Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 You can switch control styles in the demo, just like in the last game. The old scheme is still an option. That said, the demo lacks some of the annoyances the previous games had. Since it has custom music for the 360, I'll be picking this up. No, it's not. There's two types. Only difference is in one you use the analog stick to move, the other you use the d-pad.
Karnage 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 The Y button being the finisher is just...weird. But I'll get useto it. The weird thing about the demo is it has Lashley's old music but when you watch the IGN video of his entrance, you hear his new unheard-on-WWE TV music. God yes, it's better than the random screaming shit they'd have playing in the past games. Goddamn hated "Start a War" by Static X. No, no, "Money in the Bank" was the worst. Fuck that song. Also, did anyone else have trouble storing finishers? I could do it once and then for the rest of the match it wouldn't work. Also, it wasn't an impressive demo to me. Scroby 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 Your not storing a finisher, what your storing is the wrestlers special attribute. You know those two things that you have to choose one of when you pick your wrestler, well when you have a finisher ready to go, instead of storing a finisher, you press LT/LB and you basically store the attribute you picked and when you want to use it, you press Y + RB to use it. You have to work yourself back up to use your finisher if you press LB/LT.

God, I hate that fucking song. I'm kind of surprised that there was never an option to edit the playlist of songs that play in the menu's, ala EA TRAX in pretty much any EA sports game. Because of that song, I usually play the game on mute
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 It looks fairly identical to 07, with flaming tables. In all honesty though, the only reason i'm picking this game up is because you can play as CM Punk. Can you make Punk at all in 07?
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 I'm with the rest of you. Money in the Bank, and that song with all the sound clips from Rocky 3 were far and away the worst song's on last year's mostly-good track list. I didn't even mind the Three Days Grace and Godsmack songs being in the game. I believe Punk's original WWE Uranage/Anaconda Vice finisher was in the game last year. Guest Smues Report post Posted October 17, 2007 The worst song last year was that "Let's start a riot song." God bless the mute button. And I agree the game needs an option like on EA games to turn off the songs. The first thing I do on any EA game is turn off every song, except the NFL films music in the Madden games. El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 Before they started using actual songs (two years ago?) one of their favorite BGM tracks was this just ramdom incoherent screaming. One of the worst "songs" in any game ever.

fazzle 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2007 Yep, from a preview of the 24/7 mode on IGN earlier in the month, absolutely NO ECW guys are in career mode (with the exception of Johnny Nitro, because the game still has him on Raw) and there's only a grand total of 19 fucking selectable characters. Fucking voice acting ruined everything. They need to just take it out.

Nice to see that tournaments are finally back in the game. http://ps2.ign.com/articles/829/829095p1.html Very cool feature. It's been far too long since KOTR was in a wrestling game. Also seconding axing the voice acting part. I never cared about it and I still find the No Mercy story beats the hell out of everything they've done since. Hell, the Smackdown years back during the draft split was awesome and it had no retarded voice acting.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2007 Wait... Cryme Tyme had two themes? As long as it starts out with "Yo yo yo..." it's all the same to me I guess. well yea, the first theme started with "yo yo yo yo, pop a forty and check your rollies, its cryme time" and a slower version of the rap song, the newer one started "yo yo yo yo, sha gaspard and jtg, its cryme time!" and then the new faster song (yo no more hollywood, this is holly-hood!", the game seems to have the older one sad that I notice these things also michelle mccool still has her heel teachers gimmick in the game (she carries a yardstick in her intro)
Ginger Snaps 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2007 I pray this is only a rough draft and Yukes is still figuring out the kinks of the game. It needs work, it isn't bad, but it needs work. For those who don't know, Yukes did fuck with the control sceme yet again, here's what I noticed they did and also some other tidbits. I have no clue how to grapple in this game. Edit: Oh, figured it out. RB + RS. it still feels awkward though, the controls feel sluggish, especially for submission grapples. Also, I don't know how to do my secondary finisher. That depends on which wrestler you've got. Supposedly, Rey's secondary is the Dragonrana, which is off the top rope with the opponent standing and stunned. Randy's is that dive/reversal RKO, which is a turnbuckle grapple, UT's is any direction on LS+Y (chokeslam), and Lashley's is a ground/head grapple (Spear). Aero 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 So, IGN posted it's reviews for all the consoles. 360 got the best score by a few points, but I assume that's only because of the ripping music off your hard drive feature. Basically... same CAW as last year, same stupid AI, and a smaller, outdated roster. Yeah, I'm in no rush to pick this up.
Insanity 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 I'm glad the review pointed out how useless voice acting is. The older Smackdown games have way better story modes because they weren't limited by them. I will end up buying it though for online play. Of course, they'll probably end up keeping cheap moves like the spike headbutt in and I'll just hate THQ more. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 They gave the Nintendo version a 7.5 but Im not to optimistic about it, surely not enough to go out and buy it now. The biggest disapointment seems to be that they dumbed the controls down completely. I'll wait til its on sale somewhere. The potential for a dedicated Wii design is most certainly there though, as there are already aspects of the game that we're pumped to see evolve over Wii's lifespan. The sheer simplicity of the game, for example, is a huge testament to the design team, as it has never been easier to pull of moves, navigate the ring, or execute over-the-top attacks. Move towards a turnbuckle and you'll instantly start climbing it. Face towards the ropes and attack and you'll either slingshot yourself over the top ropes (if your opponent is outside of the ring) or pull off an in-ring rope maneuver akin to Y2J's lionsalt. It's simple, it's intuitive, and it makes for some slick chain wrestling. When you're dealing with a SKU that's generally younger, small changes in the design can make a world of difference, and it shows in SmackDown! vs. Raw. Even actions as simple as attacking from short and long distances is handled by AI, as an attack will automatically launch work within whatever context you use it, be it a running clothesline, standing punch, or interaction with turnbuckles or objects outside the ring. The design does end up lack some depth during the transition though, and some of the more hardcore wrestling fans out there may not be too fond of the drops. Running, for example, is entirely removed from in-ring control, so you'll need to initiate Irish whips on your own, rather than using the ropes manually to set up huge attacks or dodge oncoming ones. There's also no actual region-specific strategy in the Wii version, as any/all attacks work an overall stamina bar down until it's entirely empty, at which point any submission move or pin will result in a victory. This means you'll be able to strike for 99% of the match with someone like John Cena, and then pull off the STFU for a quick win after working down the player's "power meter". As another symptom of the simplified gameplay, matches are far shorter in SmackDown! vs. Raw than any wrestling game we've played, with some finishing in under a minute, while longer matches stretch to about five at the very longest. Simple is good, but go too far and you start to lose the strategy of the game, as SmackDown vs. Raw feels more like a WWE version of Tekken or DOA than it does a traditional wrestling experienc
Ginger Snaps 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 Will the 360 version have downloadable content off of Xbox Live? I would want to be able to update the rosters via a Live download.
Obi Chris Kenobi 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 Yes it will, but I doubt they'll have Roster updates - as where would the incentive be to buy next years 'roster update' of SDvRaw09. It'll more likely be things like extra legends to buy from the Marketplace.
