NFL PLAYOFFS! Divisional Demolition

Recommended Posts

Guest Vitamin X

It's football friday today! Everyone at my work seems to be wearing their respective team's jerseys. This is something of a problem for me in a decidedly Seahawk area, but I will probably wear the Favre jersey all next week if they win.

Green Bay, Jacksonville, New York, Indianapolis.

That would be really cool.

Agreed.

All four home teams should win this weekend, but I just can't see it happening. How often do we get the four best teams winning in the same weekend?

If I had to pick one upset, it'd be the Giants over the Cowboys. It's very rare to see one team beat another three times in a single season. I don't want to put too much stock into the Giants beating up on the Bucs last weekend, but they have one eight straight on the road and just seem to be clicking at the right time. The Cowboys on the other hand...

As for the other three, I think Jax will give New England a game, but ultimately fall short. Indy will rout San Diego. And after seeing most of the Seahawks games this year, I don't think they have much of a shot against Green Bay. They'd have to have a lot of fluke things go their way to make a game out of it.

3 years ago when Atlanta, Philly, New England, and Pittsburgh all won.

Everyone thinking Jacksonville will gave New England a good test makes me think Pats in a rout.

I'm going with the chalk for every game.

The mainstream analysis of Jax/NE reiterates the fact that we have to much media coverage for the NFL right now. Over the course of the past two weeks, it's gone from the Jags could be a tough opponent for NE to Jacksonville will win because they are better prepared for cold weather and now finally New England will win in a romp. The media goons all try to go against the grain and everything becomes watered down.

Mostly likely NE wins by about 10-14 points after Jax gives them a first half scare.

Seattle/Green Bay: To me, this is the toughest one to call. Could easily go Green Bay's way, but somehow I don't see all four top teams winning.

JAX/NE: Make or break for Garrard. Belichick takes away the best thing a team does and makes them win some other way. I like Del Rio, but they're going to have to throw the ball well to win (especially if they fall behind early).

SD/Indy: The lack of a healthy Gates and the return of Harrison are big reasons Indy wins this game. Bob Sanders will keep LT quiet, and I don't think Phillip Rivers can put up enough points to outscore Peyton Manning, especially without Gates.

NYG/Dallas: Eli's streak of good games comes to a close. Tony Romo does just enough to win.

Thing is I hardly think the 1990 Bills are in the same realm as this Patriots team. The Giants/Bills game was a fairly even matchup going in, Bills maybe a very slight favorite due to Hostetler at QB instead of Simms for NY.

Here is one thing I don't think anyone has mentioned about the Jags/Pats matchup. The Patriots absolutely violated Jacksonville in the 2005 playoffs 28-3, and this was a pretty weak 10-6 Patriots going against a 12-4 Jaguars team. Are we seriously supposed to believe that Jacksonville has improved so much as to beat a Patriots team that is about 10x better than that 2005 Pats team?

For some reason I don't see the Colts blowing out San Diego. Manning just sucks against that 3-4 defense and while I do think the Colts will win it won't be an amazing victory. One thing to note is that the Colts tend to be crappy if they get a bye week in the playoffs. They lost in 1999 to the Titans and also in 2005 to the Steelers when having the playoff bye, whereas when they get that first round squash over the Broncos or Chiefs it gives them some momentum and they get to the Super Bowl, AFC title game, etc.

As far as Seattle/GB goes, Seattle is a sucker bet. Seattle is nothing away from home, and on a lesser level I wonder if Lambeau Field is for Hasselbeck what playing in Dallas is for Favre.

That 2005 Jacksonville team had an absurdly easy regular season schedule. Still, your point stands. I think both AFC games are blowouts, while both NFC games will be tight wins for the home team.

The Colts probably won't blow SD out, but they'll maintain a comfortable 10-14 point lead throughout before SD gets a late score to make it closer.

I'm not completely sold in Elisha's Renaissance just yet. Just like I'm not sold on this "Cowboys are DISTRACTED!!" nonsense.

Being from the area and seeing the team everyday...I can tell you that this team is much better...

You can't forget that fact that Garrard was playing well, but was benched for a returning Leftwich who clearly wasnt 100 percent...

The receiver core was not great at all and Maurice Drew was still a UCLA Bruin...

They have a Two man running game now...A mobile quarterback..Receivers who can make plays when they need too..

This is the best Jags team since the 14-2 1999 Squad who had the best Record in the AFC but lost 3 times..All to the Tennessee Titans including the AFC Championship Game(who were a special team that year given the music city miracle and all and that great finish to the Super Bowl even though they came up 1 yd short of overtime..)

Jacksonville Jaguars @ New England Patriots

J'Ville plays 45 mins of in your face, tough, run up the gut, smash mouth football. But the game is 60 mins long, so NE makes a comeback and keeps on scoring. NE wins 34 to 24

San Diego Chargers @ Indianapolis Colts

No Gates + Returning Harrision + Better Run game stoppage by Sanders + The Good Manning brother = Colts winning 35 to 14

New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys

TO is playing, Giants do not have good stop for TO. Eli will look to have a good game, but the Giants will play like the Giants we know and have close to 150 yards in penalites so Romo doesn't have to be Mr. Perfect. He will break his bad game snap and will win this one. This game is going to be ugly but a win is a win. Cowboys 24 to 17

Seattle Seahawks @ Green Bay Packers

Bitter cold game will have passing games slowed down a little due to recievers dropping would be open catches. Seahawks forgot what a running game is. Green Bay has developed into a great running team and they can throw. This could be the big blow out of the week. I see Green Bay pouring it on 42 to 17.

Then next week is is going to be Superbowl talk of Farve vs Brady neverminding the fact both teams are going have tough rematches from earlier this season. The Media is completely sleeping on all 13-3 teams this year and it seems the only teams to get any coverage are J'Ville, NE, Eli rollercoaster and Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo staged love affair. But thats a rant for another thread.

Don't forget they basically blew out the Dolphins 63-3 or something like that in Marino's final game.

That's too bad. I'd love to see him throw a touchdown pass to himself.

You know, if Romo leads the Cowboys to the super bowl, he's kinda like our generations Joe Namath, what with nailing Jessica Simpson and Carrie Underwood and shit.

it was 63-10 I believe...

which was impressive...

Scoring 60+ plus in an NFL Playoff game was impressive...I don't know if the Jags were that good or the Dolphins were just that bad...

The Giants were one of the least penalized teams in the NFL this year.

If the snow has a impact on how the Seahawks play, I'll be very surprised. Unless this gets worse, weather-wise, they play in worse conditions in Seattle.

This should be a really good game.

I had heard that...but I didn't think that it was...you know...true.

If they haven't been practicing outside, then they've given their home advantage to the Seahawks. They ONLY train outside in weather.
