Questions to be answered by the next person to post in the thread

Recommended Posts

My answers:

Oakland Raiders: If there has been a lowest of lows this decade for me as a fan, I would have to pick Super Bowl XXXVII as the lowest point in my fandom of the Raiders. A terrible loss and everything since has been the cherry on top of the shit sundae.

Los Angeles Lakers: Can't say there hasn't been a lot of low points since they have won 3 championships this decade, but I would have to go with the 1999 second round sweep by the Spurs and the Shaq trade as low points.

Los Angeles Dodgers: 2002 World Champion Angels.

USC Trojans: the Paul Hackett era and the Stanford loss last season.

Phillies. It's not Joe Carter, not even close. That was a disappointing end to a great season. Two come to mind.

1. 1964 season. The Phillies blow a 6 1/2 game lead with twelve games to play.

2. Game 3, 1977 NLCS vs. the Dodgers. Series tied at 1-1. Phillies led 5-3 in the ninth, got two quick outs. Vic Davalillo gets a bunt single. Manny Mota hits a deep fly that bounces in and out of Greg Luzinski's glove for a double. Davey Lopes hits a hard grounder that bounces off Schmidt to Larry Bowa who throws out Lopes by half a step. Lopes is called safe, and the game is tied. Gene Garber then bounces a pickoff throw past the first baseman, Lopes advances to second, and scores the go-ahead run on Bill Russell's single. The Phils lost a shot at the World Series in one inning, all with two outs.

Oh man, I bet you were bummed when that happened.

Jays: Mike Sirotka trade. The fact that they turned 2 great seasons from Roger Clemens in to 2 good seasons from David Wells into a guy who would never pitch again. Way to go, Gord Ash.

Leafs: Post-lockout.

I never said it had to be in your lifetime.

I'll stick with the lifetime as well:

Blue Jays: The entire 2004 season.

Habs: The entire reign of Rejean Houle. Roy gets the most attention, and deservedly so, but they did get into the playoffs three straight seasons without him. Houle traded away Turgeon, Damphousse, and Recchi for really no reason.

Raptors: Rob Babcock. I see the case for the 2001 Eastern semis, but they had a good run;

Raiders: Ask me in a few years.

Habs: The Rejean Houle Era.

Red Sox: 2003 ALCS

Seahawks: Every game. You get three options. No Offence, No Defence or No Team.

G: Sam Cassell

G: Damon Jones

F: Renaldo Balkman

F: Kenny Thomas

C: Joakim Noah

6th man: Tayshaun Prince

Would the Knicks have won a title had they not traded Mark Jackson for Charles Smith?

NBA All-Ugly Team. Starting Five and a 6th man! Picking from current players, who's making your list?

and Sam Cassell coming off the bench

Yeah, he's not current, but look at the mug!

Ahh Robert Swift, was there a worse lottery pick ever? And how about the fact Seattle went Petro, Sene, Swift in three straight years? I would never believe they haven't made the playoffs since!

What's the single most one-sided game/fight you've ever seen?

No. The NBA was way too stacked throughout the 1990's.

Did Iverson deserve MVP in 01 or should it have went to Shaq?

Iverson deserved it...

Shaq always had a great supporting cast in LA...

AI had Matt Geiger...

Probably Tyson/Spinks. Just a massacre from the word "go." The Broncos/49ers and Bears/Patriots Super Bowls both came to mind, as well as the 62-3 Jags/Dolphins playoff game.

In baseball, I'd have to go with this game between the Brewers and Blue Jays in 1992, when the Brewers set club records for runs (22) and hits (31).

Something reminded me of the list of the 50 greatest NBA players, and it got me to thinking of this question...looking back on the list now, given what's happened in the past twelve years, who would you add to the list, and who would you remove?

I would add:

For Sure:

Dominique Wilkins

Tim Duncan

Kevin Garnett

Kobe Bryant

Bob McAdoo

Maybe:

Jason Kidd

Steve Nash

Allen Iverson

Eventually (for sure):

LeBron James

I take out:

Scottie Pippen

Lenny Wilkens

Robert Parish

Hal Greer

Dave Bing

I was in attendance for the worst loss in Boston Celtics history back in January '03. They lost to The Pistons. Checking on basketball-reference, I see the score was 118 to 66. Ouch. The only fun moment at the game was when what was left of the crowd chanted for Bruno Sundov when he entered in at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

Tyson-Spinks was almost certainly the most one-sided major event, particularly since it was so quick.

The 30-3 Rangers/Orioles game wasn't that one-sided, honestly. It was competitive through the sixth and then it just fell out of hand. It wasn't that one team was clearly better, it's just that funny things happened. Sports are odd that way.

Without looking, how many currently active professional franchises can you name that have never won the championship in their respective sport?

MLB- Rangers, Mariners, Rays, Rockies, Padres, Astros, Nationals

NBA - Kings, Warriors, Suns, T'Wolves, Jazz, Nuggets, Mavs, Hornets, Grizzlies, Cavs, Nets, Magic, Raptors, Bobcats, Clippers

NFL - Seahawks, Cardinals, Vikings, Falcons, Saints, Panthers, Jaguars, Titans, Chiefs, Bills, Bengals, Texans

I might be able to squeeze out a few more if I had some time, but I have to head out for work

I would definitely count the Bills, Titans, Browns, Chargers, Eagles, Cardinals & Lions as having won titles in football. If you really want to be technical the Vikings have one too, but that one was a part of the Super Bowl era and they ended up getting clobbered by the Chiefs in the Super Bowl so I personally don't acknowledge that one.

Yeah, NFL/AFL Championships in the Super Bowl aren't world championships. Sorry, Slayer and Piss.
