24 -- Season 7

Recommended Posts

Obviously, we're a few months before the Season 7 premiere of 24...but there was a press statement released by FOX today that talks about a huge spoiler for the upcoming season. While it does seem a little suspicious, sources like TV Guide and IGN have picked up on it, so I'm going to put the rumor up here for some discussion.

Copied from IGN. Read at your own risk.

September 19, 2007 - If you fear 24 spoilers, you better look away, but keep in mind, this news was in a press release put out by FOX, and will no doubt be highly promoted.

FOX has announced the official return date for 24: Season 7, Sunday January 13th. That's not the big news though. The big news is that Tony Almeida is back! Yes, the character, played by Carlos Bernard, sure seemed dead in Season 5, but it seems we were mistaken.

From the press release:

"Day 7" of 24 will continue the show's unique and trend-setting format with compelling new elements. With CTU dismantled, the show's setting moves to Washington, DC, where Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) faces trial for his actions in the pursuit of justice. Bauer's day gets off to a shocking start when former colleague Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard), last seen in "Day 5," returns after being left for dead by a terrorist conspirator in CTU's infirmary.

"Tony's uncertain fate near the end of 'Day 5' left the door open for his return," said executive producer/show-runner Howard Gordon. "And since there was no silent clock at the conclusion of his last appearance - the 24 tribute to a major character's demise - we always kept this as a possibility."

The press release also confirms that Mary Lynn Rajskub ("Chloe O'Brian") and James Morrison ("Bill Buchanan") will be returning in Season 7, though CTU is no longer part of the show.

As for other cast members, here's a bit more from the press release:

Bernard's return highlights a list of notable cast members clocking in for Season Seven, including the previously announced Cherry Jones (The Heiress) as President Allison Taylor and Janeane Garofalo (The Larry Sanders Show) as FBI Agent Janis Gold. Colm Feore (Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee) will play First Gentleman Henry Taylor and Bob Gunton (Desperate Housewives) is White House Chief of Staff Ethan Kanin.

FBI Agents assigned to the team investigating the crisis befalling Bauer include Garofalo's Agent Gold in addition to Annie Wersching (General Hospital) as Agent Renee Walker, Jeffrey Nordling (Dirt) as Agent Larry moss and Rhys Coiro (Entourage) as Agent Sean Hillinger. John Billingsley (Prison Break) portrays security specialist Michael Latham.

24 resets the clock for Season Seven with a special two-night premiere event Sunday, Jan. 13 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Monday, Jan. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.

Personally, I'm excited for it.

They thought about it for last year. TV Guide even hinted at it, but they backed out at the last minute.

I can buy it. It wasn't definitive in the least.

I'm very excited for the season, overall. The lack of CTU should give a much needed breath of fresh air.

I like the addition of Rhys Coiro from Entourage. I think he could make a good dickheaded agent if they decide to go that route.

It just seems funny to me that they're pretty much dropping every shred of Season 6. All that time we spent with Nadia and Morris and Tom Lennox and Vice President Daniels....that none of them will really be a factor this season.

The fact that it's a girl is not necessarily bad.

Karen Hayes or Sandra Palmer = very very bad.

I'm just very thankful it didn't go in that direction.

And I'd call Wayne Palmer gimmicked.

I guess I'll spoiler tag just in case.

I think this could work without being too goofy. I assume that Tony's "death" will be explained as he was actually injected with something that obviously put him out enough to make him seem dead, but he came out of it by the end of Day 5. Since Jack was shipped to China by the day's end, he never found out that Tony was still alive. In Day 6, you can argue that the subject just never came up, what with all the happenings of that day (nuclear bombs, Audrey's return, etc.).

I'm officially excited. Since they've basically admitted last year sucked compared to past years, I assume they won't completely screw this season up. Considering Tony lost Michelle due to just being a friend of Jack's, I assume Tony will be pretty pissed at Jack.

Tell me this show isn't like 7 straight days - each day being one season. That'd mean 3 different President's in less than a week. No, I don't watch this show because I never seem to be home when it's on. :\

According to Wikipedia:

Season 2 is 18 months after season 1.

Season 3 is 3 years after season 2.

Season 4 is 18 months after season 3.

Season 5 is 18 months after season 4.

Season 6 is 20 months after season 5.

I think the long gap between seasons 2 and 3 was to try to make it more believeable that Kim could be working at CTU.

It obviously didn't work.

Least offensive Kim season though.

She was already there so it didn't require the illogical cut aways to Kim vs. Crazy wife killer, or Kim vs. Nature.

once again, relying on Wikipedia for answers (always doubtful), Jack Bauer was born in 1966. So, let's say Season 1 was "real time" and actually took place in 2001. It's been about 9 years between season 1 and 6, so that would be 2010.

Which makes him 44 as of last season. So he'll be either 45 or 46 in season 7.

Edit: Actually, according to Executive producer Howard Gordon, season 7 is taking place 3 years after season 6, so make Jack 47 in season 7.

There's nothing Jack Bauer can't handle. Kiefer Sutherland, on the other hand...

The 24 star was arrested for misdemeanor driving under the influence in the early-morning hours Tuesday, after failing a field sobriety test, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Sutherland was stopped at the corner of La Cienega and Beverly at 1:35 a.m., after officers spotted the Emmy winner making an illegal U-turn. After making the stop, the officers issued the actor a field sobriety test, which he failed.

"It would be premature to comment at this time," Sutherland's publicist, Evelyn Karamanos, said of the incident.

According to police, the Breathalyzer revealed the 40-year-old's blood-alcohol level to be more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, TMZ reported.

Earlier in the night, the actor, along with fellow network talent, was spotted at the Fox Fall Eco-Casino party, held at the nearby Area nightclub.

LAPD officers arrested the actor at the scene and transported him to the Hollywood police station, where he was formally booked on the misdemeanor charges at 4:09 a.m.

He was released at 5:42 a.m. after posting $25,000 bail, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Deparment Website. TMZ reported that authorities deemed Sutherland "cooperative and mellow" during the encounter.

The arrest marks Sutherland's second DUI in the past five years. He was also busted in September 2004 and pleaded no contest. He was sentenced to 60 months' probation and 50 hours of community service. As he is now a repeat offender, if he's convicted on his current charge, he must serve a mandatory minimum of five days in jail.

The actor is due in court on Oct. 16.

The new trailer for 24: Season 7 has been leaked.

I've gotta say....Tony looks bad-ass in this trailer. Whether they stick with him as the villain for the whole season or decide to turn him good, I don't know. But I think the Tony vs. Jack storyline has great, great potential.

The big question: Will Tony's Cubs mug make an appearance this season?

In all seriousness though, I'm really looking forward to it. I still get the feeling that by mid-season, they'll have reverted back to the typical formula of Jack out in the field, call Chloe/Bill for CTU type assistance.
