Bored Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 The outfield desperate A's picked up Ryan Langerhans from the Braves for a bag of balls. Might as well just ask RICKEY~ out of semi-retirement.

Guest Smues Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 Will the "Langer hands" travel 3,000 accross the country to see their hero play in Oakland? TUNE INTO NITRO TO FIND OUT!

The Langer Hands? Good Lord. That's why I always hated watching home Braves games; the fans have some dumbass names for fan club's-"Chipper's Chippendales", "Francoeur's Franks", "Langer Hands". Come on, guys, put some thought into it!
snuffbox Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 Milwaukee in a nationally-televised game? Wow.

No, the Phillies stink because they're clearly not scrappy enough.

Come on, guys, put some thought into it! For years there was a sign in the right field bleachers of the Coliseum that read "Eric's Fox Hounds" for A's cult hero Eric Fox. Trust me we'll come up with something unoriginal for Mr. Langerhans. My personal favorite was always the "Jamie Quirk Fan Club."

Come on, guys, put some thought into it! You forgot Shef's chefs and McCann's cans. I like the chefs and the franks. I don't particularly care for McCann's cans but they aren't terrible. The Langer hands are just terrible though.
Guest Queen Leelee Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 No way. Rowand - Goes without saying. Myers - Big fighter and scrapper. Victorino - High scrappiness. Helms - Was really scrappy until last year, but has shown signs of improving.
vivalaultra Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 To follow up on the dumb nicknames, I was just looking at a Brave's blog-Is there really a group that calls themselves 'Wickman's Wicker Baskets'? Oy vey.

Oy vey. I haven't seen them but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Sadly when we had J.D. Drew I don't think there was a group of large breasted women called "J.D's D's."
strummer Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 Look for there to be some "controversy" coming out of NY tomorrow as Carlos Beltran once again sacrifice bunted in the 1st inning today with men on first and second. I don't know what infuriates me more the talking heads in NY that are going to make way too big a deal out of this tomorow or the posters at various Met boards who commended Beltran on the move saying the Mets rely too much on the homerun and should start "manufacturing runs" more. FJM's work is still not done
Guest Smues Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 My point is you can't compare things with statistics. I know ripping on Joe Morgan is the 'in' thing these days, but he actually said in a Joe Chat "You can't compare things with statistics." YOU CAN'T COMPARE THINGS WITH STATISTICS. He needs to be fired, now. Right now. As I type this. After I type this. Ten seconds from now. NOW.
Guest Queen Leelee Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 That's just Joe not understanding most statistics, and insulting people who do, for the 1000th time. What's more insulting is saying Hall hit 70 RBIs when he hit 85. And not realizing he batted 2nd in the lineup for a good chunk of the season, while still leading his team in RBIs. We can go on here.
Guest Smues Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 But that statistics quote is broader than just baseball. He says you can't compare 'things' with statistics. If he had said 'you can't compare players with statistics' I'd have just dismissed it as usual deluded Joe. But things? We can't compare anything with statistics? Such a joke.

FJM's work is still not done Since Beltran basically ended up winning the game for the Metropolitans, I imagine it'll burn out pretty quickly. I'm much more interested in Maine's current ridiculous ERA of 1.35 (second in baseball) and opponents' split of .159/.267/.230. Just in awe of how well he's doing so far and waiting to see just when he'll come back to Earth.
Mik Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 It appears as though the Marlins new ballpark has been shot down by the Senate again.

His intangibles are off the chart. Quick, someone find who said that and about whom yesterday. I forgot because I laughed so much. As if "Adrian Peterson is a home run hitter" and "The Mighty Quinn" weren't weird enough.
Guest Queen Leelee Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 It had to be either Quinn or Posluszny.
Dobbs 3K Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 It appears as though the Marlins new ballpark has been shot down by the Senate again. So where do they end up eventually? Las Vegas?
Guest Richard McBeef Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 Portland wants baseball a lot, I believe, and I doubt Las Vegas ever gets a team. I'm pulling for Norfolk/Virginia Beach to get the Marlins, since it's a growing area and there are no pro teams there. Plus, it keeps things aligned well.

The Orioles AAA team is in Norfolk, and I really..really doubt PA will allow another Major League team in the general area without World War 3 happening and him being guaranteed a billion dollars or something for the sale of the Os or whatever, plus the TV rights to the marlins in Norfolk and probably a percentage of ticket sales too. In other words, it wont happen.
Guest Richard McBeef Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 Norfolk isn't remotely near Washington-Baltimore. He wouldn't have a case.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 Norfolk isn't remotely near Washington-Baltimore. He wouldn't have a case. PA opposed a move of the Expos to Norfolk just as much as to DC. Moving another team to Norfolk would piss him off so much like I said. Im also pretty sure Norfolk is claimed as a TV market for the Orioles. If not, then Im sure its considered a TV market for the Nationals and since PA has a stake in the Nationals TV rights then he'd still have a case due to the impact of the tv rights on the Nationals which affects the money he makes off the deal to move the Expos to DC. Remember PA is a Lawyer which is how he managed to milk MLB for everything in order to move the Expos to DC. Norfolk is only 170 miles from Baltimore btw.
devo Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 It looks like Jose Valentin's going to be out for at least a month. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...e_hospital.html I'm sure Easley and/or Newhan can fill in admirably for Jose, so it's not a huge loss. I am curious as to who Minaya will call up to take the roster spot, though.
