NHL Thread

Watching the Sabres' mini-collapse, I am constantly reminded of the fact that Ottawa could be within a point or two of the division lead right now had they managed to hold onto all those third-period leads they had in the past two weeks. Nice comeback against the Rangers, though, even if I couldn't watch it thanks to the amazingness that is the NHL on PPV.

The East gets really interesting on both ends of the playoff tree. New Jersey, Buffalo and Ottawa all win to keep it tight up top, Atlanta's loss opens the door for Tampa to stay close (remember, 6th place only has five points of breathing room on 11th place. The division winner might be the only SE team to make the dance), and the Isles and Canes both lose. Coupled with the B's win pulling them within six, it's getting really good now.

Does anyone like the new draft format that the NHL will be using this year?

I personally like it.

Explain.

There's not much of a change. Instead of just the Cup winner moving to the bottom of the draft order regardless of regular season record, all four semifinalists will get moved to the bottom. The Cup winner will draft 30th, the other finalist will draft 29th, and the two semifinalists will draft 27th and 28th depending on record.

I couldn't care less about the change. Did anybody mention on here that it was the Red Wings who suggested the format change? Interesting because they'd have benefitted if the draft format was like this in the last several seasons, considering they've finished high in the standings (in 1st the last two years) but have been eliminated early in the playoffs.

The Islanders/Fishsticks and 'Canes both lost tonight, the Eastern Conference playoff race is pretty tight right now. I didn't realize that even the Bruins and Panthers still have a shot at making the postseason.

Well, if you can call it a shot for the Bruins. They have 12 games remaining and they are all against teams with a winning record. And here are the records against the remaining teams:

0-3 v. Atlanta

1-6 v. Buffalo

3-2 v. Montreal

3-3 v. Ottawa (Bruins have lost the last three)

2-0 v. Pittsburgh

2-1 v. Jersey

0-2 v. Rags

Jordan Tootoo is most likely going to get suspsended for his knock out punch against Stephan Robidas

And he gets his five game suspension.

You couldn't pay me to drive all that way to watch the Stars.

I've done it once, will never do it again.

Nothing against you, but comeon. It's the Stars. Last time I saw them, my ex-girlfriend fell asleep.

Max, I havent seen SportsCentre since Friday morning...what's the Bruins' mood like? Eager to come out firing in the home and home against the Habs? Deflated from the Rangers loss?

The Habs/Bruins and Isles/Bolts are HUGE tomorrow, and even bigger with the Rangers winning again tonight. The greatness of it has to be compounded by how well Pittsburgh has been playing lately.

I'm pretty damn positive Henrik Lundqvist has been the main reason for the Ranger resurgance latley. I donno if anyone's noticed but he's been the best goalie in the NHl by far the last couple months, with a 1.86 GAA and .933 save percentage since Xmas.

Damn I gotta start watching PTI again. This afternoon's job interview, be damned.

What a freakin fight in Hogtown. Not surprisingly, Belak and Jansen. Not so suprisingly, ten minutes in. They didnt even hit each other or try and get position, the fight just kinda spurned itself (figuratively, Kaberle was obviously the reason). Over a minute the two went at it.

Sabres are the 1st team to clinch a playoff spot.

Of course, they're just going to lose to Boston or something in the 1st round. Right.

At this point, the only team that could even give them a scare is the Islanders.

Cam Ward being out ruins the Hurricanes, because he won't be nearly back to normal by playoff time, regardless of when he comes back. All the other teams near the 8th spot suck. That includes the Rangers, look what happened to them last year when they played a good team. They got obliterated.

Jagr playing with a discloated shoulder, Henrik not healthy, no Kaspar or Ruchinsky, playing with OZO, plus a Devils team that I think had won like 10 in a row? going into the series had nothing to do with them losing ...

I'm not saying their going to win the cup but if they make it, they'll have Shanny, Hossa, Tyutin, Rachuneck all back with Avery and Mara aboard with the rookies who are playing great with Henrik (who's going to steal a series by himself hes friggin insane right now), I definitley think the Rangers can win a series or two in the playoffs.

They can win a series or two if they get that 6 slot.

That's really the key for all these 6-11 teams, is being able to get into the 6th slot. I don't think any of them could beat the Devils, and I think that like one of them would have a shot against Buffalo. Beating the Thrash on the other hand, that's a different story.

Actually, they haven't clinched a spot yet. If the Islanders win tonight, the Sabres still haven't officially clinched.

Edit: And...........now they've clinched.

I'd definitley rather play the Devils than Sabers, for one the Rangers don't score that much, and two, I want to beat them so bad i'm so sick of the Devils gah.
