OAO WWE Spring Releases Thread

Recommended Posts

We might as well have a thread for this, since there might be more. I can't believe that they've released Ariel, I never would've guessed that one. I thought she was a somewhat major part of ECW, if only because of her gimmick, and being with Thorn. I never thought that they would release Scotty, I really didn't. He's been there for so long, and is good for the house show pop, that I figured they'd keep him around. As for Mitch, eh - just another case of not really giving a guy a major chance, but you've gotta cut someone as the years go by. Here's the list so far:

-2 Cold Scorpio

-Angel Williams (developmental)

-Ariel

-Nick "Mitch" Mitchell

-Rob Conway

-Rob Van Dam (maybe, either way it's coming soon)

-Sabu

-Scotty Too Hotty

-Vito

-Beth Phoenix

-Henry Godwin

Thorn will more than likely go next, otherwise they are just going to have to pretend Ariel never existed. Or they plan on putting some stupid model in there who is incapable of doing anything but is Vince's idea of hot.

It's shocking they cut Ariel before they could get her in the swimsuit and lingerie issues. I would think some men would be falling over themselves to get pictures of her giant breasts in a bikini or teddy.

This always happens around this time though so I'm sure more are coming. I hope Ariel didn't get cut to make way for the ladies of the next diva search but odds are she did.

Ariel being released is a surprise, if only because the gimmick seemed to be over. Plus, she could do the pole dancing stuff and that was hot stuff.

Nicky wasn't a surprise. There wasn't much they could do with him after the Spirit Squad was squashed and buried six-feet under. I expect a few of the other SS members, if not all of them, to be let go as well.

Conway being gone shows a total lack of foresight because Conway could have been working in OVW and trying to help the juiced up stiffs WWE likes at least look competent, and also because they'd started the ball rolling on repackaging La Resistance and it's just gone to waste before having a chance.

Van Dam and Sabu gone is no shock.

Scotty going is a shock, because he seemed like he'd have a job for life being a jobber.

I'm more ticked about Ariel than anyone else. With RVD and Sabu, I know that they'll get work somewhere else and be what they've always been, but with her I doubt she'll show up in TNA or anyone else in that exact gimmick.

I really, really liked her gimmick.

Put her with Abyss as his female friend who helps him regain his confidence by being the first person to show genuine affection for him. She can keep the darker elements of her gimmick because it plays into the Abyss gimmick.

Thorn will get cut, or jobbed out and then fired. His gimmick isn't strong enough to stand on its own.

Hell, at the rate they're going with ECW cuts and firings, they may as well rename ECW "Tuesday Night Extreme" and make it the RAW and Smackdown b-show, or something.

Only ones I'm surprised about are Ariel and Scotty. Ariel seemed to be major part of Thorn's character and Scotty was one of those guys you would think would be working for WWE until he retired. I'm thinking Funaki is next.

Yeah, Scotty has been like a modern Tito Santana...the somewhat over and recognizable guy who can work and make other people look good.

Coming soon to Japan, Scotty The Hot teaming up with Giant Bernard!

I'm thinking that surely Steph had something to do with Scotty being released. He's held on all this time, then she takes over that new spot, and then he's gone. It wouldn't shock me to see more guys like him being released, guys we never would really think it would happen to.

Val Venis and Funaki heard this news and got real scared.

If that's true, that's a positive I guess, of Stephanie taking over. Yes she will use the spots to fill with male bodybuilding models who has no business being in the ring, but I'm glad that they are clearing guys who really, at this point, has no reason to hold a spot.... Conway and Ariel nonwithstanding.

Ok, I don't follow like I used to, but I've gotta say that releasing Ariel seems to be a real dummy move to me since she's one of the only divas who--and just from an eye candy standpoint, I dunno how she is in the ring--I could really see getting over. And IIRC aren't they trying to push Thorn after the New Breed split? She was pretty much the only appeal he had.

Angel Williams was just moved to OVW - I wonder if she just had enough. She'd be better off trying out for the diva search to get in that way.

Ariel didn't sell magazines and didn't wrestle at all. As unique and interesting as her look was, wwe needs to open up roster space for the divas search losers.

Scotty was useless - probably kept him around long enough so they wouldn't be inconsiderate of his cancer.

So who's next..........

Balls Mahoney

Chuck Palumbo

Viscera

Val Venis

Any of the former SS guys like Nemeth.........several more may be coming.

Hell all those guys could be released seeing as they don't do much.

Hey, I'm all for clearing the dead weight on a roster. Ariel is puzzling to me since she is the main one released (not named RVD and Sabu, who are a different matter) that actually was getting notable TV time.

Wanna know something? This should only be the beginning. I noted in a thread a few days ago that WWE is full of guys who have been jobbed out, buried, or just not doing anything. Here are some others who need to be released in my view:

Raw: Duggan, Eugene, The Highlanders, Val Venis, Viscera. These guys are all stale or worthless.

Smackdown: Ashley (they got the Playboy cover out of her, now get rid of her to bring in the next Diva Search bimbo), Funaki, Maryse, Michelle McCool (either move the chicks to Raw where there's a women's division or get rid of em), Shannon Moore, Mike Mizanin.

ECW: Sandman (not so much that I'd want to, but with the Originals all but gone he serves no purpose), Little Guido, Mike Knox, and a bunch of them are borderline but I'd keep for now.
