It's silly to point out that it's a record, since they have held the record for losses long before this year. The thought occurs to me, when DID the Phillies set the record for losses by an MLB franchise? July 25, 1954. The Phillies dropped both games to a double header to the Cubs while the Milwaukee Braves defeated the Giants 7-5. The Phillies had first grabbed the record in 1948 but the Braves won it back with a 7th place finish in 1952. In any case, the Phils never relinquished the record again after this date. Not that they did not try. On the eve of their amazing division title run, the Braves stood just 34 losses behind the Phils following the 1990 season. Record holders following each season. 1876-81: Cincinnati Red Stockings 1882-92: Boston Braves 1893-1901: Louisville Colonels 1902: Chicago Cubs 1903-11: St. Louis Cardinals 1912: Boston Braves 1913-22: St. Louis Cardinals 1923-47: Boston Braves 1948-51: Philadelphia Phillies 1952-53: Boston Braves 1954-: Phillies

2GOLD Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Cubs acquire Jason Kendall. Not sure for what, but Kendall will be on the Cubs now. That pretty much fills that everyday catcher problem. Apparently the Cubs gave up a pretty big prospect though, still waiting on the name cause I missed it twice. Wait, it was just Bowen and cash? Really? I really REALLY hope the move back to the NL helps Kendall find his bat again. Not sure if his arm has fallen apart or not but I doubt the A's fans are going to miss Kendall.

I sorta heard it but I wasn't 100% sure. So it was apparently Bowen, Blevins and cash for Kendall. Now I'm not so sure what the hell to think because Kendall got real old real fast this year.

They could've gotten more offense from catcher if they would've traded for Brad Ausmus. I think Lincecum is Norwegian, by the way. Dutch, maybe. Perhaps Swedish.

It had been assumed that Piazza would be the one that would be dealt which could still happen if the A's waive the white flag come July 31st. Kendall actually has been halfway decent of late but he had almost no where to go but up after hitting like a pitcher for two months. Now I hope his best friend on the A's and fellow washed up veteran Mark Kotsay demands a trade.

Bruiser Chong Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 I don't have a problem with the trade. Kendall's been awful, but so have Hill and Bowen. And it's not like the Cubs gave up someone like Marshall (as was initially reported). They gave up one of their horrible catchers and a Single A guy who might be a LOOGY down the line, but isn't even the top one of those in the Cubs' farm system. As long as the Cubs don't do something stupid like re-sign him after the season, I don't see much harm. Sure I would've preferred a catcher who is sure to hit, but those aren't too common.
