King Kamala Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 I'm not one to double post typically but I had an epiphany that told me that this thread shall go without Kriss Kross for no longer And this next one is just for you Czechers
Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 I'm sorry, but you do NOT rip off a song that could very well be right next to your own on B96's playlist circa 1996! Simply horrible. Which '90s hit song about running away is better? You tell me! I know the first video is not official, but the official one was the wrong mix.
Retard Girl Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 I'm not one to double post typically but I had an epiphany that told me that this thread shall go without Kriss Kross for no longer hahaa, oh man, i was thinking about this one recently too. but i remembered the name of the group and the song. i remember the kids trying to wear backwards clothes for a couple months after this came out. silly preteens.
King Kamala Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Czech, by any chance were you a fan of Open House Party? It was a nationally syndicated radio show aired every weekend that played all sorts of that kind of music (Real McCoy, No Mercy, Haddaway, Crystal Waters, The Venga Boys, etc.) and shitastic remakes of current pop hits. It was a highlight of many a Saturday and Sunday nights for me as a youth.
Smartly Pretty Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 I fucking LOVE "Steal My Sunshine". What happened to the dialogue in the video? That's the best part! EDIT: I saw Steal My Sunshine posted and immediately made a post saying I loved it, before even reading other posts in this thread. I like other songs in here too. Also, Kamala is cool.
BUTT Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Oh God, I hated "Sex and Candy." That song was so boring and dull. This on the other hand was freakin' great: So great that I bought the CD and it sucked ass! Can't win 'em all.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 How has the thread gone this far without:
Retard Girl Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 hahahaaa. i feel old because they re-did this song for a movie that MY KIDS are watching (Cars). yup
King Kamala Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Ah MC Serch, the spokesman for white rappers. And probably my least favorite one hit wonders of the 90s. Why has this thread gotten to the 2nd page without this; Haddaway's appearence on the short lived "Hit Me Baby One More Time" was a great source of unintentional comedy for me and the one other guy at school who watched that shitty show during my junior year of high school.

It was a highlight of many a Saturday and Sunday nights for me as a youth. No, I kept it local and listened to Saturday/Sunday night remixes with Jumpin' Julian Perez. Or maybe it was Julian Jumpin' Perez. I don't know. This was 12 years ago. Another program I recall was "Planet Z" on WZOK out of Rockford, which was like a Sunday night alternative block or something. (Freudian slip just now, I typed "alternative blow" first, jsyk.) I recall copious quantities of Reel Big Fish before they hit it big, I guess. They had some song that was like Sell out! With me tonight! Sell out! With me tonight! Record company's gonna give me lots a money something something something then there was wacky ska trombone. Was there a club remix of "What's Up"? I swear there was. EDIT: Julian Jumpin' Perez, indeed in that order.
RHR Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Wait...did somebody say B96? Oh...oh my god... I hated B96... I did, however, finish second at the Hades Haunted House Dance Off in 1993. Sponsored by... B96. Does anyone remember Shai? Man...the first half of that album helped me lose my virginity....
Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I did say B96, but I missed out on the whole Eddie & JoBo thing.
King Kamala Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 UIt has come to this... here comes the ska one hit wonder post.... Anybody else besides me remember when ska was really popular for like three weeks in '96/'97ish?
Retard Girl Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Anybody else besides me remember when ska was really popular for like three weeks in '96/'97ish? i remember that. that was about the same time swing was popular, for about the same amount of time.
Kinetic Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Anybody else besides me remember when ska was really popular for like three weeks in '96/'97ish? Who knew "Take On Me" would translate so well to ska over and over again? It was around this period that I began to notice the gulf between me and my smartass rich kid friends with the 311 t-shirts.
Slayer Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 I remember three different one-year wonder music trends 1997 - ska 1998 - swing 1999 - Latin wave
Giuseppe Zangara Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 The third-wave ska movement from a decade ago managed to sour me for years on ska in general. Only recently have I been able to give bands like the Specials and the English Beat a fair shot.
Ginger Snaps Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 You know what my favorite one-hit wonder of the 90's is? "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals. And I hated that song when it came out, but then I came to love it. I'm stuck at hating it. Terrible song.
Ginger Snaps Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Oh God, I hated "Sex and Candy." That song was so boring and dull. This on the other hand was freakin' great: So great that I bought the CD and it sucked ass! Can't win 'em all. That song is awesome. they played it a million times on my local alt-rock station in the late 90s. i remember that. that was about the same time swing was popular, for about the same amount of time. you can't mention late 90s swing without mentioning this song
Vyce Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 you can't mention late 90s swing without mentioning this song I actually own the CD that particular song is from.
Red Baron Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Since I don't know how to embed a link. Check the OR featuring TOM GREEN
LaParkaMarka Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 I love this thread. I know about a billion shitty 90s songs, but here are my most despised: I want to punch this guy in the face
Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 pop0rox (1 day ago) this song was made before 'high' was a word that people giggled at... back when it didn't mean on drugs. i wish we could go back to those days...beautiful...*sigh* "You're high" wasn't invented till the (very) late '90s, I suppose. Also, I think Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray, which I posted, is every guy from the late '90s that you ever wanted to punch in the face.
King Kamala Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 You know what? I actually like Sugar Ray. Not enough that I'd buy all of their albums but enough that I'd probably buy their Greatest Hits if I found it for cheap enough. And I'm not even ashamed to admit I like that band. Even if the "rapper/DJ" in the group was kind of annoying and superflouous.
BUTT Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Here's one of my favorite mid-90's semi-hits, "Am I Wrong" by Psychedlic Furs offshoot Love Spit Love.
The Niggardly King Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 I still listen to this song a lot.
Retard Girl Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 it was 1992, i was 13, and this song changed my life. and why isn't there a "i remember the 90's/embedded media" thread yet?
Guest My Pal, the Tortoise Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Hey, TSM, hope you all had a merry Christmas like I did. I think I drank expired egg nog at breakfast this morning, though, EDIT: Never mind, the cover of "Let the Music Play" I was thinking of fucking sucks. It was the original from 1980 that they played on B96. hay look: top 100 from 1995. Not bad, not bad. http://longboredsurfer.com/charts.php?year=1995 Ah, memories are starting to come back now. Shy Guy! Tootsee [sic] Roll!
