You know, if the Packers simply hadn't blown it vs. the Bears a couple weeks ago they would be unbeaten right now. It's hard to explain how they are doing this since they don't really seem like a real good team when you watch. Favre has to be in the MVP conversation though.

And, yeah, the opening piece with Favre's wife was nauseating and Kornheiser does not seem to know how to praise someone without just ramming it down your throat for four quarters. At least the object of his affection was actually involved in the game this week. But the TD pass in overtime was awesome and it's not that hard to imagine Green Bay being the lamb led to slaughter coming out of the NFC in January.

I didn't get to see the game until the closing moments of the 4th Qtr. Did something happen to DeShawn Wynn? I heard his neck was fine and he would get the bulk of the carries. I saw the stats and he had 1 carry for 1 yard. Grant ran for over 100.

It's crazy to believe that the Packers are 6-1 but they still need a permanant running back that will consistantly be there for the team when the passing game is not working. Favre is amazing though and it sucks that Brady is having an awesome year or I would say that Favre has a legitmate chance to become a 4 time MVP.

 

The big test for the Packers will be the back to back Thursday games....The first one against the Lions, then against the Cowboys (how this game is stuck on NFL Network sucks, can this game be switched to a Sunday Nighter with the flexibile scheduling?)

Right now it is just inconceivable to think an NFC team has a chance to win the superbowl this year. I mean if you take the top five teams in the NFC, they all seem to play each other tough, and play some pretty close, entertaining games, and then any one of them goes and plays New England and just gets blown off the field. The Cowboys seem like the best in the NFC, but they haven't really played tough competition yet, besides the Pats(The Giants as well but they are another team who hasn't really beaten anyone either). They probably had the best showing thus far against the Pats, but it just seemed to anger the Patriots as a team and they disposed of them as soon as Dallas thought they had some type of chance in that game.

 

I am not even sure it is worth having your team go to the superbowl as the NFC representative unless Brady slips in the show and breaks his throwing arm, and/or Peyton Manning buys a motorcycle and gets in an accident.

I've got to agree with Mike here. I almost wish the Packers were having a 1-5 type season instead of 5-1 because no team outside of the Colts and Pats has a chance at the championship this year. It really feels like whoever wins the NFC this year is just going to be a sacrificial lamb for one of those teams, so in a way I'm trying to think of it as that I'm going to just be really happy to finish second place at best.

 

This, by the way, is why it's absolutely terrible to have a dominant team in the league, and why parity is necessary. It doesn't feel any fun to watch the season when everyone knows the outcome.

 

Although, of course, it felt just like this in 1998. But this is the Pats and not the Vikings, so, not looking forward to this.

The NFL can't win for losing when it comes to the parity vs. dynasty issue

 

2002: "Boo! We hate parity! We want to see a dominant team like the 80's 49ers and 90's Cowboys"

 

2005: "Boo! The Pats dynasty sucks! We want parity!"

It's hard to argue that there is much parity right now. You have two teams that are so much better than everyone else and three or four more who aren't contenders, but can bitch slap the rest of the league. You have a couple of teams that could legitimately not win a game. There is nothing equal about the teams that comprise the 2007 NFL.

And the Rams have the talent of a winning team, they just got fucked by injuries and probably don't have the right coaching staff. There's something to be said for certain teams just operating better under the constraints of the current system.
