Darth Pipes 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2007 I will say one thing...Kane ended up working out great for them. I figured he would be gone once Taker beat him at WM14 but he's proved his durability, despite the stupid storylines the WWE has put him in.

DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2007 "Happy Kwanzanakkauh everyone" - Kenny. He didn't sound very comfortable doing an out of character promo (even though he was sort of in character, doing the cocky "future hall of famer" thing). Anyway, time to settle in for some Art Donnovan colour commentary! Art: This, uh, Razor Ramon fella, he outweighs him by about 30 pounds! Savage/Monsoon: (silence, followed by reaction to Razor slapping Owen). Art: I'll tell you what... I think Razor's gonna lose. After watching the show, that other fella seems a bit too much for him! WWF Alert! Monsoon was not muted on "who will become the 1994 WWF King of the Ring"

Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 Newest NWA show is up (2/8/86 I think) with jazzy new graphics (and sound effects!). This Virgil Runnels producer-dude (whoever that loser is) is finally earning his keep. I know who it is.

Unfortuneately it looks like they're not going to show that special 2/7/86 NWA show they were hyping with all the Championship Challenge Series matches. That's the downside of it not being an episode of World Championship Wrestling. It was the same feeling when we had all those shows a couple months ago hyping Starrcade '85, and it wasn't on the schedule. It would be a nice touch if they would match up, however, they'd then have to do the same with the Monday Night Wars and even the ECW shows starting relatively soon... although, that wouldn't be a bad thing. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2007 Last year things actually lined up, but I don't know if it ever had previously or ever will again. It just happened that in October 2006, they were showing October 96 episodes leading up to IYH: Buried Alive, which was also part of the October 2006 Halloween theme. At the end of MNW episode with the last Raw before the PPV, they put a graphic on screen "Watch Buried Alive. Available now on WWE 24/7!"
10 Pounds 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2007 Does Starcade '98 apply to the weird rule that Goldberg's WCW Theme must be overdubbed by his WWE's theme ? You know it. Finally watched the show this week. Funny how they absolutely have to change Goldberg's theme but have left out several Benoit references and even a WWF scratch logo on screen. And Venkman, since we both have Cogeco, have you had any problems with the MNW or the Troops show ? Both freeze at the 7 minute mark and loop back to the "Christmas moment" at the beginning of the show.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2007 All of my shows are running nice and smooth. Cogeco here even stopped saying shows were 7 minutes! I can't believe I missed a WWF scratch logo either, I love looking for those errors. Of course, no Starrcade 92. I don't get what stops PYBO's from airing here, but whatever. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2007 The History of WWE Championship Part 6 has a really awkward cut from Brock v. Rock to them showing Eddy beating Brock. Which sucks, I wanted to see Benoit v. Angle again. I'm looking forward to seeing Starrcade 92, haven't seen that show in a while.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2007 Starrcade '92 is such an unusual show. Multiple guys wrestling three matches. The Battlebowl pairings seemed legitimately random. Jushin Liger and Erik Watts against Sting and Steve Williams? Sting/Vader was outstanding as usual. Chono/Muta was unusually horrid.
Guest Nitro 24/7 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 I remember watching Starrcade 92 on ppv back in the day its a really good show. The music edits suck though and so does the announcing they had to edit in some of the matches.

Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 Yeah, "Virgil Runnels" is in the closing credits for the NWA weekly shows, too. I don't know if Ole is, though.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 The really hilarious thing on that Starrcade is that Erik Watts is out there doing a crappy looking STF in the tag match with Liger, and then later in the show Muta and Chono are out there doing STFs in an NWA world title match! If I'm Chono I would have been pissed at an inept rookie out there doing that move when I was going to use it in a title defense as a finisher. I disagree with Scott Keith's rant on that PPV. He said the show sucked hard and to avoid it. I thought Sting/Vader was a great match and the tag title match was terrific as well.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 It's just a weird pointless show. What's the point of changing the result from a double countout to a DQ win?
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2007 Yeah, WCW had a real air of aimlessness about it at that point in time. I mean what did it really matter if you win the Battlebowl? What did it really matter if Sting or Vader won the King of Cable tourney? What the hell does being the King of Cable even MEAN? In actuality it meant so much that Vader (who lost that KoC finals) won the world title from Ron Simmons right after that Starrcade.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out why they edited Capetta at the beginning of the match, but not at the end.
Guest Report post Posted December 30, 2007 The ring announcer isn't on a separate track from the music. So they have to edit him out at the beginning, but not the end, given that the music doesn't come on at the end until Capetta has given the decision. If they kept Capetta's voice in, it would sound like a garbled mess.

Running tournaments is a staple of some promotions, and it was popular in WCW at the time. It was meant as a similar concept as King of the Ring, but of course WWF had that copyrighted. King of Cable comes from WCW using wrapped cables as their ring ropes.

It was part of Watts' attempt to make things look legit and like other professional sports. He was all about trying to make things look as realistic as possible. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2007 What's the point of changing the result from a double countout to a DQ win? The theory that the fans won't feel so cheated out of not getting a finish if the babyface gets his hand raised.
