There is about no chance in hell that Pettitte passes up that juicy $18 million option for 2008. No chance.

Pavano signed a four-year deal that ends after 2008. The club has an option for 2009 (which they won't pick up, so they'll have to buy out the final year).

Aaron Rowand's a free agent this year and I imagine Yankee fans would like the guy who made a great showing in that White Sox series a few years ago.

Rowand is Edmonds-like in his fielding histrionics and nothing outstanding as a hitter, though he does have da fire and da passion.

LOVE the lineup the Dodgers are trotting out tonight. Matt Kemp, Tony Abreu, Andre Ethier and James Loney all starting. All the shitty players (except Juan Pierre) and fossils on the bench (save for Jeff Kent and Luis Gonzalez, who is swinging a hot bat right now, so it's fine)

With Tejada out on the DL, It occured to me that he was realistically going to be the Os only All Star (on name value alone) so It got me to wondering who the Os rep will be now. A case could be made for Roberts but he wont get picked in the logjam of 2B. So it realisically comes down to Erik Bedard or Jeremy Guthrie and I think Guthrie should go since he's 9 for 10 in quality starts (9 straight) with a 4-1 record (that could easily be 6-1 or better), 2.42 ERA (#2 behind Haren in the AL), .89 WHIP (#1 in the AL) and 56Ks. Bedard leads the AL with a 121 Ks and he has 6 straight good starts going for him as well, but Id go with Guthrie, as it would also be a feather in his cap for ROY honors at the end of the season.

After scuffling his last few starts, Glavine turns in a gem (8 IP, 6 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 ER) and finally gets win 296, racking up a double and a two-RBI single in the process. Very nice to see a solid victory for the Metropolitans.

Dear God, who thought having the Padres wear their retro uniforms was a good idea? Banana yellow and brown on the hats is not a good combo. If they break out the brown jerseys this weekend I'm going to puke.

Former slugger Cecil Fielder said he won't try to renew his relationship with his son, Prince, until the Milwaukee Brewers star treats him with more respect.

Things got so bad, according to The News, that Prince Fielder was served with legal papers for his father as he left the field after a 2002 game at Class A Beloit. Cecil Fielder accuses his ex-wife of turning their son against him.

I get the feeling Cecil might be waiting for a while.

If it isn't a problem, update us on Tyler Clippard. I hope the Yankees haven't given up on him, he has good stuff, just needs to get his control down pat.

Not the best outing as Clippard walked five in five innings, striking out two. Both starters really had trouble throwing strikes out there.

Tejada may be on the DL, but the O's are doing pretty good right now against the D-Backs, leading 7-0. Daniel Cabrera is having a rarity at the moment, pitching a decent game. I'm going by the Yahoo scoreboard, 'cause my cable (Comcast) doesn't have MASN.

Can Cincy please play all it's games in Seattle from now on?

I fear this is another "Reds score huge and rout the other team, then go on to lose the next 5 games" trend tonight.

Still, 9 runs in 3 innings, DAMN!

The DFA'd Milton Bradley got traded by the A's to the Royals for pitcher Leo Nunez. I bet he's pissed.

And now the trade is off.

The Royals acquired outfielder Milton Bradley for a brief period Friday before sending him back to the A’s upon learning he has an oblique injury that prevents him from playing.

The A’s were to get minor-league reliever Leo Nunez in the deal.

“The only thing I know,” GM Dayton Moore said, “is there was some problem with the medical (examination).”

Bradley, 29, missed time recently because of an injured calf but was designated for assignment Thursday — just one day after being activated from the disabled list. He apparently suffered the oblique injury on a swing in his final at-bat Wednesday against the Reds.

By designating Bradley for assignment, the A’s must trade him or release him within 10 days. Moore acknowledged the Royals could pursue Bradley at a later date.

“Obviously,” Moore said, “we’ve got interest in him.”

If released, Bradley becomes a free agent and can sign elsewhere with his new team paying on a pro-rated portion of $380,000 — the big-league minimum salary. The A’s would be obligated for the balance of his $4 million contract.

The guy whines about not being activated from the DL a day earlier and then comes up with another injury in his first game back. So that ends any chance the A's can trade him and now they'll have to eat his salary. Wonderful.

In other news the A's are apparently interested in Ol' Dirty Dukes. This has been quite a miserable 48 hours as an A's fan.

So the Cubs get rid of Dusty Baker and now my AL favorite, the Orioles, are interested in him to be the next manager. It seems that whatever scraps the Cubs throw off the table, the O's are there to snatch up and have a taste.

I cannot escape Dusty.

Maybe Cecil should have respected his family and not blown all his money on gambling and junk investments.

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention that Cecil apparently took part of Prince's signing bonus without his permission a while ago, too (it was discussed in a recent SI article). Respect that.

The Cubs won 2-1 on a squeeze play. The Cubs executed a squeeze play and nothing crazy happened. It actually went well and it ended being the game winner.

We must have entered another dimension because they usually are completely unable to perform this.

Did he use it to buy some big juicy steaks?

I bet he had ribs too.

The Os are going for 4 in a row tonight! Lets see if Dave "I look like William Shatner" Trembley can keep it going.

If only it was against a team worth a damn. Seriously, I take back my preseason prediction. White Sox-4th place sounds about right now.

The one thing that pissed me off about last nights game just pissed me off even more. D-Cab last night took 10 pitches in 3 ABs and didnt even swing (3 called strikeouts) and Burress just slapped an RBI basehit to help out his cause. Cabrerra could have at least made an attempt at a swing last night..

The Os are making some really good defensive plays in the last two games vs Arizona which is really good.

As the Texas series proved, it doesn't really matter if it's against a team that's worth a damn or not. There are no given victories on the North side of Chicago.

It was more an insult towards the White Sox than the Cubs. I'm just frustrated by their performance. The Cubs did a good job this series so far though. Kudos.
