Guest shoryuken007 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 So, I have this song on my computer and I have no idea where it came from -- may have been a friend or old roommate's selection. It's "Cross Out The Eyes," and the band's name is apparently "Thursday." I like this song, but I could see being annoyed by the band, as it's screamy and a shade pretentious. So does anyone know this band? Is their stuff worth tracking down? Any recommendations?
Guest The Minor Threat Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Thursday used to be one of the premiere screamo bands three or four years ago. They aren't bad, actually. I definitely recommend checking out their "War All the Time" album. It is class. The song you mentioned having is from their "Full Collapse" album, which came before War; it's a good album too, but not my taste. If you like "Cross out the Eyes," though, you will like the rest of the record.
Sly 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 I am aware of them as well. They've got a pretty solid following, actually. A lot of people that I know have said that Full Collapse was their best album, but all three cds are pretty solid really.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 I'm surprised to see positive responses here. As was said. Full Collapse and War All The Time are good. Anything else, and I don't know.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 I had Full Collapse back when it came out. It was good then, but I haven't listened to it in years, and I doubt I'd enjoy it much these days.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 I also used to have Full Collapse. I thought it was decent, but that uh...what's the lead singer's name? Like...Geoff or something? Yeah, he got a little too whiney on some songs and the screaming came off as a bit forced in places. Thinking about Thursday, I remember this band that I used to like that was kind of like Thursday called Glassjaw. They were a little whiney and they screamed a lot, too, but I liked them a good deal a few years ago.

The lead singer and I think the bass player are in Head Automatica now, which is like GlassJaw, but more pop
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 Calling them whiny and pretentious is the best description I can give of them. Living in NJ, I've wound up seeing them way too many times and I've realized that there is nothing much to that band. Their audience really is moody teenage girls who want to listent to loud music just because they want to impress guys. I do, however, have a soft spot for Glassjaw. Coffin Surfer 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2007 "Full Collapse" is a solid album with some memorable bass playing throughout, though the album's formula get's patience testing by the second half. "Understanding in a Car Crash" is a really really good song that I don't think they ever came close to matching in quality. Meh to "Glassjaw," boring music and an annoying frontman that tries way too hard. If Faith No More had no creativity, talent, and took themselves way too seriously they would probably sound like this. That said "Ry Ry's Song" is not bad at all. I would personally take the first two Boy Sets Fire albums over either of them. They were like a stripped down punk version of Iron Maiden minus the irony at their best. "The lead singer and I think the bass player are in Head Automatica now" This is true.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2007 Great driving around with music. I like Full Collapse, War All the Time, and (I think it's called) Divided by the City Lights However they are PAINFULLY!! boring live. I've seen them twice and just wanted it to end both times. Thankfully they were playing with Rise Against the second time and they killed. "A Hole In the World" is my favorite song by them.
The Flamboyance 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 However they are PAINFULLY!! boring live. I've seen them twice and just wanted it to end both times. Really? I never really got into their albums but I saw them at the Curiosa festival like 3 years ago and was very impressed with their live show, especially with Geoff. They were fun to watch. C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 "Understanding in a Car Crash" is a pretty good song IMO. I got that album, and enjoyed it for awhile.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 I'd go as far as to say that they're probably the best of the crap filled "screamo" genre. They're not spectacular but they are solid. Yea, they have those stupid "emo" vocals but their music more than makes up for it. Best song on Full Collapse is "Paris In Flames".
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2007 I'd chime in with my generic "emo kids fuck off" comments...but the few Thursday tunes I've heard I didn't hate. Singer's voice annoyed me, but it actually fits the music and isn't over-produced to be the focal point of every song, so there. "Understanding in a Car Crash," or whatever the song is titled (somebody will know what I mean just by my misnomer), is fucking great.

Guest Bammey Report post Posted July 7, 2007 Yes! Thursday is a great band. They surpass many of the screamo bands. Listen to Full Collapse than A City By the Light Divided and see how much they've matured and kicked it up in their sound. Yes, less screaming on A City... but this is a band whose actually growing. The lyrics are sometimes poetic, but always full of teenage angst and emotion that will lure any "emo" or "screamo" fan in. Musically strong with actual instrumentals on albums and direction shifts in their songs.
