Overall. I think this PPV looks pretty fucking good and could be the best Tri-brand PPV sence Backlash. maybe even better. I'am looking forward to this one.

What?!? I don't think I've seen a worse WWE card since I started watching 8 years ago.

You have the Great Khali, perhaps the single worst wrestler of the past 10 years, defending his title against Batista, the guy who just lost 3 title matches in a row to Edge and is hardly a good worker, and Kane, who nobody believes has a chance in hell of winning. The only way I could think of making this match worse is by adding Mark Henry to it.

Then you have Cena vs Lashley, which I guess could be a passable match, but involves the unbeatable and unentertaining champion Cena versus the only main event guy on RAW I'd rather see as champion less, the astonishingly horrible speaker and only somewhat decent wrestler Lashley.

Dusty Rhodes, a guy who admittedly isn't in the right shape to be wrestling at all, is in a match.

Candice vs Melina, Sandman vs Carlito..enough said.

Umaga vs Jeff Hardy won't be a horrible match, but isn't this the 4th or 5th time we've seen these two fight over the title in the past couple months?

Nitro vs Punk and MVP vs Hardy will probably be pretty good matches, but like the Cruiserweight Open, won't get very much time.

I normally order PPVs with 4 or 5 other guys, but even with the price not being very much each, not a single one of us has mentioned the possibility of ordering this PPV.

I'm trying to convince myself this show is worth driving an hour to a sports bar with a friend to see.

BAD:

Sandman/Carlito is one of the best stories they have. Sadly, neither guy can really deliver outside of a "no DQ" environment. Carlito has to win here, right? 8 minutes. Blah.

Candice and Melina are not very good.

Jeff Hardy's been pretty solid and Umaga's rather entertaining but I'm not feeling this bout, as they've done it twice before, Umaga eventually winning out despite a late Jeff rally. No way they drop the belt off Umaga so expect the same old formula.

The only thing more boring and stagnant than Randy Orton is when he's booked with a senior citizen in a tired, outdated gimmick match.

John Morrison, whatever his new awful gimmick is supposed to represent (1990's MTV VJ?), is still quite awful, and I'm sure his latest heatless feud with CM Punk will be the latest in the never-ending ECW matches that no one cares about and aren't quite sure why it's happening. I'm sure they'll do a few flips and some chain wrestling, but booking wise Morrison has to retain and there's no sugarcoating that by retaining, no one wins. Cruiserweight CM Punk as a "World Champion" is just as bad.

Kane, Batista, and Khali just screams "uppercuts, forearms, and choking" for 15 minutes.

GOOD:

Give MVP and Matt fifteen minutes and I will like the match, these guys are used to working together now, should be fun.

Cena and Lashley should have really good heat and both guys usually deliver memorable "big time" matches so I'm diggin' the title bout.

Can people STOP calling The Great Khali a transitional champion?

You come off as an idiot if you do.

A transitional champion is someone the belt is passed to as a brief transition from one champion to another. KHALI DID NOT WIN THE BELT FROM ANYONE. IT WAS VACATED. If they wanted to "transition" the title to someone, such as Batista, THEY WOULD HAVE HAD HIM JUST WIN IT.

More people watch Smackdown than order PPVs. Thus, if the plan was the bridge some gap and get the belt from Edge to Batista, they'd have done it. They're obviously more happy with Batista chasing the title than holding it, and if they wanted him to win it, he'd have won it.

Khali's the World Champ. Deal with it, it's wrestling!

Or it could be that they wanted to put the belt on Batista, but with all the vacating they feel the need for him to "beat" someone to give some validity to the title. Granted it's unlikely to happen, but it's a possibility.

And shut the hell up about Punk not being big enough to be a world champion. He's 6' 1" for Christ's sake.

Cruiserweight Title

Open Invitational

Chavo Guerrero Vs Jamie Knoble Vs Jimmy Yang Vs Funaki Vs Shannon Moore

-While this will only serve one guaranteed purpose, that as a time filler/short hot opener, it does leave open the possibility of two other opportunities here and those are, a title change which ultimately won’t make a dent in the grand scheme of things within Smackdown and this vaunted division consisting of Funaki and Moore whom are far from regulars. The other combatants in this epic showdown can at least claim to be semi-regular. For a title change to occur, it would require two needs to be fulfilled and that’s to get the title off of Chavo before Mysterio returns, if they do decide to do something with regards to that but it also suggests they could finally do something different if they decide to pursue a “program” in the division between Knoble and Yang. The story writes itself and while they’d likely never acknowledge their past, they do have one and they usually go well together. Ultimately this match won’t be much of anything other then time filler and to either get the title off Chavo in preparation for yet another deal with Mysterio or just to give the title something different as Chavo Guerrero’s current reign has been an absolute thudding waste. So, I’ll call for Knoble to take a victory here, possibly stealing a pin from Yang. Will Mysterio return here? I don’t think so and I’m not sold on them even bothering to play off Mysterio and his absence caused by Chavo. If this match goes beyond 7 minutes I would be shocked and if it goes 7 minutes, it’d be a mess anyways.

