MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Uno hasn't been submitted in over 8 years so that's a tall order for Aoki. In regards to my dislike of Rainbow Tights I'm aware that all he does is simply play to his strengths in regards to the pussified stand-up and guard-pulling but fuck it, I'm being fickle on this one.

Vera: Henderson, Silva and Sokoudjou turned down July 19 fight

Brandon Vera said Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou all turned down a July 19 fight with him, and after he turned declined a fight with Lyoto Machida, the UFC ultimately offered him UFC newcomer Reese Andy.

In a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), Vera confirmed that he turned down a UFC Fight Night 14 bout with Machida because he felt he needed more training time.

And though he wouldn't tell us which opponents turned down the fight with him, Vera finally spilled the beans to baltimoresun.com.

"They offered me Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Lyoto Machida and then Reese Andy," Vera told the website.

As for turning down the fight with Machida, Vera recently told MMAjunkie.com that it was a no-brainer. However, he didn't count out a future match-up with the famed Brazilian.

"For sure, I turned down the fight with Machida," Vera said. "Don't get me wrong. I'm down to fight Machida but not in my first time cutting down to 205 on four weeks' notice. I want to be ready for Machida. That bastard's good. I want to make sure I've got good sparring and a good game plan for Machida.

"Machida's not somebody you can just jump in the cage with and fight. I don't care who you are; if you think you can just beat Machida because you're tougher than him, he's probably going to whoop your ass. ... He doesn't go in to destroy people and finish them. Man, you can't hit him, and he just keeps touching you. People just get frustrated and pissed off. So, I did turn down the fight with Machida, but I'm down for sure to fight Machida, given good time."

Vera, who will compete at 205 pounds for the first time on Saturday, also told MMAjunkie.com that his move to a new weight class isn't necessarily permanent. He said he wants to return to the heavyweight class, especially for a rematch with Fabricio Werdum.

The two fighters met last month at UFC 85, and after Werdum rained down a series of unanswered blows, the fight was stopped with 20 seconds remaining in the first round. Vera claims it was a premature stoppage.

Via the junkie...

I dunno when the show was, but I just got done watching K-1 WGP in Taipei. So K-1 discussion time~!

Ruslan Karaev looked like a MONSTER in this tournament. I don't remember him being that big, but he looked gigantic. Just stacked with muscles. He seemed like Badr Hari before, but he's bulked up significantly now.

He mowed through all his tournament fights, and damn near killed Tomihira and Pitchkounov.

I was incredibly impressed with his showing. He could now be one of the dark horses of the tournament given how well he did here.

I know I've said it before, but I ADORE K-1's tournament format. It's so much fun to follow. Let alone that for my money, the WGP Finals every year is the best combat event of the year.

Damn that Baroni KO was pretty and even though it means dick Phil looked solid. Good takedown and control and nice combo's standing. Props also for showing restraint when that cunt in Jansen's corner headbutted him.

So... Shane Carwin Vs. Neil Wain, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou Vs. Luiz Cane, and Dan Hardy Vs. Akihiro Gono all have been announced for UFC 89, from the junkie.

Sokoudjou Vs. Cane should be good.

Karaev was impressive, but I don't think he answered any questions regarding his defense (or lack thereof) which is/was his most glaring weakness. We'll see how he does in the eliminations, but if his defense is the same as before, he better make sure he has a good neurologist.

K-1 MAX is where it's at. I'm so pumped for the final four with Masato, Souwer, Sato, and Artur. Best combat sports league in the world for the past few years running, hands down.

I've never really been able to see much Max, but what I have I liked.

For me, it's not so much the fighting in K-1 I like, although I do, but the drama. Everyone fights each other quite often. People have FEUDS~!. I can only imagine the hype K-1 would do if Ruslan and Hari ended up fighting again in the elimination GP or the GP itself. They have history to play off of. That's what I like. There's also the fact that it's so unlike Boxing or MMA. In K-1, if you win the GP...then for that year? You *ARE* the best in the world. K-1's the only Kickboxing league that truly matters, and whoever wins, is the greatest. You don't get that in the other sports.

But now that you mention it, Karaev didn't exactly get hit much in the GP. Maybe that's his new strategy. He bulked up, and retained his speed with the goal of overwhelming the opponent with power and speed so they can't retaliate? Seemed to work here. Simple punches were rocking everyone, let alone the massive power shot combos he was throwing. High Kick > Spinning Back Kick > Left Hook > Left Hook = Other dude grabs onto Ruslan for DEAR LIFE.

Good way to put your career on hold.

Seriously, what the fuck was Rampage thinking? He hit and ran...and then led the police on a CHASE?

Not only is it bad for him, but I can see people turning this around and saying that MMA fighters are "criminals" and all that. He was just LHW champion after all.

Fuck. That's definitely him. His face was plastered on the truck he was fleeing from police with. Jesus how dumb can you be?

I honestly don't know what the fuck UFC should do here.

From a business perspective it'd be a horrible idea to release Rampage. But from a public relations standpoint, how do you not? Dana's on record about "thugs" like Kimbo, and now one of his stars just got ARRESTED with GUNS pulled on him.

If UFC does nothing, or just slaps Rampage's wrist this could be a huge issue with the media. The media doesn't exactly look on MMA fighters with shining light. Rampage just proved them right. A star MMA fighter, who was just a champion of the world a few days ago hit people, ran from the scene of the crime, and led police on a chase.

