MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Who the hell determains what fights count and what don't?

Example

I remember on the first season of TUF Bobby Southworth was talking about his record of blah blah blah, anyway, 30+ fights. Before his fight on the show it was a smaller number on the graphics (for the Sincade fight) and according to Sherdog his record is only 6-4 with a no contest.

Can you ever get a real number anywhere? I understand some of these fights may not be recognized by a sanctioned board or whatever, but it's confusing.

A lot of them count their amateur fights as well, with the difference being that amateur fights aren't paid while professional ones are.

I can understand that, why they wouldn't be listed, and again why they would claim them themselves. But even UFC and Shedog can't get along. UFC's site has Jeremy Horn with 10 more fights than Sherdog

A lot of guys have wins in smaller orgs during a time when MMA as a whole was pretty unorganized, so while Random Fighter may know he's 30-0 in small time events (and tells the UFC such when he signs with them), the guys who run Sherdog's Fight Finder or FCFighter's database will be unable to enter results for Hick Fighting Championships XXXVIII:Battle at the Trailer Park for any number of reasons.

Nowadays, though, smaller events are becoming easier to track, and thus more accurate tracking of fighters' records is possible.

FcFighter tends to be bit more comprehansive, but even the line between amateur and pro is somewhat blurred. In some states, you can hold amateur events but not pro, and those shows do feature pro fighters who get paid under the table.

Somebody just told me the UFC was a second tier organization with lazy, sloppy fighters, with a few exceptions. Help me tear him a new asshole.

Note: this guy is a bigtime Pride nuthugger

You could just mention that the UFC's welterweight division is MMA's deepest and boasts arguably 3 Top 5 Pound for Pound Fighters alone, to mention nothing of the other divisions.

As nasty as Mirko's kicks are, Fedor still made him his personal bitch.

Somthing tells me you didn't watch that fight.

Yeah I did. Everything that Mirko tried, Fedor had an answer for. It got to the point that it looked to me like Mirko was second guessing himself and Fedor won the match handily.

Aside from the "alledged" Japanese bias towards their homegrown fighters, Pride was a good promotion. In a way its going to be sad to see them fold up, because anything that advances MMA is good in my book. UFC can either be the biggest and the best for a long time to come or it can be the WWE, depending on what Dana White does. It has amazing potential, and its going to be a downright tragedy it that potential is not maximized.

I may be a relative minor when it comes to MMA knowledge, but I know what I like. Both promotions have their strengths and weaknesses.

He also likes to mention how terrible Rich Franklin is, even going so far as to say Genki Sudo(!) could handle him in a match, and he even has the nuts to say that Sudo beat more top MW fighters than Franklin has, which I guess is a new mathematical discovery since zero would now be greater than itself.

Basically, the guy's an idiot but he takes himself so seriously as a MMA expert that you can't just dismiss him as such and leave it at that, because he has the potential to impact other, less knowledgable people and make them just as moronic as he is.

Pretty much. But I figure he's been working on getting Hioki back in TKO for a while so I can only hope but not trust. Horodecki's on the card too which I'll also not believe until I see because as far as I know he's IFL-exclusive.

Hioki/Hominick II is on for the February TKO show. Rudo and myself are issuing a challenge to Tong to make the journey up north even though we know he can't.......or won't.

I'm seriously contemplating if doing the cabbage patch in your guys' faces after Hioki humiliates Hominick again is worth the air fare.

For some reason, I just cannot see Cro Cop in UFC. Its almost as if my mind refuses to process the possibility of it.

Something interesting, if unsurprising and I don't know how serious it was, that Meltzer said it's no secret that UFC want Sylvia to lose the heavyweight title very quickly.

As for CroCop in UFC, I can't imagine them not pulling out all the stops to get him.

Who is the highest paid in UFC? Is it Liddell or was it Hughes? The only way to even have a chance at Mirko is if they did pull out all the stops, and then some....

And they want Sylvia to lose the belt? Not surprising to me either, but that leaking out is not a good thing for UFC if they are trying (and very hard, mind) to create and maintain an air of legitimacy.

I don't think it at all effects the legitimacy of the UFC, they're a business and for a business to run successfully you need to know what your strengths and weaknesses are. Tim Sylvia as your HW champion is not a strength. You're using the phrase "air of legitimacy" as if they aren't.

Xyience, and Dana White, in hot water?

FIGHT NEWS UNLIMITED EXCLUSIVE

Editor's Note: We received this email from a reliable source and will be looking further into this case in the future. Look for updates in the coming days. The following message was sent to a Nevada District Attorney. We verified the email address and will be doing some research into the docket number in the days to come to find out more about this case.

