Hell, there's a theater about a mile from BYU campus that shows movies that have been out for awhile (say a month for normal movies, two for bigger ones i.e. Spiderman, LOTR, etc.) for 1.50. There's no heat, but damnit you paid a dollar.

I was trying to comprehend why someone would pay $8 for a ticket to a movie thats been out for a while when they could rent it for $4 (or cheaper if you do online rental) or even buy it for cheaper than 2 people could go see it at the theatre. If you held out for this long then ?? and if you really loved it, then the DVD would be better (or not, the DVD is sadly very bare...was expecting more but I bet it'll get a SE or something soon).

 

I don't know whats opening next week but I wouldn't be surprised if Horton hears a Who stays #1 given the holiday weekend.

when I was in Annapolis, I used to get off at 4:30 and the mall there ran all movies last show before 6 for I think like $4 and it was by where I was staying. I think I must have gone to the theatre about 20 times in 4 months (back in 2002) since I didnt have cable at the time, I forget a lot of em but I saw Big Trouble, Mothman Prophecies and Ice Age that I remember. I havent even been but maybe 7 times in the 6 years since and 3 of them were when the new movie theatre that had just opened was offering $1 movies the first week.

My first run theater prices range from $5.75 to $8.50. The older stuff like I Am Legend and Cloverfield are $2.75

Back in Tennessee, it cost you $6 minimum to go to a movie theater. More like 8 or 9 if you go to one of the giant multiplexes. And TN generally has a real low cost-of-living compared to the rest of the country. So I'm surprised that it's much lower anywhere else.

 

Yeah, of course there's discount second-run theaters, but there aren't many of them, I haven't seen one in years.

Yeah, we've got a discount theater here showing NCFOM for 3 dollars and 4 dollars for nine o'clock shows. That's where I went to see RAMBO since it was only in the main theater for about two weeks. Cloverfield bombed out of the cheap theater though, it was only there for one weekend and from what the guy working there told me, not one ticket was sold. Enchanted has been there for about a month now, with good reason cause its actually mildly entertaining.

 

The negative side is I saw 27 Dresses there. Incredibly painful.

Re: Prices.

 

In 1998 a theatre at the mall here began showing movies for $1-3 (depending on day of the week and time) that were recently removed from the major theatre in the city. Then it was closed down in 1999 and replaced by a multiplex in the mall's expansion in 2000.

 

Thankfully we have $4.20 Tuesdays at the big Scotiabank Presents: Cineplex Odeon's Famous Players theatres (hooray for mergers and corporate sponsorship!)

Georgia is awesome in regards to movie tickets. My girlfriend is in a wheelchair, and due to a handicap law, she gets into theaters for free. I just have to pay for myself, obviously. The ticket's usually run about $9.00 for myself, but she gets in for free, so it all works out.

They started it in late April / early May as summer movie season promotion but it was good for business so they kept it. It might have even started last March as a winter promotion but I seem to recall our group was seeing movies cheap by using cereal box tops from select marked packages of Oatmeal Crisp cereal. Then with the Scene card, every 10th movie is free (or a free combo).

It's gotten really expensive in Portland. The cheapest matinee is $5 (at the somewhat crummy theater downtown) and it's at least $6.75 to see a matinee in the theaters near the mall. It's about $9-$10 to see an evening show there.

 

But the one theater up here where I go to college has $3.50 matinees and $5 evening showss. And it's $2.50 for all shows on Monday. The thing is seeing how it's the only theater in 30-40 miles, they mostly play junk and they only have 5 or 6 theaters.

There's a theater about a 1/2 mile from my house that charges $3, but it's two for one admission Monday thru Thursday (so it costs less for me and Mrs. Tremendous to go to the theater than to rent a DVD). Hell, they even serve beer there.

We used to have a dollar theatre in Portland about ten years ago. It was for movies that had been out of theaters for a couple weeks. I swear Space Jam played there for a year. They still had it playing when it had been out on VHS for weeks.

NCFOM is still playing at the discount theater here in town, I'm sending a link so everyone can see what kind of typical fare this place gets. Normally its films that will be on DVD within weeks or films that are already on DVD currently. The theater is an absolute piece of shit, though, but what do you expect.

Anyway regarding the box office this week, its a tragedy that Doomsday is going to get the "see ya" treatment in no time here. It was a GREAT flick by my standards. Mix a little Mad Max, Escape from New York, Evil Dead and about five or six other movies I can think of, and this is what you get. I think this was done by the same guy who wrote and directed Descent, so that explains why I enjoyed this so much. Gore heavy as well to say the least!

 

This will be one of those cult favorites once it hits DVD, I'm thinking.

Non-Matinee admission here is $9.75 per Adult.

 

Matinee is $6.75 per Adult

 

Matinee is before 6pm on Weekdays and before 2pm on Weekends.

 

We also have a $3 theater that shows older movies that are a couple of months from going to DVD. It is a crap theater, with none of the modern technology but for $3 it is a great way to catch movies you missed or when there are too many movies out that you want to see.

 

We used to have a dollar theater but it shut down.

The AMC Movie Theatre I go to In Jacksonville, FL charges $5 For those of us who show our College ID when we buy our tickets. Same for Military. I don't go to Maitnee showings so it comes in handy for late nights

The thing that pisses me off about the theatre here is Regal bought the old 10 screen theatre and bulldozed to build a better one alongside the mall (16 screens with reclining seats, cup holders, an outside ticket window and a Fandango ATM thing..yeah. ) One of the main problems with the old 10 screen theatre was they wouldnt show a wide variety of movies and so we never used to get some of the lesser movies and they promised "oh, 6 more screens!! you'll see them now". But what they've done is now giving the big budget blockbusters 2 screens instead of 1 and probably made it even worse than it was with just 10 screens.

 

The only other theatre options in the area are 30-40 minutes away in Ocean City and neither of them do full schedules during the winter and during the week and both only have like 6 screens so its not even worth the effort.
