting acts I've ever seen, probably worse than McSorley. I think this was worse then McSorley. From what I remember Marty swung and hit the side of the helmet. Simon swung the stick like a baseball bat at Hollweg's face. Any lower and it would have hit Ryan in the throught, and that would have been real bad. The woset part of this was the shitty Islander fans were cheering Simon as he left the ice. I know I shouldn't expect anything less, but a player on the oppsing team could have been seriously injured and they were cheering it. I don't care if it was a team you hate, have class! Superfly Snuka 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Well, with the possibility of the Penguins having to leave Pittsburgh, I'm spent time trying to figure out why hockey is low on the totem-pole in team sports (other than Bettman and dilution of league with expansion into non-hockey towns + previous boring play in nineties-lockout b/c of the "trap"): The one thing that i think really killed hockey in many ways is with expansion/expansion of divisions, they eliminated the division playoff format before the conference final format, and thus eliminated rivalries, which are at the basis of any great stretch run a particular league's had. What the hell happened to the Habs and Bruins rivalry? Does anyone except the most diehard fan care, really, unless we meet in the playoffs. I loved hating the Whalers/Sabres/habs/Nordiques, b/c you know you'd be facing them in the playoffs every year. Without rivalries, there's no real hate/emotion, which fuels popularity of a sport. The best run/biggest growth of the NBA was the 80s, when there were a ton of rivalries, with the Pistons hating the Celtics, Celtics hating the Sixers, the Lakers and Celtics clashing, etc. Stanley Cup hockey is still the most exciting post-season out there, in my opinion, with the best trophy in all of sports. However, it loses it's meaning in away with the high prepondrence of lower seeds upsetting division winners (thereby invalidating the regular season, to an extent) and the loss of true rivalries in the playoffs. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Must have been a slow day at ESPN if there is a hockey highlight No, it was a busy day, what with Championship Week and all, but ESPN will ALWAYS find time to show a dirty play or huge fight or something that puts hockey in a bad light. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 some canadian talking heads think this could be a 6 game suspension...10 tops. the fact hollwig wasn't hurt helps out simon a lot. That's terrible. Who cares that he wasn't hurt? He could have been, very easily. Simon shouldn't be allowed to play another game this season. It's getting so that I think someone is going to have to either die or end up in a wheelchair before the league officials get their heads out of their asses. Guest Queen Leelee Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Logically, Simon should be kicked out the NHL for life. He's a danger to everyone. A noted drunk with a horrible temper, and a history of issues coming from said temper. But, Campbell will do the usual "old time hockey" bullshit, and it was pure "heat of the moment" retaliation unlike the Bertuzzi and McSorley incidents... so, at most, Simon will be done for the season. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 I never thought the McSorley incident demanded all the outrage it got- he shouldn't have been blackballed for it. What Hunter did was much worse

I should post the attendances of the teams in the NHL. Like in many sports, team attendance usually fluctuates wiyth performance. Anaheim has sold out 96% of it's games, and St. Louis has barely sold out over 50%. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance?s...t&year=2007 ESPN is partially to blame for the lack of popularity of hockey. If hockey is dicussed by one the panelists, they're looked down upon. PTI and Sports Center doesn't cover it. The NHL should have more games on national TV that way they can get more attention. Bettman is trying to keep the Penguins in Pittsburgh because he knows that moving the Jets to Phoenix was a bad idea. I think Bettman gets the blame for too much stuff. Oh look there's a lockout, Quebec's moving to Colorado, and of course the Devils have won the Stanley Cup. The NHL has, for as long as I've been watching it, hasn't marketed their players correctly. Everybody knows who LeBron, Kobe, and Shaq are. Few know about Crosby, Ovechkin, and Kopitar. If fans can connect with the players, it will give them a reason to watch. treble 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2007 Those 'My NHL' commercials they played last season were stupid. Rather than use actual players, they used actors in those generic NHL sweaters. I can understand if they didn't want to use Crosby and Ovechkin before they had even played an actual game in the league, but there are other players. There are some better ones I've seen this season. The bachelor party waiting for the Swedish twins and the Sedins come in and start dancing is kind of funny. They really should try and buy more ad time on NBC.