Here is the email:

We have been notified by several investors of the Xyience Company, some who have pending lawsuits, that Xyience is currently being investigated by senior counsel for the Securities and Exchange Commission for illegal money raising and that investor funds are possibly being diverted into shell corporations set up by Xyience's CEO Russell Pike. Pike has been imprisoned

for these type of actions in the past. We are in contact with the SEC, and have verified the investigation.

Attached are several articles sent to us by these investors, displaying Russell Pike's previous criminal history.

We have also been in contact with Phoenix Labs, a manufacturer of Nutritional Supplements for the industry. Xyience owes Phoenix Labs over $500.000.00 for manufacturing fees they will not pay. A lawsuit in currently pending against Xyience. Russell Pike and Paul Grady were deposed on October 12, 2006, regarding this Federal Case #CV06-1859.

Dymatize Nutrition is also filing suit against Xyience. Xyience owes this supplement manufacturing company over 2 million for unpaid manufacturing fees.

Recently, our office has also been contacted by Basic Media Group, who is the publisher of Real Fighter Magazine. Xyience refuses to pay for their share of the production of the publication and exclusive advertising rights for the Real Fighter Magazine given to Xyience.

Also, we have been contacted by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. They have been advised that Xyience's Russell Pike and the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Dana White, have been coluding with each other to lockout all other supplement sponsors from advertising with the UFC. White is also directing which fighters Xyience sponsors and locking

out other supplement manufacturers from advertising on Spike TV during the Reality Show. We are investigating further for a possible payoff accuring by Xyience to Dana White for this exclusive arrangement.

Lastly, sources have just notified our office, that some GNC executives might possibly have a financial interest in the Xyience Supplement company. GNC is Xyience's biggest account and they seem to be taking on all of the Xyience products in their current line.

A class action law suit is currently being drafted on behalf of several investors and former employees who have claims against the Xyience Company and it's convicted felon Pike, as well as other officers of the Xyience company.

We will be in touch as things progress.

Regards,

Rumors coming out that they want their heavyweight champion to lose does not look good. It smacks of mob figures paying fighters off to take dives. As much as Bert Sugar and Jim Lampley and their ilk still try to hold up boxing as the sport of kings (and maybe it once was, about 30 years ago) and shit all over MMA, the people have spoken in that MMA is well on its way to supplanting boxing in popularity. Things like the higher-ups wanting their champion to lose should not come out, no matter what his popularity is or isn't. as much as people hate Sylvia, someone has to beat him straight up to effect change. Its enough of an uphill climb withough the shadow of that looming over UFC. And they still fighting for respect, as they as still on the fringe, no matter what the PPV buyrates may suggest. They've come a long way, but the still have a ways to go, and things like this can only hurt them.

--UFC today purchased the assets of the remnants of the WFA promotion from owners Ross Goodman and Louis Palazzo. The group ran a PPV show in June that failed, and canceled the second event scheduled for this past Saturday night. In the deal, Zuffa picked up its choice of fighter contracts. While not yet official as to which contracts are and aren't being picked up, the two key contracts were Quinton Jackson and Matt Lindland, both of which UFC has interest in. UFC has been trying to sign Lindland for a few months, and the hold-up had been Lindland's inability to get out of his WFA contract.

Rampage coming to the UFC is good. Lindland I can do without.

That Dana and Xyience story is complete bullshit, btw. And Lindland back in UFC is pretty cool as he's become a better and different fighter since leaving. Rampage/Chuck or Rampage/Tito would be $$$$ for UFC.

I like that Herring is going probebly going to UFC now, he had signed a contract with the WFA right? So hopefully UFC picked him up to.

Tito vs. Rampage first, then against Chuck for the title.

I don't think that Chuck is going to lose to Tito. He's got a lotta mo'.

While I agree Fedor was clearly the winner of the fight, to say Cro Cop is Fedor's personal bitch is kinda arrogant. Fedor did not dominate Cro Cop.

Here are examples of making someone their personal bitch: GSP/Hughes 2, Silva/Franklin, Silva/Leben, Fedor/Coleman 2, Liddell/Babalu 2, and thats only over the last few months.

Tito Vs. Rampage will likely never go down... They are close friends and training partners.

For Rampage's 1st UFC fight, it should be his original fight for the WFA card, Marvin Eastman since it was Eastman who handed Rampage his 1st lost, and as a Rampage fan I would like to see him avenge it. But for the love of god don't make it a main event unless it's on free tv.
