AntiLeaf33 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 For all you Benoit fans, I believe this fully puts the kabosh on any "Best of Benoit" dvd. I wouldn't be surprised at some point WWE reissues "Hard Knocks" with new interviews of his downfall. I doubt it. Why would they want to make a DVD and sink money into a DVD bashing a guy who killed his family. Sure they made a DVD about Warrior being an idiot, and such, but this would be a DVD about a guy who killed him family. I really don't see it happening at all. LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 Trace Gallagher on fox news finally got it across on national media about the huge number of deaths of young wrestlers in the last 10 years. Hopefully some good can come from this. It is clear Vince can't/won't police the business himself. The only way things would change is if the congress got involved. This is the end of Vince, make no mistake. Oh come on. You seriously think Vince is going to retire or quit, or that the government will shut wrestling down? Edit: HTQ sums it up better above. Mecca 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 I also think it's in poor taste to turn this situation into "let's bash Vince and talk about how he's goin down"

Guest joshtothemaxx Report post Posted June 26, 2007 I still don't think this is going to garner permanent attention to the WWE. They might get a Congress hearing like they did 15 years ago, and like baseball did 2 years ago, but little more than that I'm sure. But if there IS public outcry against steroids, I also wouldn't be surprised to see the WWE scale back the wrestler's size like they did in the 90's by pushing HBK and Bret Hart. Therefore, El Generico takes the belt from Cena at Wrestlemania 24.
Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 All I know is that this may be discussed during my entertainment and society course. Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 One thing that hasn’t been mentioned in a while: the death of Vince angle. No matter that he shit all over the ten bell salute thing, do you think there will be anything of a tribute show for Benoit? If Vince ends the angle, he’ll likely have to give a reason. How can anyone say something nice about Benoit after this, even if separating the wrestler from the person?
AntiLeaf33 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 This is not the end of Vince. This is not the end of the WWE. This may, however, be abrupt dawning of a new era for the sport of professional wrestling.

DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 "One man in the several decades of wrestling history may have had a mental breakdown before he killed his family and himself, therefore Vince is done and wrestling is over". Yeah, ok. Blaming the business / Vince for Benoit's actions is almost as bad as people that blame Doom for school shootings. I say "almost" because wrestling does undoubtedly take a toll on you, but still, point remains.

How can anyone say something nice about Benoit after this, even if separating the wrestler from the person? Raw was a tribute show. If you mean a memorial show with wrestlers doing matches in tribute to Benoit? Highly unlikely. I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel the ECW/Smackdown tapings tonight instead of going ahead with the rumored "no angles" shows.

Though thankfully, the Bible stuff didn't creep me out at all. I really thought it was going to be sexual abuse/necrophilia from what was said before. LJSexay 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 if only this was the actual catalyst to change for the business. That could probably be the ONLY, ONLY good thing to come from this catastrophic mess of a tragedy. but you know guys, stop giving one another crap about those who feel conflicted or those who wanna see him in hell. The cognitive dissonance is purely human - it's very difficult for some, myself included, to think of someone we all deeply admired as a man who lost it and committed murder, and ultimately suicide. Let's give each other some slack on this until it firmly settles in that this has actually happened.

Hopefully some good can come from this. It is clear Vince can't/won't police the business himself. The only way things would change is if the congress got involved. You have to think with the election in 2008 that one of these candidates (probably one of the minor ones) is going to latch on this story and use for their own agenda...bad news for Vince. Some pepole overestimate the importance of wrestling in the grand scheme of things. They have some heat for a few weeks and then the media will forget about it the next time a pretty white girl gets murdered. WWE actually enforces the Wellness Policy for a few months, fire some JTTS who get caught with roids, and eventaully just forget about.

MFer 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 My thinking is that either Vince will come out and say the limo thing was an accident and his character will continue or someone else will report that it was an accident that Vince survived and he is now on a leave of absence. Or they could just simply forget about it.

This is COMPLETELY true. Anyways, since the good memories of Benoit I used to have are rapidly disappearing, are there any series of matches that you wish he had with a wrestler but didn't? I always wanted to see the series he was going to have with Brock before he won the rumble and switched brands.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2007 In light of recent evidence becoming public...Benoit's blank stare in the bulk of the photos used of him when he was a young'un, and the quotes of his parents as saying he was always a "quiet, well-behaved child" seem rather ominous now...
