NoCalMike Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 I'm really worried about the Thanksgiving game. Hard to say it's a trap game because Detroit looks like they're making the playoffs this year, but it's at home and a tradition for them, and I have a feeling that offense is going to have something up their sleeve for Green Bay's defense, and it worries me some. This week will be the test to see if the Pack's offense has finally balanced itself out, because they're going to need that running game in the second half as much as they're going to need Favre's arm in the first to make Detroit play catch up later. I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose, but either way it should be a hell of a game. Late in the season for a first divisional matchup, too. I wouldn't be worried. Detroit has wilted against good defenses. Remember this game... Redskins 34 Detroit 3? Keep in mind, that was the "mighty" offense of the Washington Redskins. The Lions have had a favorable schedule up to this point, it gets more difficult. They will probably be an 8-8 or 9-7 team. All the factors you stated might keep it close for a a quarter or two, but I think Green Bay will find enough to work with to run away with the game after halftime.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Are you kidding? Detroit is better than that year Mike McMahon almost upset the Packers. I wouldn't say Detroit would wilt against the Packers. The key is whether Detroit is being coached by Rod Marinelli or by Mike Martz. If all Detroit does is pass, then I'd say this is a Packers win, but if they mix in the running game, it should be close and could go Detroit's way.
milliondollarchamp Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 I'm an Eagles fan and i can not wait to see how bad the Patriots destroy us I'm in favor of Moss scoring another 4 TD's. I think other players will shine because in the past the Eagles have done a good job defending Moss.
Cheech Tremendous Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 The Patriots are 23.5 point favorites against the Eagles this weekend. That's the largest spread for a non-expansion team in NFL history. Yikes. Oh, and Priest Holmes has decided to retire.
Richard Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 I don't get this Dallas vs Jets game. It would have made more sense to go classic with the Cowboys vs the Redskins, but whatever. They have to fit an AFC team in somewhere.
The Niggardly King Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 I'm an Eagles fan and i can not wait to see how bad the Patriots destroy us I'm in favor of Moss scoring another 4 TD's. DEFACTORS LEAVE REAL FANS RISE UP AND ROOT FOR THE EAGLES!
MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 Samari Rolle missed 6 games for the Ravens this season due to undisclosed illness, which has now been disclosed as severe epileptic seizures that he couldn't get under control. Apparently he now has it under control though.
The Niggardly King Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 So what happens when the kid who's playing as the Pats on Rookie finally gets tired of Madden and turns it off?
CanadianGuitarist Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Anyone watching this pre-game tribute to Favre? As much as I like Favre, this is a little over the top. Gretzky calling him the Great One, Jack Nicklaus calling him 'amazing for his age', LANCE ARMSTRONG calling him nothing but inspirational, and Ali specifically added a piece: "I am the greatest, you are the latest."
snuffbox Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Yeah, we can handle Peterson & Tomlinson, but not the Lions backs.
Guest Vitamin X Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Man, I hate to be right. And Favre always plays shitty in Detroit (although that was more the Silverdome than Ford Field). Holding them to two field goals with the field position they have is good. Giving up 100 yards while only gaining what, 30 yards is crap.
BX Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Yeah. I feel like this is a classic trap game. Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon. Rouse intercepts a pass intended for Calvin Johnson and almost banks it.
Guest Vitamin X Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Consider it banked. Greg Jenning fantasy owners, you all should be proud of yourselves. After all that work, Detroit is down now, 7-6. I wasn't a big fan of Brady Poppinga coming into the year, thinking he was the weak link in the front seven, and it definitely looks like opposing offenses have figured out to always run it at him.
Kahran Ramsus Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 How is it a trap when Detroit is both a good team and a divisional rival? This is a tough game rather than a trap game.
Guest Vitamin X Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 I think it's a trap because of the homefield implications next week with the Dallas-Green Bay game (Super Bowl 41 3/4?), but of course all that is for naught if they don't win this week.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Did I just hear The Mae Shi used as bumper music on the Lions/Packers game? Weird. Calvin Johnson is thisclose to being a mega-receiver.
BX Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 I think it's trap game because I feel people don't take Detroit seriously, while most people would admit that Green Bay is for real this year. The ESPN poll has 84.1% of pick 'em players selecting Green Bay. I just feel nobody really expects Detroit to win this thing.
snuffbox Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 The Lions have already shown themselves to be playoff contenders in today's NFC. And KGB's hurt. Still not as bad as the Colts, though.
MFer Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Kitna needs better pocket presence and needs to throw better balls. Calvin Johnson needs to catch the ball like he usually does. The secondary needs to stop sucking.
NoCalMike Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Well unless Detroit does something fast to get back into this game, I think my previous quote has summed the game up nicely... All the factors you stated might keep it close for a a quarter or two, but I think Green Bay will find enough to work with to run away with the game after halftime.
mike546 Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 You know, this Brett Favre love isn't really bothering me. This guy is backing it up. 17 completions in a row. 3 more TDs today.
Kinetic Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 So much for a good Detroit performance on Thanksgiving. I don't think this team makes the playoffs, which would leave the door open for...who? The odd man out between Arizona and Seattle in the West? Philadelphia?
CanadianChris Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 So much for a good Detroit performance on Thanksgiving. I don't think this team makes the playoffs, which would leave the door open for...who? The odd man out between Arizona and Seattle in the West? Philadelphia? I don't think any of those teams are finishing above .500. I think Detroit can still get in at 9-7.
CanadianChris Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Hey, double post. I don't get many of those.
packwingfn Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Did everyone catch the quote that Aikman said about the Packers going for the field goal on 4th and Goal about how if this was the Patriots, they would probably go for it, with an awkward silence from Joe afterward
Kinetic Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 @Minnesota, Dallas, @San Diego, Kansas City, @Green Bay Packers. That's three pretty tough road games for a team that can't win on the road. I can see them winning @ Minnesota and maybe beating Kansas City at home. I guess 7-9 or 8-8 could conceivably be good enough to get in as a wild card in the NFC.
CanadianChris Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 I think they finish 8-8 at worst. Minnesota and Kansas City are winnable games, and your guess is as good as mine as far as what happens in San Diego.
snuffbox Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Good effort from Kitna & Johnson at the end there.
CanadianChris Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 How did Bryant Gumbel keep his NFLN play-by-play job after last year's debacle? He better have gotten a LOT better since then.
Kinetic Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 No. He still sounds like Kermit the Frog and he's made a bunch of headscratching calls and observations. Collinsworth is good, though.
