The Ghost of bps21

Just because I spent the last 4 hours at a bar discussing it...

Metallica around 1989

Ah, I said the same thing earlier in the thread. Its cool that someone agrees.

After watching tapes of them playing live on the Binge & Purge box set, I have no doubts that in 1989, Metallica ruled the metal world. Especially when they opened with Blackened... just gave me chills.

I would love to have seen Nirvana or Alice in Chains' Unplugged shows. Zeppelin in the early 70s would probably be number one. Also, I'm surprised at how many people said Faith No More. I didn't realize they had that big of a following, I know next to nothing about them.

Guns N' Roses 1998 show at The Ritz. That was pretty much their peak, IMO.

"Anyway, I'm gonna dedicate this song real quick. And I'm not gonna say anything offensive so that we can make it on TV. This is the song that is not dedicated to drinking or drug addiction or any of that kind of stuff. This song is basically about a walk in the park. This is something called 'Nightrain'."

Ha.

The Misfits, '83 or so, just before Danzig broke the band up. You've got everything of theirs worth a damn to hear live (outside of the few good Graves tunes), plus the inclusion of their later, more hardcore/thrash-y stuff.

Slayer...wait, I've already seen them plenty of times, and each set has been amazing.

I got it. S.O.D. during the taping of Live at Budokan. It's a great live album, and it's fucking S.O.D.

The Clash 1982

I would have loved to have seen The Who/The Clash tour that year. I know The Who was without Keith Moon but I think The Who have been at the very least a good live band in any of their incarnations.

Has Prince been mentioned? I would have loved to see him around the time of Sign O' The Times, 87 or 88ish. Or on one of the tours where The Time opened up.

I got a book that has pictures of all of the old posters from the old Fillmore East and Fillmore West from the mid 60s to the early 70s and there are some really cool bills I would have loved to see. Like Jefferson Airplane with B.B. King and The Who opening from 1969. The Kinks with Elton John opening during Elton John's first U.S. tour in 1970. The ultra bizarre bill with Chuck Berry headlining and Jethro Tull opening. The Allman Brothers with The J. Geils Band opening from 71. Otis Redding with a young Grateful Dead opening. All sorts of crazy, wacked out bills like that.

AC/DC during the Let There Be Rock tour. My dad said this was the best concert he'd ever seen.

Peter Gabriel during the mid 80's.

Stevie Ray Vaughn, at any time.

The Who during the Quadrophinia tour.

At the time, the Korn/Tool tour during 96 would have been awesome to go to.
