dubq Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Loved it. There were a few wierd looking green/blue screen effects that took away from a few scenes, but otherwise it was a very good flick, IMO. Very close to the graphic novel's storyline as well.

I'm pretty much thinking of the books of Anne Rice, the adaptations of said books, and the fdact that there hasn't been a movie where a vampire is scary in a long time.
dubq Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Plus aside from the uberfag vampires of the Anne Rice novels/movies, the vampires in Blade = bland. The vampires in Underworld = even more bland. Let's not get into the ilk of Dracula 2000, etc. The vampires in this movie were pure killing machines. No wasting time with games, comedy, self-loathing or sex, just pure carnage. Loved it!
bobobrazil1984 Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 It was pretty good. Very gory. I also liked that the vampires were just brutal. They looked creepy too. They did something subtle there, look human-ish but somehow just 'off'. The most badass part was that high up birds eye shot scrolling across the town while you just see vampire figures killing people left and right, people running away screaming, etc.

I thought it was pretty good overall and was happy to see a horror movie that wasn't a remake, slasher flick, torture porn or sequel.
Downhome Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 I saw this after GBG earlier tonight. I don't know anything about the source material, but I really enjoyed the film for what it was. I loved the presentation of the vampires, like some of you guys have already mentioned. I also really enjoyed the overall look of the film, and especially the overhead shot, also mentioned before. My only minor complaint is that there were times when the film really felt rushed, like time was going by in the movie world far too fast. I know that it had to cover an entire month, but still. It's not a major complaint, but it's something I guess. Also, if I have to mention anything else, I guess I would have liked a bit more backstory on everyone - both the people and the vampires. Again though, that's not a major complaint for a flick like this. I highly recommend it for sure. If you are a fan of vampires, I'm not sure how you can't find something to like about it.
The Buzz Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 While I still favor John Carpenter's Vampires as my all-time favorite vampire movie, and yes I know that that movie is one that most either love or hate. I think 30 days of night was a good balls to the wall, take no prisoners vampire flick. The graphic novel was good source material, and the movie did a good job bringing it to life.

I got flashes of Sarah Polly's character driving down the highway where that other car gets t-boned into a gas station and - BOOM!

DrVenkman PhD Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Approximately one of the nine people I saw this with last night liked it (they didn't hate it, they just called it "ok"), and I'm pretty sure the one just liked it because it starred Josh Hartnett, her reason for wanting to go. I liked it though, especially the above mentioned bird's eye view scene.

I like Forums Posted November 10, 2007 Report Posted November 10, 2007 I liked the movie but I kind of found it hard to believe how freely it seemed that the group of survivors could move from building to building. They couldn't even sneeze when in the attic but were chopping up vamps in other scenes with no other vampires getting suspicious.

Also, the vamps really should have found them...they could have just gone house to house and eventually find them, they had a good two weeks after the first attack to find Hartnett's crew. BUt little nagging things like that aside, it was a solid movie. I enjoyed the look of the vamps, and the overall creepy nature of the film. No lame jokes distracting from the atmosphere. One question: who was that kid that they saved near the end? I don't recall the child anywhere else in the film.

Especially loved how intense, and how the film had such a great atmosphere, and yep seriously violent (over here it’s only a 15). It’s amazing how much you find your self giving a shit about the characters. Danny Houston put out a great performance as the lead vampire. Hartnett impressed too, this is probably his best role since The Black Dahlia(and even then that was only for his narration. Great voice for it)
