Actually it hadn't been brought up at all and I hadn't read anything of the sort until I just did a quick Google search to confirm what you claimed and you are right.

A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select any of the following:

 

A. A team in the NCG;

B. The host team for another BCS Bowl;

C. When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents.

Really stupid rule. On the other hand though even if the rule didn't exist odds are the Rose Bowl would have stuck with tradition.

 

Personally I don't think it's a stupid rule, it prevents a bowl from losing its anchor team (who will theoretically draw the most fans) while another bowl loads up at its expense.

It's easy to be a prisoner of the moment, but Georgia did nothing to deserve to be in the national title game. They didn't win the SEC, nor did they even win the SEC East. In fact the team that did win it (Tennessee) squashed UGA. I mean when you're getting owned by a JTTS Vols team, what does that really say? Though really it was the bizarre 16-12 loss to South Carolina that cost UGA.

I was surprised at the playcalling by June Jones for Hawaii.

 

I know you're a run and shoot team and you basically pass like 70% of the game... but they're constantly putting on pressure! Try some more draw plays or go to three wide and bring the 4th WR into the backfield to help with pass protection. They didn't change anything at all and when they did run, they had brief success.

 

If they had even tried to develop the run briefly, they could've turned to a play action pass or two to keep the defense on their heels again. I'm surprised also that they didn't try to change the routes from the 10+ yard variety. Tell the receivers to cut their normal routes off by 3-4 yards to allow Brennan a shorter period of time to stay in the pocket.

 

Of course, it didn't help that the tackles for Hawaii were atrocious in pass protection. I saw one play, where Georgia's #97 did the most basic swim move and it was like the Hawaii offensive player wasn't even there before the defender was in the backfield and in Brennan's face.

Just got back from Jacksonville. Amazing 4-day bender despite it being the shittiest city in the world, wonderful Gator Bowl game until the last 3 minutes. A combination of terrible calls and a backup QB fumbling at the goal line ruined my day. I'm usually not one to blame officiating, but I was standing right next to the jumbotron and Crabtree wasn't even close to in-bounds on Texas Tech's TD. No clue how they couldn't overturn that.

 

I've missed all the other bowl games, but it sounds like I really haven't missed much at all, except maybe the Capital One.

The first half of 1/1 (TN-WI & MI-FL) was great but but the rest of the day was largely unwatchable.

Edwin, I haven't been to Jacksonville but haven't ever heard good things about it. What's so horrible about that city?

It's probably okay if you live there. The downtown is half-dead after 9 pm, it's dull sprawl, and 2/3 of the bars are strip clubs. Which isn't necessarily a terrible thing, but gives you a taste. We had fun, though, and the stadium's really nice, if not conducive to games with only 45,000 people there.

If there is one thing in this millenium that we can always count on it is Oklahoma choking big time in a major bowl. Wow. They had a WVU tonight that lost their coach and also had lost their nat. title shot after losing to Pitt....and still WVU kicked their asses.

 

In all honesty though when WVU is clicking on all cylinders they're a better team anyway.
