NBA Playoffs 2007: Round 1

Recommended Posts

Its not mind games, its not Avery not being able to coach. Its that the Warriors just matchup very well against the Mavs making this matchup much more evenly matched than it appears on paper. Plus, the Mavs just have a fragile psyche anyway. Thats why Baron and Stephen Jackson getting kicked out of game two didn't really mean much because at the end of the day, THATS how they play. Overly emotional, horribly mixmatched basketball. And you can't beat a team that is pretty evenly matched with you at their own game.

Nellie made some smart adjustments last night and Jason Richardson went the fuck off like I had been waiting for him to do. Now its time for Avery to adjust but once again, pointing out how I said this series would go, I expect the warriors to win the next one then the Mavs to take the next two. I would be happy to be wrong, and have the Mavs gone in 6, but I just don't see that happening.

You guys are making it seem like it's a huge deal," Suns center Amare Stoudemire said. "It's only 19 points. He was obviously a big factor for the Lakers, but I think we didn't win because we weren't aggressive enough."

Asked whether he would change his defensive game plan of fronting Brown in the post for Game 4, which the 6-foot-9 Stoudemire does to counter Brown's superior size and strength,Stoudemire smiled a bit, then said, "There's a lot of things I'm going to do to Kwame on Sunday, but I can't tell you guys about them yet."

I lose more and more respect for the Suns every day. First that stupid fucking book, and now this.

Yap yap yap yap yap. Shut up and go play.

I honestly don't understand what happened to Dallas. Dirk looks like he's not even trying out there. He either stands in the corner or else makes a really shitty attempt to get open and then takes a 20 foot set shot if he gets the ball. They don't look remotely like the team that won 67 games.

This sounds like how I play in pick-up games.

What did Dallas in last night was shit lazy defense, they looked like they were two steps behind Golden State on every play. Lay up, lay up, wide open shot, wide open shot, lay up. Dirk came out on fire, crashing the boards, dropping short jump shots from the baseline and midrange like he should have been doing the whole series. Than he just gave up and went out like a punk, pathetic. I still think Dallas will win the series but I doubt they'll get past Phoenix.

First, the Suns didn't write the book.

And second, Amare Stoudimire is a asshole. I don't know why that would shock anyone.

That was some 'flagrant' in the Spurs/Nuggets game. Manu is a pure-hearted soul and hero who can do no wrong and farts rainbows and sunshine according to Bill and the other guy.

It was a flagrant. It was the same foul that Mardy Collins gave to Smith in the brawl game, although not quite as hard.

Pavlovic's foul on Jamison early in that game was worse, though. I mean, he smacked Jamison right in the face on the way to the basket.

What a pathetic effort in back to back games by the Rockets. Are they even trying to win out there?

The Spurs/Nuggets series is starting to pan out like I thought. San Antonio can lock down when it counts, Denver cannot. Horry made some nice plays in this one too. That was a weak flagrant on Manu, but I don't think it had any affect on the game in retrospect.

Now a days referees will call a flagrant when someone commits a hard foul and is apparent he made a half ass attempt at the ball.

A weak flagrant foul happened the other day (forgot what game) when a player went up for a lay-up and an opposing player put a hand on the guy's back and the player just happened to land hard on the floor.

It's the quotes in the book that get to me. I'd save quotes like that for when they have a ring.

Well, Smith was obviously grabbed around the neck, it looked to me like Manu was simply hammered on the arms. Collins got a flagrant 2, Smith a flagrant 1. Not quite the same, but I'd prefer not drudging up anything from that stupid brawl again anyway. Tonight's was definitely a hard foul and was perhaps not warranted, but still not even a flagrant in my book. It can be called either way but what really got to me was the announcers making it out to be a much worse issue than it really was, praising Manu since he's oh so tough and villifying Denver in one go. I know, I know, it's Walton and he's prone to this, but still.

I'm really worried now. Though the Nuggets are making it close this time around it's still all too similar to 2005 and I'm afraid a pair of losses where they kept it within or got it down to striking distance but failed miserably in execution in the end will just totally demoralize them. Denver won't win the series and may not even win another game in this stretch where the bench has done jack shit on Iverson, Anthony's and/or Camby's willpower alone.

THE DAGGER! from...Ben Wallace?

This is the first time I've seen the Bulls win a series since I was in 6th grade. Awesome. The dark age of Chicago basketball is officially over in 47.5 secs.

HELLLLLL YEEEEAAAAHHHH!!

The dark cloud that loomed over the NBA has disappeared

The reign of terror is over

Worst champions ever are out

Finally I can enjoy the NBA without worry

Ben Wallace is clutch

That advantage a certain few people here said Detroit would enjoy in the 2nd round is nonexistent. Bulls match pace and sweep the Heat. Good effort by Ben Wallace to sort of make a moot point out of fouling him in the fourth quarter.

Great series by the Bulls. They never cracked under pressure and that defense in the final 4 minutes today was some of the best they've played this season. Miami wasn't getting anything easy in the paint, and the Bulls kept jumping in the passing lanes to create turnovers. Another big issue here was FT shooting. Ben Wallace went 6 of 7, the most important of which were making Miami pay for the intentional fouls. Meanwhile, Shaq and Zo only make 2 foul shots all game.

Chicago/Detroit should be a great series. Very evenly matched teams with good chemistry, defense, and guys who can make big shots. I'd be surprised if that one doesn't go at least 6.

I'm still worried about this. The Bulls have matched up well against the Pistons this season, and they will be hot coming off this sweep, but part of me worries that Rasheed, Rip, and the gang will flip some magic switch in the playoffs. Totally irrational fear, I know.

Coaching-wise, how do you think Skiles matches up with the ol' Flipper?

Bulls swept the defending Champs, Detroit swept first-timers Orlando. I think Chicago will be fine to at least give Detroit a series.

Plus Chicago won the season series. I have to think (ok, hope) that they will be the ones going to the conference finals, not Detroit.

Btw Czech, Detroit tried "flipping" that magic switch last year and got eliminated as a result.

Skiles is way better.

I know the Heat getting swept today was humiliating, but I don't see how they are the worst champions ever. I'd say that is the 1995 Houston Rockets, who were just a 6 seed or so. Besides, even if you want to defend the Rockets there are plenty of teams from the 70s to choose from (1979 Sonics, 78 Bullets, 77 Blazers, 75 Warriors...the 70s was the decade of every jobber franchise getting that 1 title).

I might go with that 1975 Warriors team being the lamest. Hell, they weren't even the best pro team in the USA. That would have been the ABA champion Kentucky Colonels.

I'm just glad that Miami/Chicago series is over. Let's get all these tedious 1st round series over with and get to the good stuff.

OK then worst since the Magic/Bird era began since my knowledge is limited to that time.

The 1995 Rockets were the defending Champs, so they can't be the worst.

Do you think the announcer for the suns/laker game can keep up this annoying Nash and Kobe dick sucking for an entire game? Because seriously, they need to make this game TV-MA if they are. This is just plain fucking annoying. It was a layup you fucking asshole, he didn't just make the greatest play ever.