Singapore Cane Match

Sandman Vs Carlito

-For a guy who is in the doghouse, Carlito sure finds his way onto PPV events quite frequently. Sandman is Vince’s pet curiosity for the moment and while those usually are short term, it’s still relatively fresh and that should play into the outcome of this “match”. Obviously, expecting a classic or even a moderately compelling match here is a wasted effort. Pole matches are rarely good and this won’t be the exception. This should be short and succinct, probably with Carlito getting the cane first but succumbing to Sandman’s…offensive assault.

US Title Match

-This should be the match of the night which is remarkable since less then a year ago, so many people were calling for the demise of MVP. He’s obviously risen to the occasion and has drastically improved by leaps and bounds as a performer and worker inside that right. Matt is having a tremendous year, one of the best all around in the wrestling world but he hasn’t had that “breakout” match this year yet, which seems strange for a guy whom has been over and consistently at that since the late 1990’s. If we’re lucky, this will get good time but given the amount of stuff on the card tonight, I wouldn’t expect anything past 12-15 minutes. Putting the title on Matt seems like the logical step to take and against their past record, I’ll actually anticipate them to pull the trigger and give Matt his well deserved title reign here.

Bullrope Match

Dusty Rhodes Vs Randy Orton

-Who knows what we can really expect here? It’s a match designed perfectly around the huge gaping flaws in Dusty and suits Orton well enough that he doesn’t have to actually wrestle to carry someone like Rhodes. Orton is more the passable in this “hardcore” type affairs and we all know about Rhodes’ ability to bleed and flop around. Regardless of his age, Dusty can still do that. The heat could be good here and Dusty generally has the crowd going in about 80% of the markets. Is San Jose one of them? I’ll expect Orton to run over Dusty here on route to his title match with Cena next month, Cody obviously will play his hand here and I’ll expect him to just “throw in the towel” for his dad.

IC Title

Umaga Vs Jeff Hardy

-The very definition of meaningless match. We’ve seen this a handful of times already and it’s the same story, again and again. Jeff will do his pretty bumps, the crowd will go bananas for him and Umaga doles out his savage triumvirate of destruction (Samoan Drop, Running BUTT charge, spike).

Women’s Title

Candice Vs Melina

-Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury are history, which should be the case for Melina and her status as the lead heel diva. Candice has been passable enough with her efforts, while admirable still leave a lot left to be desired. This shouldn’t be too long and hopefully puts the kibosh on this tedious lackluster program and we see an ascension from someone not named Melina.

ECW Title

John Morrison Vs CM Punk

-I don’t care about the name and slight gimmick change since it’s virtually a lateral move anyways. It doesn’t absolve Morrison/Nitro’s horrible delivery and complete inability to sell himself with the promo. This should be passable match but it’s irrelevant because it’s just going to push toward the blow-off at the next PPV. So, expect a 10 minute paint by numbers affair here resulting in either Punk going to far and drawing himself a DQ in the process or Morrison simply gets a sneak win.

World Championship

Batista Vs Khali Vs Kane

-Things were already looking pretty bad with the original planned matches but Edge’s untimely injury allowed for those two nightmares to fuse into a complete and total disaster. When Kane is the best worker in a match, it’s never a good thing. People might be attracted to the sexy appeal of a train wreck but this won’t be sexy. Some say Kane deserves a gold watch title reign but it won’t happen here and probably never will. Batista-Khali was supposed to be something important and keeping the title on Khali allows for that huge one on one showdown we were robbed off.

WWE Title

John Cena Vs Lashley

-The growing pulse of the Anti-Cena lunatics will beat faster after Cena takes another guy out of his way. He’s still the top guy for a reason. Cena makes a lot of crap look good and Lashley should be next in his line of mini-miracles. The heat should be pretty good for this. Cena is on a path to Orton and Lashley can drop down in the line right with Kennedy after tonight.

I have a feeling that this could end up being one of those PPVs that everyone bashes after looking at it on paper, only for it to actually end up being a great show once it's all said and done. I could be wrong, that wouldn't be a huge shock, but I can't help but feel that people just might really end up enjoying this show.

Hell, for all we know maybe WWE will try extra hard tonight to put on a great show after the shit the industry has been through over the past month.

So... anyone got a stream? VanHalen said he'd have one for every PPV, right? I've been away for a week and a half and I have no clue what's going on, but I want to see this show, trainwreck or not.

I'm gonna go check the show out. The sports bar's pretty nice and last year's Bash was decent, aside from 30 minutes of watching Big Show in a wooden cage.

