Rush Hour 3

Recommended Posts

The rush hour movies are just too goddamned monotonous. Half of the jokes revolve around chris tucker being black, jackie chan being asian, or something between that. The other half are jokes about how chris tucker gets himself CAUGHT IN SOME WACKY SITUATION AND HAS TO RELY ON HIS BUDDIE JACKIE TO KICK SOME ASS

It'll make money but yea, it's been way too long since the last one. It should have came out in 2003 or 2004 at the latest but you can blame that on Tucker since he held out for more money.

Curiously, a guy constantly getting caught in some wacky situation is exactly why I'm looking forward to watching Mr. Bean's Holiday...

What made Rush Hour 2 work was that it had one of the hot up and comer stars in it as the villain that being Zhang Ziyi from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. It seemed that Rush Hour 3 tried to do the same this time but Tony Jaa but for whatever reason he turned them down so that leaves them with what, Vinny F'N Jones. I don't know about you but I don't think its going to work unless someone else in the cast steals the show.

The thing with Jackie Chan movies of the past is that generally you knew the plot and overall acting was going to be bad very bad but it was from Hong Kong so it gets a pass cause it has the Asian charm and anything not from Hollywood is suppose to be good, right. But now that he crossed over he has to work with people expecting him to act + bad scripts + insurance companys + stunt men + old age which gave us big budget bad movies.

I do agree with that. I've seen tons of bad asian movies, but critics always give them fair reviews because they seem to think anything with subtitles has to be good.

Maybe Chan's problem is that he's never been picky in his film choices (he has over 100 movies to his name, after all ) he's done every Hollywood project thrown his way. Then you have to factor in that he doesn't like swearing or anything that he thinks will set a bad example to kids in his movies, all you're going to be left with is these crappy family comedies that appeal to ten year olds and no one ese.

So anyone here gonna line up and watch it first thing tommorrow? I'll probably wait this one out and read all the reviews to see if it lives up to the hype.

I quite like Chris Rock, massive racist that he is, his live stuff is usually gold.

And he is hillarious in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, as well as Dogma.

I'm sure I'll get a wave of crap for this but I kind of find Chris Tucker funny.

If you want to exhile right now, I'll understand :(

He was funny in Friday, I'll give you that.

I cant believe they had midnight Thursday showings for this flick. I have a feeling studio execs are going to be in for a shock once the weekend totals are tallied. I can't see people "rushing" out to see this at all.

It'll be #1 next week certainly and I'm guessing it'll make 30-35 mil maybe even 40 but it won't be the huge box office hit that Rush Hour or Rush Hour 2 were. It's just way too long after Rush Hour 2.

Christ Tucker was a incredible stand up comic, and was funny in Rush Hour, funny in Money Talks (although a little over the top) and was pretty funny in Fifth Element (Corbin DALLAAAAAAAASSSSSS) and was funny in the first Rush Hour(Rush hour 2 was the same damn movie just in China instead of LA.)

Chris Rock, also an incredible stand up comic, was funny in Kevin Smith movies (all two of them) but hasn't gotten one smirk out of me in any other movie he has ever done. Ever.

Wait. He made me laugh twice in Pooty Tang. Both times I laughed during that movie.

Chris Rock's act just doesn't work in a scripted film environment. The funniest movie scene he has done in his life is his brief bit in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. It was the first time I'd seen him and I used to rewind the tape and watch his scene with Isaac Hayes over and over.

Tucker has always been a poor man's Rock (Rock even used to joke about it on his old HBO show, stuff like "Hey, you all really went out to see me in Rush Hour" circa 1998). But the curious thing is that Tucker works better in a film than Rock. I think some of it is that Rock never seems to be playing anything but Chris Rock, whereas Tucker can drift into various roles and at least sorta mesh into a role.

I don't think it curious. Tucker is a better actor than Chris rock, who, well...is a shitty actor. Yeah, that I'm gonna get you sucka scene was hilarious but honestly, you coulda given that part to about 1000 other black comedians and they would have nailed that. That was just a well written joke.

I wouldn't call Tucker a poor mans Rock. I wouldn't compare them at all honestly.

My friend went to see the movie today to finish off the series and walked out 30 minutes into the movie. I have not interest in seeing this movie since I didn't see the first two. I couldn't get through the first movie. It just wasn't funny.

I really don't know how you can call Tucker a poor man's Chris Rock. I mean, they're 2 totally seperate personalities and if anything, Chris Tucker is a much better actor than Chris Rock. Rock is a comedian that plays off of racism and reverse racism, and politics. Tucker is an actor/comedian that plays off of everyday life, and being a wiseass.

Saw it today. I thought it had quite a few funny moments but that's me. I'd probably still put 2 over 3 though.

In regards to Tucker and Rock, it's mostly just that when Tucker first arrived on the scene he just drew joking comparisons to Chris Rock. I guess it's just both are black and named Chris and are comedians, and since Rock came first people thought Tucker was a ripoff.

Anyway, Rush Hour 3 was an okay time waster. The French cabbie was fairly amusing, as were a few of Tucker's lines. Chan has lost a step though, I don't recall an action set piece from him in this that really blew me away. And now for a spoiler....

Was there ever a more obvious heel turn than Max Von Sydow in this movie? Having recalled Minority Report I knew from the second he was onscreen that he was going to be revealed as some sort of mastermind. Possibly the laziest heel turn in history, in that he does it but gives us no reasons, no big heel speech at the end before he gets shot, nothing.

I enjoyed it more than the second, but not as much as the first. Everything was predictable in it, but it was funny. I even cringed at some of the action, which is a rarity for me. Not a great movie, but a funny movie. Although two guys walking out said it sucked twice so everyone could hear them.

I just saw it and I thought it was pretty bad. Instead of being a fun, action movie this installment came across as forced and annoying. Had a few funny moments, but they weren't enough to save the movie.

Don't waste your time.
