Let's Create '90s Mixes

Recommended Posts

I won't lie and act like I don't have an unusually large amount of '90s music on my hard drive. Not necessarily the technically quality stuff, either. We're talking about one-hit wonders and stuff that'll make you go, "Oh yeah, I remember that" in a tone that denotes a mix of nostalgia and repulsion.

I can't be alone in this respect. So let's create some '90s mixes...

I'm down. Give me like 2 days. If I haven't posted it, send me a pm to remind me.

If I don't respond to the pm, then I'm dead.

Cool? Cool. peace.

Wow, I just started playing my 90's playlist on Rhapsody and then I stumbled onto this thread. Right now I'm blasting "All Apologies" by Nirvana to drown out the sound of a kid outside my apartment who's been screaming and crying for the last 45 minutes.

Is that Right Said Fred number the song of my childhood that I have been searching for ever since? The title would indicate that it is, but who knows?

I'm too sexy for my shirt? Too sexy for my shirt, so sexy it hurts?

Yeah, that's the one.

More importantly, I'd forgotten about The Butthole Surfers.

I'm gonna slam dunk this thread.

Part 1 of many more to come. This is just the cracker-ass adult contemporary stuff! I have a whole playlist of dance stuff.

Well fucking done Desensitized. Some of the stuff is pretty memorable (Pumpkins, Alanis, Smash Mouth) but then you bust out the forgotten stuff: Gin Blossoms, fucking OMC, the New Radicals. Good stuff.

I'd add 'Steal My Sunshine' to that track list, it fits in.

Man, I listened to these type of songs way more than any black guy probably should.

Man was The Adventures of Pete and Pete the ultimate 90s show or what? I rented the first season on Netflix about a year back and surprisingly, it still holds up reasonably well.

Anyway, here are my contributions to this thread

You'd think this band would be forgotten, but I'm reminded of this nothing group (whose primary claim to fame was a single made popular by a series of name drops that are now laughably dated) every time I read a Sensei John Kreese post. Way to keep the spirit of '98 alive, bro!

Czech, I admire your use of the "Semi-Charmed Life" edited version. The summer-radio accuracy of your list is thus preserved.

I remember how much I had to fight the urge to like that song, since I was unbelievably anti-rap when that record got released. I'm pretty "meh" about it these days, but back then, I'd find myself unconsciously saying, "Can I get a..." before realizing it went against my stance on rap. And then I'd go make up for my slip by listening to Jimmie's Chicken Shack. I sucked.

I find myself unable to accept "Islands in the Stream" after this.

I still like that song a lot. Too bad Skee-Lo's career never really took off.

EDIT: And that thread Kamala referenced was half my idea, but I never really participated. I think I'm finally ready to embrace my roots, however shameful they may be.

There was a period in 1994 when you couldn't turn MTV on without seeing either this video or the first season of "Road Rules."

I think poor Skee Lo came out about five years too late. He would have been a perfect fit in the late 80s/early 90s goofy pop rap scene with Tone Loc, Young MC, Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff, Kid 'N' Play, etc.
