Maztinho Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 I can't believe nobodies brought this hit by the guys who wrote the King of the Hill theme.
Bruiser Chong Posted May 19, 2008 Author Report Posted May 19, 2008 I didn't expect this thread to blow up like it did, though I originally envisioned it being a dumping ground for everyone's '90s playlists and not a retread of the other '90s-related YouTube thread. Most of the obvious choices have long since been recognized, so here are a few off the top of my head: - Lisa Loeb: I Do - Jimmy Ray: Are You Jimmy Ray - Goo Goo Dolls: Name - Counting Crows: Mr. Jones - Matchbox 20: Push - Better Than Ezra: Good - Orgy: Blue Monday - Beastie Boys: So Whatcha Want? - White Town: Your Woman I think the next phase of this thread should be us putting together some compilations where the songs in each mix have some vague tie. This will ensure that Nirvana and Lisa Loeb don't wind up in the same compilation.
PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Time for me to litter with thread with a string of forgotten urban gems: Doug E. Fresh's best contribution to the nineties: The ghetto jam is about to slam: TLC during their obnoxious clothing era. I'd still hit it. But we are against those thugs: This is for my homey: I want a girl with extensions in her hair. Bamboo earing, at least two pair... But I am still thirsty:

Retard Girl Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 remember when it seemed every other song was about jumping, or butts? and kids rapping. Kris Kross... Another Bad Creation? which brings to mind Boyz II Men and Bell Biv Devoe... and that Poison song? classic... OH and there was this slightly popular song, with a catchy little dance... something about maracas... HEY MACARENA~!
Guest Desensitized Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Bruiser Chong, I'm sorry this thread didn't work out the way you wanted.
BUTT Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 That dance version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is SO BAD.
Kinetic Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 remember when it seemed every other song was about jumping, or butts? Jumping may have gone out of fashion, but the BUTT is still an active muse.
PILLS! PILLS! PILLS! Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Who else remembers this one I do, though I prefer the * that preceded it. * not from the 90's.
Retard Girl Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 remember when every song ended with a string of feedback? good times, great memories.

MFer Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Some other female R&B groups in the 90's: SWV En Vogue 702 Changing Faces There's a few others, but I didn't want to go into overkill mode.
MFer Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Yeah, that is a great list by Czech. I don't remember that version of "Booty Call" but I remember this one (spelled with an "i", BTW) and I always have a hell of a time trying to find it.
Twisted Intestine Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 I don't know if this was posted, but I always liked this song.
PUT THAT DICK IN MY MOUTH! Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I think I should move some of the videos over to Right Said Thread and keep this one on topic. Bruiser Chong Posted May 20, 2008 Author Report Posted May 20, 2008 It's ok, Czech. Best laid plans and all that. I'm glad someone recognized Jimmy Ray, by the way. I was reminded of his existence while going through a box in storage that contained a lot of CD singles, one of them being the aforementioned "Are You Jimmy Ray?" You see, I went through a snap for about three or four years where I would only buy CD singles and not the full albums. Not the most efficient usage of money, but it saved me from owning an entire ALBUM full of Jimmy Ray songs. And now that I mention that box of singles, has anyone mentioned Luscious Jackson's "Naked Eye"?
BUTT Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Ah, Jimmy Ray. He was a man who wanted to know who wanted to know.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 I'm totally ordering you the "Rhythm is a Dancer" 12-inch for your birthday.
NoCalMike Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Was "The Humpty Dance" 90's? If you can get a hold of the original episodes of MTV's The Real World, the first five or so seasons, they have some classic 90's soundtracks playing in the backgrounds of the show.

That's good stuff. I've got an old homebrew of The State's complete run on MTV specifically for the music.
