I was reading through Edge's Wikipedia entry, and it mentions his real life friend and storyline brother Christian, which made me think, now they aren't in the same promotion, if Edge were ever to go to TNA or both found themselves in another promotion one day, would they still be 'brothers' or would another promotion not want to use anothers storyline?

Has it ever happened somewhere else where family members have joined another company and that company completely ignore it?

Jarrett referred to Christian's "brother up North" having a short title reign when Christian was challenging for the belt at a PPV in 2006 (Against All Odds?). Meltzer threw a fit about how dumb and business exposing that was.

Maybe I'm naive, but it's not the 90's or 80's anymore. What's the big deal about ALMOST mentioning the "WWE" here?

I think Meltzer's point was WWE had already told their audience on kayfabed television (as in the weekly TV, not something mentioned on a "Before they were Superstars" DVD or Confidential piece) that Edge and Christian were just tag team partners and not brothers, so Jarrett calling them brothers felt "fake".

I don't remember this.

Wow I missed the whole them not being brothers thing on WWE.

I believe he said it in the Newsletter review of the show.

WWE never right out said "these guys aren't brothers", but when Edge and Christian were both heels on Raw, they were constantly called "former tag team partners" without a single mention of being brothers.

Yeah...the "brothers" thing with Edge and Christian eventually just kind of faded away. I don't think it was even really mentioned by the time they broke up as a tag team.

How about when WCW made Raven and Hak (Sandman) brothers? That kind of goes the opposite way. You could also put Ronnie Garvin and Jimmy Garvin in that same category, though there was at least some type of family connection there (step-brothers I think?).

Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake were portrayed as brothers early in their careers, if I'm not mistaken, and that was of course never done in WWF, even when they were shown as best of friends.

Grandma Edna was a regular unseen character in the summer of 2001. I think she was first brought up either when Edge won KOTR or the IC title. She always hung up when Edge gave the phone. I think she died sometime later when Christian turned on Edge.

What about when Owen wrestled as the Blue Blazer, the first time; does that count? For that matter, did WWF/E ever acknowledge that Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo are related?

No, when he had his first run in WWF, he was just "The Blue Blazer" and no reference was made to his real identity, as far as I know. They may have mentioned him having success in other parts of the world, but that's about it.

Savage and Genius/Poffo were never acknowledged as brothers in WWF, as far as I know.

One other one I just thought of...when the Four Horsemen were first taking off, the Andersons claimed Ric Flair was a distant family cousin of theirs, but I think that was pretty much forgotten once the group was up and running. Of course, in kayfabe terms, you could think the Andersons were just lying to justify themselves helping Flair to begin with.

It was talked about later in the mid to late 90s I remember Tony talking about Flair being a cousin to Arn right around the time they started to feud.

no when e and c broke up jr , made a big deal of christian turning on his brother and attacking him.

I was gonna say the same thing. A big deal was definitely made, asking how Christian could do that to his own blood. That's what the whole turn angle was based off of. He was jealous of his brother.
