Phils acquire 2B Tadahito Iguchi from the White Sox in exchange for minor league Michael Dubee. Dubee's discussed as a sleeper at times but I'm not going to fret giving up a relief prospect in the low minors.

 

 

At least we now know that the real Kenny Williams is alive and well and that the evil imposter that surfaced from 2005-2006 has been eradicated.

Yanks and O's will finish the suspended game from June 28th, in the 8th inning with the Yanks up 8-6. Then the regularly scheduled game will be played after that.

 

Help me out here because I'm a little confused. Why was this game "suspended" instead of just rain-shortened? Because the Yankees came from behind and took the lead in the inning the game was suspended in? Meaning the Orioles need the chance to play the bottom of the inning in case they can catch up?

 

If that's the case, are they just finishing the inning or playing to the end of the game?

It's covered under Rule 4.12(a)(5):

SUSPENDED GAMES.

(a) A game shall become a suspended game that must be completed at a future date if the game is terminated for any of the following reasons:

(5) Weather, if a regulation game is called while an inning is in progress and before the inning is completed, and the visiting team has scored one or more runs to take the lead, and the home team has not retaken the lead;

Royals outfielder shoots TV reporter in face with pellet

Updated: Jul.27, 2007, 9:36 pm EDTKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Royals outfielder Emil Brown hit a television reporter near the eye with a pellet from a small plastic gun in the Kansas City clubhouse Friday afternoon.

 

A team spokesman said Brown didn't mean to shoot KMBC sports reporter Karen Kornacki with the plastic pellet gun. Brown started in left field Friday night against the Texas Rangers.

 

"It was certainly an accident," Royals spokesman David Holtzman said. "He wasn't shooting at anybody."

 

Kornacki was interviewing shortstop Tony Pena Jr. before the game when she felt the pellet hit near her left eye, said Gary Roberts, KMBC's assistant news director. Kornacki ended the interview and left the locker room immediately.

 

An assistant team trainer treated Kornacki and gave her an ice pack. Roberts said the station sent Kornacki, who has been with the ABC affiliate for more than 20 years, to see an eye doctor.

 

"I don't think she's seriously injured," Roberts said. "She was certainly a little shaken by it."

 

Royals spokesman Toby Cook said the team apologized and was investigating.

 

"We're terribly sorry it happened," Cook said. "I don't know actually what happened. I wasn't there. The powers that be are looking into it."

At FOXSports.com, Ken Rosenthal reports that the Red Sox had a three-way deal in place to acquire White Sox OF Jermaine Dye, who will consider waiving his limited no-trade protection in exchange for ‘guarantees about playing time and incentive bonuses.’

 

 

According to Rosenthal, the three-way deal fell through due to the un-named third team involved.

I'm going to the Phillies game tonight, J.D. Durbin vs. Shane Youman. Tomorrow is Scranton/Rochester, with Phil Hughes scheduled to make another rehab appearance. The Yankees next need a fifth starter on August 3, exactly five days after that Hughes start. Joe Torre hasn't announced Igawa's rotation replacement, but you can do the math. Ryan Mullins starts for the Red Wings. Mullins did not make Baseball America's list of top 30 Twins prospects, but he jumped from the Midwest League to Triple A in a single season.

A Reds' fan asked me for a scouting report on Jay Bruce and Joey Votto. Honestly, I don't have much of a scouting eye and there is not much I can add on one or two games beyond what you see in the box score. Bruce and Votto made Baseball America's mid-season top 25 so analysts more trained than I think they are top prospects. Votto hit two home runs including a monster shot on Thursday night. He could probably fill in at first base for the Reds right now. Bruce could fill in at center field right now though reports are that his future position is right field. With Bruce and Josh Hamilton in the fold, the Reds should consider biting on a Ken Griffey Jr. offer if the opportunity presents.

The probability of any combination of wins would be low, since there are ten different possibilities (road team winning anywhere from 0-9 games). Without digging into texts though, such swings over a short stretch of games is not uncommon at all.

The Wheeler/Wiggington trade makes the best sense if the Astros are either planning on trading Ensberg or Loretta or are planning on packaging Wiggy with a starter in a trade to a contending team. Or maybe the Astros think that they're still in it and just figured that a right-handed Mike Lamb was exactly what they needed. I like Wiggington and I think he'll be good for the 'Stros. And I'm also glad that it means that Ensberg will probably be gone and that neither Qualls nor Lidge will be dealt.
