NHL February 2008

I'm curious, am I the only one who thinks Kovalev should get some consideration for the Hart trophy? And I'm a Sens fan saying this.

As much as I want to say yes, there are better players out there this year that deserves it. (See Ovechkin, Alex)

Kovalev isn't #1 choice, I agree however he is on the short list with Ovechkin, Alfredsson and Iginla.

So much for his "impact".

Also the Lindstrom hit is clean. It was Lindstrom landing awkwardly.

Agreed, but I'm assuming everyone in the Red Wings organization and their fans think it was dirty just because it was Lidstrom getting hit. Like he is untouchable. That's what really pisses me off. If someone took a run at Richards and took him out cleanly, I wouldn't get all bent out of shape over it. Richards is my favorite player, but come on it's hockey, everyone should be fair game. I have no problem with enforcers trying to protect their teammates, either. That's the price you pay when taking a run at someone. If it was a hit like Downie put on McAmmond or Boulerice put on Bergeron I think it was(?), then yeah, it's dirty.

Well, Jim Vandermeer went to Calgary for a third round draft pick in the 09 draft and Simon Gange is out for the rest of the season.

Nicklas Lindstrom is out at least three weeks with a sprained MCL.

Rest of the season for Gagne? what the fuck....He gets another one next year, and his career is done. It's sad.

And good riddance to Vandermeer. I liked him in his first go around with Philly, but ever since he's been back, dude has been less than mediocre. I wish we didn't give up Eager for him, as I liked Eager better than Cote.

I love when Tortorella gets pissed.

''You better get it figured out, because I'm not going to be around it,'' Tortorella yelled.

Flyers lost their 10th straight, with Florida tying the game at 1-1 on a goal w/ 3.4 seconds left in the game, and then winning in OT.

Also, since the Flyers don't have enough people hurt, Mike Richards decides to go down w/ a torn hammy. He's expected to miss 3 weeks.

Two tidbits regarding no-trade clauses:

First, Tampa's Brad Richards has submitted a list of teams he will accept trades to. This is in contrast to Mats Sundin, who has refused to waive his clause;

As per a work conversation, is Sundin being selfish? Discuss.

I don't think any blame should be put on the players for invoking no-trade clauses. All the blame rests with the idiots in management who gave the players that power in the first place. It's easy to say Sundin should want to play for a winner, but there's certainly no guarantee of winning a Cup if traded - look no further than Peter Forsberg on that one -- and the idea of leaving a city he's called home for a dozen years just for that reason obviously isn't enough incentive.

Having said that, what has someone like Pavel Kubina ever done to merit a no-trade, and why exactly would he be so reluctant to get traded from a last-place team?

I think he's given enough to the franchise that he deserves the right to finish his craeer there if he so chooses. Not selfish in my opinion.

I agree with this example in particular, and in general, I'm fine with the idea as well.

I meant to post this on Thursday: The Score's Hardcore Hockey Talk (I like Steve Kouleas a hell of a lot more as a TV host than a radio one) claims that Sundin was willing to waive his clause if:

a) He was traded to a list of teams of his choice (list not revealed)

b) The team re-signed him for at least two years, by the time this year's playoffs began

c) The deal was for about 6.5 a season.

While this was being discussed on The Score, TSN said that he was only willing to go to Detroit or Vancouver, but nothing else was known about his demands.

Ahhhh, deadline inaccuracies.

I'm torn about tomorrow from a work standpoint, also. I'm supposed to work 8-4, which would obviously interfere. However, our loopy satellite system at work has been able to get The Score since about 3 weeks ago. I've campaigned against leaving that channel on at work for two reasons: First, there's a fair amount of risque language/topics/highlights during shows that are simulcast on their satellite radio network; Additionally, a customer returned a plasma last week because of screen-burn in from a sports ticker (He shouldn't have left it on for eight hours, but that's not the point) - It'd be fairly hypocritical of me to leave trade deadline talk on all day, let alone the fact I actually enjoy doing work.

I'm gonna have to come down with some kind of virus in the next 16 or 17 hours.

I can't quite put my finger on it either, especially when I can just as easily watch Sportscentre tomorrow.

Alas, I'm enamoured with it, and have been for as long as I can remember.

That's it in a nutshell for me. There's not even anything guaranteed to happen.

I know all about taking time off work to go watch sports, being someone who almost always takes two days off in March to watch the first round of the NCAA tournament, but sitting around watching a bunch of studio guys talk about trades that may or may not happen doesn't do it for me.

Pavel Kubina having a no-trade clause is irrelevant, since no one would trade for him, anyway.

And not to parrot what John Ferguson just said about 10 seconds ago on TSN, but if he hadn't given Kubina a NTC, someone else would have. Of course, you can argue that maybe he should have let someone else do just that.