I hope the backstage segments are at a minimum and the wrestling matches that need to deliver (Main Event, ECW, IC, US) do so.

I hope there is a Khali/Batista match at SS in the PUNJABI PRISON OF DOOM. Seriously, doesn't Khali actually have to be in his own match at some point?

Regardless of the precise definition of transition champ, I don't think Khali will end up being one. I think they are retarded enough to keep it on him until WM or so when UT comes back and destroys him. Though it's hard to imagine Khali main eventing a WM.

John Cena vs. Bobby Lashley for WWE title

This will need to be laid out move for move beforehand, and will probably be better than it has any right to be. I expect a non-finish or a title change, with a rematch coming at Summerslam

Great Khali vs. Batista vs. Kane for World title

Any longer than ten minutes and they'll be asking for trouble. I think this one will either be better than anyone expects or a flat out stinker. Khali to retain by pinning Kane seems the obvious finish. Where they go from here is probably Khali defending against Batista at Summerslam, where they'll have a fuck finish to keep the feud going.

John Morrison vs. C.M. Punk for ECW title

I don't see the Morrison gimmick catching on or doing anything for the former Johnny Nitro. Nitro to retain in some fashion with Punk getting a rematch at Summerslam for the likely title win.

Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy for IC title

It'll be good, but nobody will care if it's not. Jeff is there to sell his ass off and get Umaga over as a monster. Umaga to retain.

Dusty Rhodes vs. Randy Orton in a bullrope match

I'll be stunned if Dusty doesn't bleed. If Orton is indeed going to beat Cena for the title at Summerslam, then he's got to win.

Candice Michelle vs. Melina for the women's title

Piss break.

MVP vs. Matt Hardy for the U.S. title

If the idea for Summerslam and beyond is a Khali/Batista feud, then MVP will probably retain. MVP is likely to retain anyway, though.

Carlito vs. Sandman in a cane on a pole match

It'll be short enough to get people going but hopefully not long enough to stink. I can see Sandman winning here and Carlito going over in a rematch at Summerslam. If not, maybe Regal helps Carlito win to set up Duggan making the save and we'll see the Sandman/Duggan versus Carlito/Regal tag match at Summerslam

Chavo Guerrero vs. Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Funaki vs. Jamie Noble vs. Shannon Moore for the cruiserweight title

Chavo to pin Funaki or Moore in a match that will be good but that the crowd won't care about.

Unlike previous Bull Rope Matches, the only way to win this war at The Bash is by pinfall or submission. The option of touching all four turnbuckles in succession has been eliminated.

Way to go out on a limb there. I'd be more shocked if he won by a schoolboy.

If Orton loses here, then it makes Cena/Lashley II at Summerslam a virtual lock to happen, because Orton will, or should be, facing Dusty or Cody at Summerslam to conclude or keep the feud going.

Possible spoiler:

When they did the run-through of Cena vs. Lashley in Visalia on Friday night, Lashley did a heel turn after the match. I don't know that they are doing it tonight, but I do know it was something up for discussion last week and obviously something being tested out.

I'm pretty sure the Cruiserweight Open is in the "Tag Team Turmoil" format, like what they did at No Way Out, a series of singles matches. The WWE.com preview for the match says Chavo is defending the title in "the same type of match he won it in."

This is just one of those shows that really has nothing to really draw as "special" - I cannot stand either Cena or Lashley, that match sounds unbearably uninteresting to me. There really isn't a good finish to that one. Probably one of the worst sounding ppvs in years, to me. The undercard US/IC title matches sound bland and should (and have been) on the regular shows. Women's and CW title matches are filler to the max. Carlito v. Sandman is an extremely bland feud that doesnt need to be showcased on ppv. The world title matches all have zero to hardly ANY compelling story/program with the workers, although part of me likes Kane/Batista/Khali a hell of a lot better than the Batista/Khali and Edge/Kane lineup, but nonetheless, still very much uncompelling. Like someone said, the only match I can even see ppv worthy is Dusty v. Orton in a bullrope match, and thats a sad state of affairs. I wonder how different this card is, compared to the plan of action before the Benoit mess? I know there was talk this ppv was going to be the show that it would be revlealed who was behind the Vince death angle, so that may explain why it comes off so bland sounding on paper.

A hookup to a live feed of the show would certainly be appreciated, I looked on Sopcast, and I dont think its going to be on there tonight like the TNA show was last weekend.

On the topic of Carlito, wouldn't it be something if Scott Hall interfered in that match to get revenge on Carlito from their match a week ago? Ok, I know that will never happen but I'd mark out.

It wasn't publicized, but he did kind of get his revenge by winning that federations belt in a three-way with Carlito and Apollo.

MVP won. Big shock there. Decent match though. The chat concensus is that his finisher is about as good as an Eric Watts dropkick though.