I don't think in any case UFC will touch him booking wise until this is settled, whatever the end result is. He regardless of the charges, Rampage won't be fighting for quite some time, be it in UFC or elsewhere.

He broke his promise of never taking nine months off again. :(

"There were several collisions involved,” Lt. Dondero stated as he revealed the details of Jackson’s arrest to Five Ounces of Pain. “The first two occurred on the 55 freeway. The highway patrol was investigating those. Mr. Jackson fled from those and was first observer by a Costa Mesa motor officer driving with one flat tire while talking on a cell phone and weaving in and out of traffic. He tried to make a stop with lights and siren and Mr. Jackson ignored that and continued South on Newport Boulevard. weaving in and out of traffic and at one point crossing over to the Northbound side. At one point he was on the sidewalk and got into another collision at 17th Street and Newport Boulevard. He continued Southbound into Newport Beach running red lights and finally he came to a stop on the Balboa Peninsula and was taken into custody.”

I mean, WTF?

Anyone from the hood knows that he can't get pulled off like that... He'll get caught for driving while black! (Joking of course)

Anyway, I think people are kinda overreacting the issue... It's not like he raped, murdered, or physically assulted someone. Dana White gives people like War Machine, who assults citizens at nightclubs. And former gang members who continue to break the law in Rob Emerson. But Rampage doesn't get a chance because of a hit and run? Bullshit.

I do see some racial undertones in this.

I do see some racial undertones in this.

Here's the difference. Here's the BIG differences.

Those guys are no ones. They get paid nothing to fight in UFC. No one knows who the fuck they are. I don't know why Dana employs them. They are not good fighters. That's Dana's business.

Rampage is paid at least HALF A MILLION per fight. He was the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion. He is the one who dethroned Chuck Liddell. People *KNOW* Rampage. He's been on bunch of talk shows. He's done PR for UFC. He's been one of the faces of the UFC for a year now.

Rampage at the MIDDLE OF THE DAY, acted completely insane and hit multiple targets while completely ignoring the police. Not to mention the possibility that he could have *KILLED SOMEONE* since at one point he was driving on the goddamn sidewalk. And apparently he was NOT inebriated which is completely mind boggling.

This will likely be a media circus. The media is going to pick up on this at some point, and likely have a field day with the "CHAMPION CAGE FIGHTER GOES INSANE" tag lines. Rampage has *THREE* felony counts against him. You cannot just brush this off like it's nothing.

Regardless of what UFC does, I sincerely doubt Rampage fights another fight for the rest of this year. He could get his license suspended for this, regardless of what UFC does or doesn't do.

He fucked up *BAD*.

“According to Lt. Paul Dondero of the Costa Mesa Police Department, there were no indications of drug or alcohol use by Rampage Jackson at the time of his arrest. Despite the wild nature of his destructive actions, the Costa Mesa police do not believe intoxication by any narcotic or alcohol was a contributing factor.”

Again, WTF?

And EHME, racial undertones, seriously?

People get in fights at nightclubs all the fucking time. How often do people hit three cars, evade police and drive the wrong way down the road on the middle of a friggin sidewalk while completely sober? It's a big deal if it's whitest of all the white men Matt Hughes even.

Dude he fought was 3-2 going into the fight, only been fighting about a year. Phil won't ever evolve as a fighter, if he can't knock people out quick then he's getting beat. He'll get his .500 record back soon

Jackson more than likely will be serving jail time in this situation, and more than likely I could see UFC letting him go due to all of the bad (in fact, horrible) pub this is going to get on the sport. There's really no positive way to spin this nonsense that happened today with Rampage.

I'm sure other companies will pick him up at some point, but still, there will probably be alot of resentment towards him in the MMA world in general long term here and the UFC is going to get such an unfair rap from this.

I'm just throwing this out there, but did the guns have all their bullets?

That's why I'd try to run from the police.

Okay, Mr. Internet Male.

I can't believe this guy was as big a doof as to think he could effectively disappear and leave the trail cold when his picture was five feet high on the side of his truck. You can't even get that kind of comedy in Grand Theft Auto, although you should.

Well it's being reported that he was declared mentally unfit for booking so hopefully there's some explanation that makes a tiny bit of sense.

In real MMA news, and it's great news... WEC signed Jake Rosholt and Jonny Hendricks... two of the best prospects in all of the MMA world so hell yeah. Hopefully they can get one or both of them onto Filho/Sonnen II.

Oh, apparently there is now no such thing as WEC: Filho/Sonnen 2 because that's no longer the main event of the September 10th card.... it's now a Urijah title defense against Mike Brown with Filho/Sonnen still on the card.

WEC rules lately.

Jesus fucking Christ Rampage. That's up there with one of the dumber stunts a fighter has pulled off.

From a fighters standpoint UFC needs to keep him around. He's popular with the fans, draws well and has lots of interesting match-ups in front of him. Plus if he WAS released he'd be a huge coup for EliteXC or Affliction.

From a business standpoint it's suicide to keep him around. This is the mother of all fuck-ups and a PR nightmare that's only going to give anti-MMA critics more ammunition.

Very interested to see how this plays out. I can see UFC benching him for a long time or maybe just making him wait out the entire length of his contact without actually fighting.

He'll make his return 2 years from now, have a great "overcoming your demons" bullshit story out of it or something to that effect and his first fight again will pop a HUGE buyrate, ESPN will go back to slurping him... but even more now as a great inspirational story out of this.

Or Rampage just kills himself.

I don't know, the possibilities are endless.
