Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2007 My fucking girlfriend will randomly break out into Wiggles songs because she watches it now and then at work (she works at a daycare with infants and toddlers). I don't really have guilty pleasures per se, but there is shit that is out of the ordinary and unexpected of me to listen to. I love Tom Petty, go nuts every time I hear "Scatman" (that cheesy club song from the mid-90's), and don't mind Muse too much (that one single they had not too long ago that sounded like Nintendo music until near the end when it breaks out into nothing but singing, and then a monstrous groove riff), or even The Strokes. Oh, there's one band I'm not too open about listening to: Helloween. They're everything I dislike about power metal, but not to the nth degree that shit bands like Dragonforce are. "Falling Higher" and "Lavdate Dominvm" are just great tunes, man.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2007 I forgot to mention KISS, they're another huge guilty pleasure. But that's mostly due to them being my favorite band when I was 12. I don't think I'll ever dislike that band.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2007 It's hard to dislike them. At least the REAL KISS (Peter, Gene, Paul, and Ace).
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2007 I actually like some non-make up years KISS (Though what I like from those years could fit on one EP).
Guest Gym Class Fallout Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I have an unabashed love and unironic love for yacht rock. Is Steely Dan considered yacht rock? They seem like they're too cool for that sort of designation (well at least Donald Fagen does). I was on way too much of a Steely Dan kick this summer. It was my jogging soundtrack because I never felt like scrolling into the middle of the alphabet.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 John Mayer. I think I'm a bit of a sucker for dumb, pretty, relaxing music and whilst there are a lot of artists who fit the latter two aspects really well that I have no problem saying I like (Mirah, for example), I think John Mayer's music is thoroughly lame for the most part and yet I enjoy it anyway. Except for "Your Body is a Wonderland," that song was just fucking awful.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I would think at least some of their stuff is. They have to be considered yacht rock solely for the fact that they regularly employed Michael McDonald to sing backup. Michael McDonald is the undisputed King of Yacht Rock. CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 go nuts every time I hear "Scatman" I have a buddy who's the same way, and he brought it out of me as well. He'd often tease me about the guilty pleasures on my computer when he was over. Sample convo: Jay: Collins, what's with the My Humps? Me: Guilty pleasure. Jay: Ahhhh understood. Don't share your computer with me, though. You're never at my house, so I have tonnes of Matchbox 20 on it.

They have to be considered yacht rock solely for the fact that they regularly employed Michael McDonald to sing backup. Michael McDonald is the undisputed King of Yacht Rock. I've started watching Yacht Rock, and my verdict is that this would've been awesome if it Bob Odenkirk and David Cross were behind it. The acting is pretty damn bad with these guys, and some of them don't even look like who they're portraying (Steely Dan in particular). Hollywood Steve cracks me up, though. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Odd thing is even though I'm a fan of yacht rock, I haven't felt compelled to watch Yacht Rock yet. Speaking of yacht rock, does anybody know if there's a good greatest hits collection of 10cc compiling their early stuff with their later yacht rock stuff? All the compilations I've seen so far focus on one or the other.
hyperchord24 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2007 I'm getting into Killswitch Engage, and I feel guilty about it because I saw one of their videos on TV and thought they were Sevendust. I'll admit I gave them a second listen because the lead singer is black. Because it's something you don't see everyday, I find that interesting. Plus, CM Punk's theme is growing on me, making me feel ultra-markish.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2007 I don't know if it counts as a guilty pleasure but I nearly bought the new Ringo Starr's Greatest Hits compilation and definitely would have bought it if were cheaper than $14. Now I know he's definitely got the weakest solo career of the Beatles, but nobody can deny the sheer awesomeness of "Back Off Boogaloo"

Plus, CM Punk's theme is growing on me, making me feel ultra-markish. I was rather impressed the first time I watched a Killswitch Engage video. I think it was their video for "Rose of Sharyn" (the one with the badass bleeding trees) and I was rather surprised to see that the vocalist was black. It's something you don't see a lot of in rock. When they were still relative nobody's, they had "Darkness Falls" added to the Freddy vs Jason soundtrack, and I've been hooked ever since. Plus, they did a respectable cover of Holy Diver. The Goo Goo Dolls are pretty good as well. Whatever became of Candlebox? I thought their album with "Far Behind" and "You" was good.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Oh and I love The Langley Schools Music Project cover of "Desperado", even more than the original. If I ever make a quirky western, I'll be sure to use it in the soundtrack.

King Kamala 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 oh come on man, he was the "funny Beatle"! And it's not like anybody had high expectations for a great solo career like the other three.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 My "fuck off" was re: his solo career. I've no beef with Ringo during his time with the Beatles; in fact, I think, at this board if not elsewhere, I'm in the minority in thinking his vocal contributations to the White Album are among that release's highlights. Guest Gym Class Fallout Report post Posted October 4, 2007 no guilt No guilt because the intro of that song really just kicks ass. The way each layer builds on top of the last is really well done. You've got the sawtooth at the bottom, hinting at the bass line that's yet to come, with the main synth going on top of that, then the string-synth, then the drums, then the vocalisations, then the actual bass and lyrics, then the main beat, then finally the extra percussion and keyboard lines. That's a wedding cake of awesome. I'm totally serious about how much I like this song. SERIOUS AS CANCER
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2007 They're everything I dislike about power metal, but not to the nth degree that shit bands like Dragonforce are. Ha ha. I was just over on the secret board saying how I was a bit unhappy that you were the one backing me the hardest on Dethalbum as album of the year, cause your taste is a little weird. But then I said it was ok, cause we actually do share an affinity for way over the top metal. (By the way, I love Municipal Waste, my favorite description being "Sam Kinison fronting a thrash band") I closed with "I bet he likes Dragonforce too." Apparently I was off on that one. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2007 I guess my guilty pleasure is the fact that when it comes to the radio, I like way more rap/hip hop then any other genre. A lot of the songs are catchy, and they are good for the parties I host. I mean, come on what am I supposed to play in the background when I have people over, Kill Your Mother, Rape Your Dog? I mean, I have a circle of friends that would probably be down for that, but for most parties we host, hip hop is more appropriate for the ambience.
